Frequently Asked Questions - WH46DBH100EW SAMSUNG

How to properly install the Samsung WH46DBH100EW Laundry Hub?
Installation: Unpack the appliance, remove the shipping bolts, adjust the leveling feet to make it level. Connect the water hoses (new) to the hot/cold faucets, attach the drain hose (height 46-245 cm). For the dryer, install a rigid 4-inch (10.2 cm) exhaust duct, and for gas models, connect the gas supply. Plug each appliance into a dedicated circuit.
What cycles are available and how to select them?
Use the multi-control panel to select a wash or dry cycle. The cycles include Normal, Delicate, Quick, Wrinkle-free, etc. Turn the navigation dial to choose, then adjust options (temperature, spin speed, soil level). Refer to the cycle chart pages 61-64 for details.
How to use the detergent drawer?
The detergent drawer has compartments for detergent (liquid or powder), fabric softener, and bleach. For liquid detergent, use the compartment with the dosing separator. Remember to remove the liquid detergent compartment if using powder. Close the drawer securely before starting a cycle.
What do the error codes on the display mean?
Error codes like CLg (clogged duct) or 5E (drainage problem) are described in the manual. For example, CLg indicates to clean the lint filter and check the ventilation system. Refer to the Troubleshooting section pages 84-93 for meanings and solutions.
How to clean the lint filter?
Clean the lint filter before or after each use. Open the dryer door, remove the filter (located at the bottom of the opening), remove lint by hand or with a vacuum, then reinsert it. A clogged filter reduces drying efficiency and increases fire risk.
Can I use dryer sheets?
Yes, dryer sheets are compatible and recommended to improve drying performance and reduce static electricity. Place a sheet directly in the drum with the laundry before starting the drying cycle.
How to perform the Air Blow Test?
Make sure the drum is empty and cool. Press Dryer, then Options, turn the dial to select Air Blow Test, then press OK. The test lasts 2 minutes. If there is a problem, a code appears; follow the instructions in the Air Blow Test section page 44.
How to prevent the appliance from freezing in winter?
Install the Laundry Hub in a location where the temperature does not drop below 0 °C. If the drain hose freezes, wrap it in a towel soaked in warm water for 10 minutes. After use, make sure no water remains in the hose. Close the water supply valves if the appliance is not used for a long time.
What is the warranty for this Laundry Hub?
The Samsung limited warranty covers 1 year parts and labor, and 20 years for the washing motor (parts only). It applies to the original purchaser with proof of purchase. For details, refer to pages 98-102 of the manual.
How to connect the appliance to SmartThings?
Download the SmartThings app on your smartphone. Turn on the appliance, open the app and follow the setup instructions. You can then monitor and control your Laundry Hub remotely, receive notifications, and access advanced features.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTION

WARNING

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons when using your appliance, follow basic precautions, including the following:

For washer

  1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  2. Do not wash or dry articles that have been previously cleaned in, washed in, soaked in, or spotted with gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, other flammable or explosive substances as they give off vapors that could ignite or explode.
  3. Do not allow children to play on or in the appliance. Close supervision of children is necessary when the appliance is used near children.
  4. Before the appliance is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the washing or drying compartment.
  5. Do not reach into the appliance if the drum is moving.
  6. Do not install or store this appliance where it will be exposed to the weather.
  7. Do not tamper with controls.
  8. Do not repair or replace any part of the appliance or attempt any servicing unless specifically recommended in the user-maintenance instructions or in published user-repair instructions that you understand and have the skills to carry out.
  9. Do not add gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances to the wash water. These substances give off vapors that could ignite or explode.
  10. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for 2 weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period, before using a washer or combination washer-dryer, turn on all hot water faucets and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.

Installation

Flooring

For best performance, the Laundry Hub must be installed on a solid floor. Wood floors may need to be reinforced to minimise vibration and/or unbalanced loads. Carpeting and soft tile surfaces do not resist vibration well and may cause the Laundry Hub to move slightly during the spin cycle.

SAMSUNG WH46DBH100EW - Flooring - 1

CAUTION

Do NOT install the Laundry Hub on a platform or a poorly supported structure.

Water temperature

Do not install the Laundry Hub in areas where water may freeze as the Laundry Hub always retains some water in its water valves, pumps, and/or hoses. Frozen water left in the connection parts may cause damage to belts, the pump, and other components of the Laundry Hub.

Washer requirements

Electrical supply and grounding

- Use an individual branch circuit specific to the Laundry Hub.

To ensure proper grounding, the Laundry Hub comes with a power cord featuring a three-prong grounding plug for use in a properly installed and grounded outlet.

Water supply

A proper water pressure for this Laundry Hub is between 20-116 psi (137-800 kPa). Water pressure less than 20 psi (137 kPa) may cause the water valve to not close completely, or it may take longer to fill the drum, causing the Laundry Hub to turn off. Water taps must be within 4 ft. (122 cm) from the rear of the Laundry Hub so that the provided inlet hoses reach the Laundry Hub.

To reduce the risk of leaks:

  • Make sure water taps are easily accessible.
  • Turn off the taps when the Laundry Hub is not in use.
  • Check for any leaks at the water inlet hose fittings on a regular basis.

- To connect the ground wire to the neutral position without through contact A (cabinet ground), contact a technician. This is not user serviceable. - Ring-type terminals are recommended. If using strap terminals, make sure they are tightened.

  1. Loosen or remove the screws from the center terminal block.

  2. Connect the neutral wire (white or center wire) and ground wire (white) to the center screw of the terminal block. Tighten the screw.

  3. Connect the other wires to the outer terminal block screws. Tighten the screws.

  4. Tighten the strain relief screws.

  5. Insert the tab of the terminal block cover into the rear slot of the dryer. Secure the cover with a hold-down screw.

CAUTION

Connect the power cord and check L1/L2/D (N) voltage. If the voltage is low, it may not heat properly. Review the "Electrical requirements" section on page 30 if needed.

WARNING

- All U.S. models are designed for a 3-wire system connection. The dryer frame is grounded to the neutral conductor at the terminal block. A 4-wire system connection is required for new or remodeled construction, mobile homes, or if local codes do not permit grounding through neutral. If you use the 4-wire system, you cannot ground the dryer frame to the neutral conductor at the terminal block.

- Remove the terminal block cover plate. Insert the power cord with a UL-listed strain relief through the hole provided in the cabinet near the terminal block.

- A strain relief must be used. Do not loosen the nuts already installed on the terminal block. Be sure they are tight. Use a^3/s'' (1 cm) deep well socket.

- Since january 1, 1996, the national electric code requires that new wiring (not existing) utilize a 4-wire connection to this dryer.

Installation

STEP 11 Power on

Plug the power cord into a wall socket protected by a fuse or circuit breaker. Then, tap to turn on the Laundry Hub.

For gas models

Make sure all gas connections, the exhaust line, and all wiring is connected correctly. Then, plug the power cord into a power source and check the dryer's installation and operation using the final checklist in Step 12.

STEP 12 Final Check

When installation is complete, confirm that:

  • The Laundry Hub is plugged into an electrical outlet and grounded properly.
  • The exhaust ductwork is connected, and the joints are taped.
  • You have used rigid or stiff-walled flexible metal duct material, not plastic flexible duct.
  • The Laundry Hub is level and is sitting firmly on the floor.
  • The dryer starts, runs, heats, and shuts off properly.
  • The gas is supplied properly with no leaks (For gas models only).

CAUTION

The burner may not ignite initially due to air in the gas line. Allowing your dryer to operate on a heat setting will purge the line. If the gas does not ignite within 5 minutes, turn the dryer off and wait 5 minutes. Be sure the gas supply to the dryer has been turned on. To confirm gas ignition, check the exhaust for heat.

English42

Vent Blockage Test

After the Laundry Hub is installed, run the Vent Blockage Test function to check if the duct system is properly installed. Vent Blockage Test automatically detects the status of the ducts and reports any blockage or problems. Proper ducting can reduce drying time and save energy.

NOTE

The Vent Blockage Test function must run when the dryer is cool. If the dryer warms up after the installation check, run the Air Fluff cycle for several minutes to reduce its internal temperature.

Running the Vent Blockage Test

  1. Make sure the drum is empty, and then close the door. (If there are any clothes or other items in the drum, the test will not give accurate results.)
  2. Tap ⏻ to turn on the Laundry Hub.
  3. Tap DRYER, and then tap Options.
  4. Turn the Navigation dial to select Vent Blockage Test, and then tap OK. Vent Blockage Test starts immediately.
  5. The test takes about 2 minutes and "Testing" is displayed during the test.

CAUTION

Do not open the door during the test.

NOTE

If you have started other procedures before running Vent Blockage Test, the dryer will not enter the Vent Blockage Test mode.

  1. After 2 minutes, when the test is complete, the results are displayed and the dryer sounds a tone. If status of the duct system is normal, an alarm triggers with the "No problems detected" message. If the duct system cannot exhaust properly, the check code appears, and the dryer sounds an alarm tone. For description about the code, see the "Information codes" section on page 89.

If there are any other problems, an information code appears on the display. For description about the code, see the "Information codes" section on page 89.

- To stop or cancel Vent Blockage Test, tap ⏻ to turn off the dryer.

- The results remain on the display for about 5 minutes and then automatically turn off. You can turn the results off immediately by tapping

NOTE

  • During or after the test, the internal drum is hot. Use caution to prevent burns. The Vent Blockage Test function is used to check for problems in the current duct system when the dryer is installed for the first time.
  • If the test result displays check code (the duct system is blocked), refer to the "Ducting requirements" section on page 27 and the "Exhaust ducting guide" section, and then take proper measures to correct any problems. If the test is suspended, it could result in incorrect results. Follow the proper procedures when testing the dryer.
  • Even if the test result is normal ("No problems detected"), the duct system could be blocked slightly. Properly install all duct work according to the installation instructions in this manual.

Laundry guidelines

STEP 1 Sort

Sort the laundry according to these criteria:

  • Care Label: Sort the laundry into cottons, mixed fibers, synthetics, silks, wools, and rayon.
    • Color: Separate whites from colors.
  • Size: Mixing different sized items together in the drum improves the washing performance.
  • Sensitivity: Wash delicate items separately. For pure, new woolen items, curtains, and silk items, check the labels on the items.

NOTE

Make sure to check the care label on the clothing, and sort them accordingly before starting the wash.

STEP 2 Empty pockets

Empty all the pockets of your laundry items

- Metallic objects such as coins, pins, and buckles on clothing may damage other laundry items as well as the drum.

Turn clothing with buttons and embroideries inside out

  • If pants or jacket zippers are open while washing, the drum may be damaged. Zippers should be closed and fixed with a string.
  • Clothing with long strings may become entangled with other clothes. Make sure to tie the strings before starting the wash.

Before you start

STEP 3 Use a laundry net

  • Brassieres (machine washable) must be placed in a laundry net. Metal parts of the brassieres may break through and tear other laundry items.
  • Small, light clothing such as socks, gloves, stockings, and handkerchiefs may become caught around the door. Place them inside a fine laundry net.
  • Do not wash the laundry net by itself without other laundry. This may cause abnormal vibrations that could move the Laundry Hub and result in injury.

STEP 4 Determine the load capacity

Do not overload the washer. Overloading may cause the washer to not wash properly.

NOTE

When washing bedding or bedding covers, the wash time may be lengthened or the spin efficiency may be reduced. For bedding or bedding covers, the recommended maximum spin level is Level 2 or Level 3, and the load capacity is 7 lb (3.0 kg) or less.

CAUTION

  • Unbalanced laundry may reduce the spinning performance.
  • Make sure the laundry is fully inserted in the drum and not caught in the door.
  • Do not slam the door. Close the door gently. Otherwise, the door may not be closed properly.

STEP 5 Apply a proper detergent type

The type of detergent depends on the type of fabric (cotton, synthetic, delicate items, wool), color, wash temperature, and degree of soiling. Make sure to use the laundry detergent that is designed for automatic washing machines.

NOTE

  • Follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations based on the weight of the laundry, the degree of soiling, and the hardness of the water in your local area. If you are not sure about the water hardness, contact a local water authority.
  • Do not use detergent that tends to be hardened or solidified. This detergent may remain after the rinse cycle, blocking the drain outlet.

CAUTION

When washing wool using the Wool cycle, use a detergent dedicated to wool items. If used with the Wool cycle, powder detergent may remain on the laundry and discolor the laundry.

English46-

Use HE detergent only

SAMSUNG WH46DBH100EW - Use HE detergent only - 1

For the best cleaning results, use a high efficiency detergent such as Tide HE, Wisk HE, Cheer HE or Gain HE*. High efficiency detergents contain suds suppressors that reduce or eliminate suds. When fewer suds are produced, the load tumbles more efficiently and cleaning is maximized. (* Brand names are trademarks of their respective manufacturers.)

WARNING

For best results, use HE detergents only. Do not use non-HE detergent, organic detergent, natural detergent or HE detergents with natural ingredients (such as vinegar, baking soda).

Before you start

Drying guidelines

STEP 1 Sort

  • Do not mix heavy and lightweight items together.
  • Wash and dry dark-colored items separately from light-colored items.
  • Unless recommended on the care label, do not dry woolens or fiberglass items.
  • Do not dry items soiled with oil, alcohol, gasoline, etc.
  • Avoid drying unwashed items.
  • Do not dry wet items that have not been fully spin-dried after washing. This could cause an odor inside the dryer or cause the dryer to malfunction.
  • Using a laundry net is recommended for baby socks and other small, light items.

STEP 2 Empty pockets and turn them inside out

  • Turn dark-colored clothes inside out before drying them. This will prevent fabric damage due to friction during the drying process and protect internal parts of the dryer from discoloration and damage.
  • Turn the items with buttons or embroideries inside out before drying them.

CAUTION

  • Empty the pockets. Metallic objects such as coins, pins, and buckles on clothing may damage other laundry items as well as the drum.
  • Remove any metallic objects attached to items, pull up zippers, and latch hooks before drying. Metallic objects attached to items may damage other items as well as the drum.

STEP 3 Check the lint filter

Ensure that the lint filter is installed correctly before putting items in the dryer.

- Always clean the lint filter before drying. For more information on filter cleaning, see the "Lint filter" section on page 80.

STEP 4 Determine the load capacity

Do not overload the dryer. Overloading reduces the tumbling action, resulting in uneven drying and wrinkling.

  • Put one wash load in the dryer at a time.
  • To improve drying efficiency for one or two items, add a dry towel to the load.
  • For best results, untangle items before inserting them into the dryer. Tangled items may degrade the drying efficiency or cause the door to open.

CAUTION

Add or remove items into or from the dryer with the lint filter installed. If the filter is not in place, small items can fall into the filter slot and cause the dryer to malfunction.

Problem Action
The door does not open.Tap ▷stop the washer. It may take a few moments for the door lock mechanism to disengage. The door will not open until 3 minutes after the washer has stopped or the power has been turned off.Make sure all the water in the drum is drained. The door may not open if water remains in the drum. Drain the drum and open the door manually.Make sure the door lock light is off. The door lock light turns off after the washer has drained.
Excessive suds.Make sure you use the recommended types of detergent as appropriate.Use high efficiency (HE) detergent to prevent oversuding.Reduce the detergent amount for soft water, small loads, or lightly soiled loads.Non-HE detergent is not recommended.
Cannot add additional detergent.Make sure the remaining amount of detergent and fabric softener is not over the limit.
Stops.Plug the power cord into a live electrical outlet.Check the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.Close the door, and touch and hold ▷start the washer. For your safety, the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is closed. Before the washer starts to fill, it will make a series of clicking noises to check the door lock and will do quick drain. There may be a pause or soak period in the cycle. Wait briefly, and the washer may start.Make sure the mesh filter of the water supply hose at the water taps is not clogged. Periodically clean the mesh filter. If the washer is not supplied with sufficient power, the washer will temporarily not drain or spin. As soon as the washer regains sufficient power, it will operate normally.

Problem Action
Fills with the wrong water temperature.Fully open both taps.Make sure the temperature selection is correct.Make sure the hoses are connected to the correct taps. Flush water lines.Make sure the water heater is set to supply a minimum of 49 °C hot water at the tap. Also, check the water heater capacity and recovery rate.Disconnect the hoses and clean the mesh filter. The mesh filter may be clogged. While the washer fills, the water temperature may change as the automatic temperature control feature checks the incoming water temperature. This is normal. While the washer fills, you may notice just hot and/or just cold water going through the dispenser when cold or warm temperatures are selected. This is a normal function of the automatic temperature control feature as the washer determines the water temperature.
Load is wet at the end of a cycle.Use the High or Extra High spin speed.Use high efficiency (HE) detergent to reduce oversudsing. The load is too small. Small loads (one or two items) may become unbalanced and not spin completely.Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or clogged.
Leaks water.Make sure the door is properly closed.Make sure all hose connections are tight.Make sure the end of the drain hose is correctly inserted and secured to the drain system.Avoid overloading.Use high efficiency (HE) detergent to prevent oversudsing.Check the drain hose.-Make sure the end of the drain hose is not placed on the floor.-Make sure the drain hose is not clogged.
Has odors.Excessive suds collect in recesses and can cause foul odors.Run cleansing cycles to sanitise periodically.Clean the door seal (diaphragm).Dry the washer interior after a cycle has finished.
A message appears on the display to alert that the dispenser is open.Check if the detergent drawer is closed properly.- Open the detergent drawer and close it again. Make sure it's closed properly.

Troubleshooting

Problem Action
The "Refill detergent(s)" message does not disappear after refilling the detergent/softener.After refilling the auto detergent/softener dispensers, close the detergent drawer, and then touch and holdThen, the Laundry Hub will start to detect the detergent/softener, and the message will disappear.Depending on the type of detergent/softener, the message may not disappear immediately.
Detergent/softener is not dispensed.Check if the Amount option for Dispenser1 or Dispenser2 is set to Off. The automatic dispensers do not dispense the detergent if the option is set to Off.Tap Options, select Dispenser1 or Dispenser2, and then change the Amount option. The automatic dispensers are disabled in the Delicates, Outdoor, Activewear or Wool cycles. To dispense detergent in those cycles, tap Options, select Dispenser1 or Dispenser2, and then change the Amount option.
An excessive or insufficient amount of detergent is dispensed.Check the Amount option for Dispenser1 or Dispenser2. Tap Options, select Dispenser1 or Dispenser2, and then change the Amount option.
The dryer does not warm up.Check your home's circuit breakers or fuses. Some cycles do not require heat. Check the selected cycle again. For a gas dryer, make sure the gas supply is on.Clean the lint filter and exhaust duct. The dryer may have moved into the cool-down phase of the cycle.Turn off the Eco Dry option for the Normal or Time Dry cycles. When the Eco Dry option is on, the dryer performs an air dry process in the beginning of the cycle to reduce energy consumption. The air dry process does not use heated air, so you may feel that the dryer is not being heated, but this is normal.

English86

Problem Action
Items are not dried.Check all of the above. Additionally:Make sure the exhaust hood outside your home can open and close freely.Check the exhaust system for lint buildup. Ducting should be inspected and cleaned annually.Use a 4" rigid metal exhaust duct.Do not overload. 1 wash load = 1 dryer load.Dry heavy items and light weight items separately.Large, bulky items, such as blankets or comforters, may require repositioning to ensure even drying.Make sure that your washer is draining properly and extracting adequate water from the load. The load may be too small to tumble properly. Add a few towels and restart the dryer. The load may be too large to tumble properly. Remove some items and restart the dryer.Clean the lint filter.
Items are not dried evenly.Seams, pockets, and other parts of clothing are harder to dry than others. This is normal.Sort heavy and light items separately.
The dryer is too loud.Look for coins, loose buttons, nails, and other objects and remove them immediately.Check the lint filter. Remove any items stuck inside the lint filter.Make sure the dryer is level and standing firmly on the floor. The dryer may hum due to air moving through the drum and fan. This is normal. It is normal to hear the dryer gas valve or heating element cycle on and off during the drying cycle.
There is a smell coming from the dryer. The smell of paint, varnish, cleaning agents, and other household items could have circulated in the air and entered the dryer. If you notice such a smell, ventilate completely before using the dryer. If drying in an enclosed area, the dryer could cause the ambient temperature to rise. Accordingly, make sure to open a window and ventilate the area.Do not attempt to dry wet items after leaving them in the washer or dryer for a long time.
The dryer turns off before the items are dry.The load is too small. Throw in a few additional items like towels and try drying again.

Troubleshooting

Problem Action
The clothes have lint on them.·Always make sure the lint filter is clean before putting items into the dryer. When drying items that generate a large amount of lint, you may need to clean the lint filter in the middle of a cycle.·Some fabrics (such as white towels) causes more lint and should be dried separately from fabrics that lint attaches easily (such as black linen pants).·Check the inside of the pockets to make sure they are empty before drying.
Water is not draining.·Check the draining hose for twists and kinks. Straighten out the hose if it is twisted or kinked and securely connect it to the drain on the floor.·Check to see if the draining hose is frozen. If the hose is frozen, submerge it in warm water to allow the water inside the hose to melt and drain out. Reconnect the hose and check for proper draining.
Items still wrinkled after Wrinkle Prevent (Wrinkle Away, Wrinkle Release).·Small loads of 1 to 4 items work best.·Load fewer items. Load similar-type items.·Take out the items immediately after drying is complete.
Water drips from the nozzle when the Steam cycles starts.·This is steam condensation. The dripping water will stop after a short time.
Sprayed water is not visible during Steam cycles.·Sprayed water is difficult to see when the door is closed.
Extended time.·Sensor Dry automatically senses the moisture in the load and shuts the dryer off when the selected dryness level is reached. The drying time can change according to the type and amount of laundry. See the cycle chart for reference.

If the problem continues, contact a service center. The number of the service center is on the label attached to the product.
