How to clean the grill plates?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool completely. Remove the plates and drip tray. They are dishwasher safe or can be hand washed with warm soapy water. Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners to avoid damaging the non-stick coating.

How to adjust the temperature?

Turn on the appliance with the On/Off switch. Press the TEMP button (the display blinks). Use the + and - buttons to set the desired temperature. The preheat starts automatically after 5 seconds.

What to do if smoke appears during first use?

This is normal: there may be slight smoke or odor during the first few minutes due to residual manufacturing oil. Make sure the plates and tray are clean. This will disappear after a few uses.

Can I use metal utensils on the plates?

No, to avoid damaging the non-stick coating, use silicone, heat-resistant rubber, or wooden utensils. Also avoid cutting food on the plates.

How to use the timer?

After placing the food, press the TIME button. The display blinks. Use the + and - buttons to set the cooking time. The appliance beeps at the end of the programmed time.

Does the grill heat on both sides?

Yes, the upper and lower plates heat to grill food on both sides simultaneously. It is recommended to keep the lid closed during cooking.

How to store the appliance to save space?

You can store the appliance on its side, as shown in the manual. Make sure it is completely cooled and clean before storing.

What if the digital display does not work?

Check that the appliance is plugged in and the On/Off switch is on. If the touch screen does not respond, gently clean it. If the problem persists, contact customer service at 1-800-947-3745.

Can I use the grill without the drip tray?

No, the drip tray must always be in place during cooking to collect juices. Do not use the grill without the tray or base.

POLARIZED PLUG

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

TAMPER-RESISTANT SCREW

Warning: This appliance is equipped with a tamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.

ELECTRICAL CORD

a) A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
b) Extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
c) If an extension cord is used:
1) The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
2) If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord; and
3) The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

This product is for household use only.

GETTING STARTED

• Remove all packing material, any stickers, and the plastic band around the power plug.
• Remove and save literature.
• Please visit www.prodprotect.com/georgeforeman to register your warranty.

BEFORE FIRST USE

1. Wash grill plates and drip tray in warm water and dish soap. Dry thoroughly.

Disclaimer: When using the grill for the first time, you may notice smoke or a slight odor during the first few minutes if there is still oil on the plates from the manufacturing process. This is normal.

Slide drip tray into base. The drip tray must always be in place during cooking.

Fit the grill plates onto the base by first inserting tabs at back of grill. Plates will click when correctly attached.

TO OPERATE

1. Plug the cord into a standard electrical outlet.

Push the power button on digital display to turn the unit on.

Keep the lid closed.

Push TEMP button.

Time/Temperature display will begin to flash.

Set temperature using temperature/time control buttons.

Note: Preheating starts automatically 5 seconds after the temperature is set.

Optional: Push START to begin preheat.

Digital display light will slowly pulse red.

When the digital display light turns green, the unit is ready.

Place food on grill plates and close cover.

Select TIME to set timer.

Set timer using temperature/time control buttons.

Unit will beep when time* has fully elapsed.

Remove food, press power button to turn off. Unplug unit when finished.

QUICK START

- Pressing the START button immediately after turning the grill on will automatically set the grill to a 425°F preheat.

FLOATING HINGE

- Hinge adjusts backwards and forwards, left and right to make full contact for uneven thicknesses and thicker cuts of meat.

Tips

- To avoid damaging the nonstick surface, do not use aerosol nonstick spray, sharp utensils or cut food on the cooking surface of the unit. Use silicone, heat-resistant rubber or wooden utensils.

Caution

• Because some countertop finishes are more affected by heat than others, use care not to place grill on surfaces where heat may cause a problem.
• Grill surface is hot during use.
• Do not use the grill without the drip tray or base.

The GRD6090B smokeless grill produces up to 85% less smoke than the George Foreman indoor/outdoor grill (RPGD3994) when grilling 1/4 lb. beef burgers (20% fat, 80% lean) with clean grill plates and drip trays.

COOKING GUIDE

The following chart is meant to be used as a guideline only. Cooking time will depend on the thickness of the food. To be sure your food is cooked, USDA recommends using a meat thermometer to test for doneness. Insert the meat thermometer into the thickest part of the meat until the temperature stabilizes.

Note: not properly cleaning the grill plates may result in increased smoke levels from residual oils left over from previous cooking cycles.

Increase the longevity of the exterior surface by wiping down/along the grain of the stainless steel with a wet paper towel.

MOJO CHICKEN SANDWICH WITH CARIBBEAN SLAW

Prep Time: 10 minutes + 30 minutes to marinate

Cook Time: 6 minutes Total Time: 46 minutes Servings: 6

Ingredients:

Mojo marinade:

^3/_4 cup orange juice

12 cup chopped sweet onion

1 tsp lime zest

14 cup lime juice

14 cup olive oil

14 cup soy sauce

2 tbsp minced garlic

2 tsp dried oregano

1-1/2 tsp ground cumin

1-1/2 tsp ground pepper

Caribbean Slaw:

1 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp orange juice

1 tsp grated orange zest

1 tbsp lime juice

Grated zest from 1 lime

1 medium shallot minced

2 tbsp minced cilantro

2 tsp chopped chipotle chilies in adobo

1 tsp minced garlic

Salt and pepper to taste

1 bag of coleslaw mix

1 red bell pepper sliced thin

1 cup pineapple chunks

6 chicken breasts, boneless, skinless

6 Kaiser rolls, sliced

Directions:

1. For Mojo marinade: In a blender combine all ingredients and puree. Makes 2 cups. Pour over chicken breasts in a gallon sized food storage bag. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.

2. For Caribbean slaw: In a blender combine the mayonnaise, orange juice, orange zest, lime juice, lime zest, shallot, cilantro, chilies, and garlic. Puree. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Makes about 1-1/2 cups. In a large bowl combine the cabbage, red pepper, and pineapple. Toss to mix. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mix and stir to coat. Refrigerate until ready to use.

3. Preheat grill. Place chicken breasts on the grill and cook until an internal temperature of 165F is reached, approximately 6 minutes depending on the thickness of the chicken breast.

4. Grill buns, cut side down for about 2 minutes or until toasted.

5. Build the sandwich: Place the grilled chicken on the bun, top with the slaw and cover with top of bun.
