Coffee Maker Dear Customer, Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions. Connection to the mains supply The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. (on one or both sides depending on the model) Important safety instructions ∙ In order to avoid hazards, and to comply with safety requirements, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix). ∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ∙ Removetheswing-outlter from the appliance and rinse it in clean water. ∙ Whenyouhavenished using the appliance, rinse the inside of the pot and wipe the outside with a damp cloth. unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age. ∙ The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. ∙ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation. ∙ Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as wellasanyattachmentttedshould be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance. ∙ During operation, the coffee maker must be placed on a level, non-slip surface, impervious to splashes and stains. ∙ Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to touch hot surfaces or to come into contact with any heat sources. ∙ To prevent the danger of hot water or steam being emitted, always switch off thecoffeemakerandallowsufcient time for the appliance to cool down before it is opened or any accessories or attachments are removed. ∙ Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. ∙ Always close the carafe with its drip- through lid. Do not leave the heat- retaining carafe unattended near where children may reach it. ∙ Remove the plug from the wall socket - in case of any malfunction, - during cleaning, - after each cycle of use. ∙ When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. ∙ Do not touch the plug with wet hands. ∙ Do not allow the power cord to hang free; the cord must be kept well away from hot parts of the appliance. ∙ No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with. Cable storage compartment There is a cable storage compartment at the rear of the appliance. Pull out the cord to the required length before use. Automatic switch-off To save energy, the appliance will switch itself off automatically after the brewing cycle is complete. Before using for the rst time Beforemakingcoffeeforthersttime, let the appliance go through two or threeltrationcyclesusingtheindicated maximum amount of cold water, but without using ground coffee. This should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and after descaling.14 104 x 142 mm General information ∙ Depending on the appliance model, the water container shows one or two measuringscalestofacilitatellingthe container with the correct amount of clean water. The left scale is used for regular-sized cups of approx.125 ml, while the right scale is used for smaller cups. Make sure that the indicated maximum amount of water is not exceeded. ∙ Caution: Do not attempt to open the lid while brewing is in progress: there is a danger of scalding. ∙ If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, allow the appliance to cool down for 5 minutes or so after each cycle. ∙ Important note:Whenllingthe appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the water outlet. Making coffee ∙ Fillingwithwater: Openthelidandllthecontainerwiththe required quantity of water. ∙ Insertingthepaperlter: Opentheswing-outlterandinserta size-4paperlter,rstfoldingdownthe perforatedsidesofthelter. ∙ Fillingwithgroundcoffee: For each regular-sized cup (125 ml), a measure of about 6 g (= 1½ - 2 teaspoons) ofmediumornelygroundcoffeewillbe required.Closetheswing-outlterandthe lid afterwards. ∙ Preparingthecarafe: Fit the drip-through lid onto the carafe, and close it so that the two arrow marks are facing each other. Place the carafe into the appliance. If correctly inserted, the lid will disable the drip-stop mechanism in the swing-outlterduringthebrewingcycle. ∙ Startingthebrewingcycle: Put the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the On/Off button to turn the coffee makeron.Theltrationcyclestartsandthe waterpassesthroughthelter.Shortlyafter completion of the brewing process, the appliance switches off automatically. ∙ Removingthecarafe: Wait until all the water has passed through thelterbeforethecarafeisremovedfrom the appliance. To pour the coffee, turn the lid counter- clockwise about half a turn so that the arrow on the lid is aligned with the pouring spout. After serving, turn the lid clockwise until the two arrows are facing each other. ∙ Switchingoffthecoffeemaker: Always remove the plug from the wall outlet once brewing is complete. ∙ Interruptingthebrewingcycle: The brewing cycle can be interrupted by pressing the On/Off button again. Heat-retaining carafe ∙ For technical reasons the screw-in lid does not close hermetically. Therefore always hold the carafe in an upright positionwhenlledwithcoffee. ∙ Keeping the coffee hot: A heat- conserving carafe accumulates heat energy. Therefore, the carafe should104 x 142 mm

preferablybelledtoitsmaximum capacity. If it is only partly lled, the temperature will not be held as efciently. If you rinse out the carafe with hot water before use, the coffee will be kept warm for a longer time. ∙ The interior of the heat-retaining carafe insert consists of high-quality double- walled glass with a vacuum in-between for better insulation. Any streaks or bubble marks inside the carafe looking like bubbles or scratches do not affect its functional use nor its heat-retaining ability. ∙ In case the glass is damaged for one or the other reason as mentioned below, there is a risk that the carafe implodes. This might happen quite some time after the carafe has actually been damaged. ∙ Therefore do not drink out of the carafe and do not put your hand into it. To prevent damage to the carafe: ∙ Avoid shocks and great differences in temperature. ∙ Do not use any metal or other hard objects (eg a metal spoon) to stir in the carafe. ∙ Do not use hard brushes or abrasive cleaning agents. ∙ Do not wipe the inside with a cloth. Dust particles may cut the glass (similar to a glass-cutter). ∙ Do not wash in a dishwasher. ∙ Do not use in a microwave oven. Descaling ∙ Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to warrant proper functioning. ∙ Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufcient descaling. ∙ A lengthening of the brewing time, residual water remaining in the container or increased noise during brewing indicate that descaling of the coffee maker has become necessary. ∙ An excessive build-up of lime deposits isverydifculttoremove,evenwhen strong descaling agents are used. It may also cause the brewing system to leak. We therefore strongly recommend descaling the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles: ∙ For descaling, a vinegar solution may be used. ∙ Mix 80 ml of vinegar essence with the indicated maximum amount of cold water. ∙ Pour the descaling solution into the watercontainer,insertapaperlter intothelterholderwithout adding any ground coffee as described in section Making coffee, and let the appliancerunthroughoneltration cycle. Repeat the procedure if necessary. During descaling, ensure sufcientventilationanddonotinhale any vinegar vapours.16 104 x 142 mm ∙ To clean the appliance after descaling, letitrunthrough2-3ltrationcycles using clean water only. ∙ Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks. Cleaning and care ∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it. The appliance may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild detergent. Wipe dry afterwards. ∙ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions. ∙ To remove the used ground coffee, swingopentheswing-outlterand take it out. The coffee grounds can be composted. ∙ Rinsetheswing-outlterincleanwater. ∙ Finally,replacetheswing-outlterand swing it shut. ∙ Do not dismantle the carafe, do not wash in a dishwasher and do not immerse it in water. ∙ Rinse the inside of the carafe with water and wipe the outside with a clean damp cloth after use. ∙ To remove coffee deposits from the insideofthecarafe,llitwithhotwater and add a teaspoon of dishwasher detergent. Close the screw-in lid and leave the carafe for some hours. Rinse out thoroughly with water afterwards. ∙ The drip-through lid may be cleaned with hot soapy water; rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterwards. Disposal Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled.
