Cartoon illustration of a character in a boat with a net, no text or symbols presentWhat a beautiful bay! But look, there's rubbish as far as the eye can see. Plastic bottles, cans, disposable cups ... We've got to clean it up! Sail out to sea with Captain Nature and help him fish the rubbish out of the water. The more rubbish you collect, the cleaner the water will be and more marine life will return.
Game components

4 Captain Nature masks 4 beach sections 1 bin 24 pieces of rubbish 4 elastic bands 4 buoys 12 small fish 4 lifebelts 1 boat 12 cards 12 sea animalsBefore you start playing
Carefully remove all the components from the perforated sheets. Assemble the boat, buoys and bin as shown. Attach an elastic band
to every Captain Nature mask by pulling it through the two holes on the sides and securing it with a knot. Adjust the length of the elastic band to ensure that the mask stays on your head properly.
Our tip: make the length of the elastic band slightly longer so that the mask isn't too tight. It will then fit a larger head as well.

Object of the game
You must all work together. One by one, you must sail out to sea with Captain Nature and try to fish the rubbish out of the water. If you manage to do so before
the beach is full of litter, you all win. But it's more difficult than it sounds as you can't see where you're sailing and will have to blindly steer the course.
Game preparation
Important! You will need a smooth playing area for the game so that you can slide the boat around easily.
Put a buoy in each corner to mark the boundary of theplaying area. The imaginary lines between the buoys should roughly make a square and should be roughly double the height of the game box. This is now your bay. Place all 24 pieces of rubbish and the 12 small fishes in the bay and mix them up throughly. Then spread them out evenly.
Fit the 4 beach sections with the clean side (pink border) together and place them next to the bay. Put the bin and boat next to them. Shuffle the cards and place them to the side as a draw pile. Each player now takes a card each and places it face up with the side showing the rubbish in front of them.
Now it's the turn of the 12 sea animals. The sea animals all have a white border on one side and a pink border on the other side. At the beginning of the game, place any 4 sea animals with the pink side face up and the other ones with the white side face up.
If you want to make the game easier, place more than 4 animals with the pink side face up when setting up the game. Place fewer than 4 to make it more difficult.
Every player then takes a lifebelt, lays it in front of them and puts on a Captain Nature mask. When it's not your turn, you can pull the mask up onto your forehead.

Starting setup for 4 peopleAhoy there! Let's start playing!
The person who most recently sailed on a real boat goes first! The players then take turns clockwise. When it's your turn, you slip into the role of Captain Nature and take the boat. Look at the card in front of you. It shows which pieces of rubbish you must collect with the boat. Work out the best route for the boat to take through the bay to collect as much rubbish as possible.
Place the boat wherever you wish at the edge of the playing area, i.e. with the bow on an imaginary line between any two buoys, and then pull the Captain Nature mask over your eyes.

If you then prefer to continue playing without a mask, you can simply close your eyes. But no cheating, otherwise it won't be fun!
Now blindly slide the boat through the bay. Very important: never lift the boat up while sliding it around and always move it with the bow at the front.
You must then sail the boat out of the bay at the end of your trip. It's up to you where you exit the bay. You can also sail out at the same spot where you sailed in. The other players can help you by letting you know when you have sailed past the imaginary line between two buoys and, therefore, left the bay.
You can now remove your mask, lift the boat up and check what you have collected.

Very important: and always- You have collected at least one small fish or another sea animal: too bad. All the fish, sea animals and pieces of rubbish have to be returned to the bay. To do so, put them in your hand, drop them into the bay from above and spread them out a little if necessary, ensuring that the pieces are not too close to each other.
- You have only collected rubbish: perfect! Place the corresponding pieces of rubbish onto your card. Give the other pieces of rubbish to your fellow players for them to place onto their own cards. If there are pieces of rubbish that don't correspond to any of the cards in front of the players, unfortunately you will have to spread them out in the bay again.
Check your card at the end of your turn:
- Are there pieces of rubbish missing on your card? Unfortunately, you will have to turn one of the four beach sections over onto its polluted side (yellow border).
- Is your card full and have you collected all the pieces of rubbish depicted on it? Take all the pieces of rubbish on your card and throw them into the bin. This will create less rubbish in the bay and sea animals will return. Then turn your full card over, take the sea animal that is depicted on it and place it anywhere in the bay.
If the sea animal has a pink border, you can also turn a polluted beach section back onto its clean side. If there are no polluted beach sections, then they stay as they are.
Other players whose cards are also full can now also redeem their cards in the same way – even if it's not their turn.
Players whose cards are full take a new card from the draw pile. If the draw pile is empty, you can't take any more cards. But when it's your turn again, you can still sail with the boat and help the other players fill their cards.
Lifebelt

You can let the other players help you once during the game – you choose when exactly. Before a turn, simply state that you want to use your lifebelt. Select someone to give you tips and guide you through the bay to help you sail the right course.
Our tip: having someone guide you is definitely helpful, but not as easy as it looks, especially with the directions 'to the right' and 'to the left'. Alternatively, the helper can also choose to give other directions, e.g. 'towards the window/door' or the like.
Once used, the lifebelt is removed from the game at the end of your turn. Needless to say, you can also play without lifebelts.
End of game
Have you collected all the pieces of rubbish out of the sea and are all 12 sea animals splashing about in the bay again? Fantastic! You have all won and helped make the sea a little cleaner again.
If the last beach section was turned over onto its polluted side, then you have all lost, unfortunately. No big deal – simply try again!
Did you know?
There are now numerous projects and initiatives all over the world focused on removing plastic waste from the seas in their own way.
Some even use boats that work very similarly to Captain Nature's boat. They sail out to many areas of the sea. Equipped with collection nets, they sail over the water and catch rubbish without harming fish or other sea animals.
