entering Regulator/Valve.
3. Check end of cylinder attachment for dirt and debris. Clean out if necessary.
4. Insert threaded end of Propane Cylinder into
Regulator/Valve and hand-tighten turning cylinder clockwise as shown below. DO NOT USE TOOLS! Over tightening can damage threads on Regulator/ Valve.
5. Perform a leak test.
Propane Cylinder Removal:
1. Turn regulator OFF.
2. Allow Grill to cool.
3. Remove the propane cylinder by turning counter-
clockwise until disengaged from the Regulator/Valve.
4. Install cap on cylinder. Cap should be kept on cylinder when not in use to prevent
dirt and debris from entering Regulator/Valve. For Use With 20lb LP Cylinder Leak Testing (1lb. Disposable)
- During leak test, keep grill away from open flames or sparks and do not smoke. Grill must be leak tested out doors in a well ventilated area.
- Leak test must be repeated each time gas cylinder is replaced or after storage. Materials needed include clean paint brush and 50/50 soap and water solution. Use mild soap and water. Do not use household cleaning agents. Damage to components can result.
1. Be sure control knob on regulator is in “OFF” position.
2. Brush soapy solution onto connection between gas cylinder and regulator at (A).
If growing bubbles appear, there is a leak. Retighten connection and repeat steps 1 and 2. If you can not stop a leak, remove gas cylinder from regulator and check for damaged threads, dirt and debris on regulator and gas cylinder. Also check to see if anything is obstructing flow of gas at regulator and gas cylinder openings. Remove any obstruction that may be found and repeat leak test. If threads are damaged on either regulator or gas cylinder, replace. Order new parts by giving the serial, model number and name of items needed to the Grill Service Center at 1-800-232-3398.
- Do not lean over grill while lighting.
1. To ignite, push and turn burner knob control knob slowly (2 to 3 seconds) to .
You should hear the ignitor click.
2. If ignition does NOT occur in 5 seconds, turn the burner control to , wait 5
minutes and repeat lighting procedure.
3. If ignitor does not work, follow match lighting instructions.
- Do not lean over grill while lighting.
1. Place match into match holder (hanging from side of grill). Light match; then
light burner by placing match with match holder through the gap under griddle. Push and turn burner knob control knob slowly (2 to 3 seconds) to . Be sure burner lights and stays lit. If ignition does NOT occur in 5 seconds, turn the burner controls off, wait 5 minutes and repeat the lighting procedure. If the burner does not ignite with the valve open, gas will continue to flow out of the burner and could accidently ignite with risk of injury. CAUTION Burner Flame Check
- Remove griddle. Light burners, rotate knobs from HIGH to LOW. You should see a smaller flame in LOW position than seen on HIGH. Perform burner flame check on side burner, also. Always check flame prior to each use. If only low flame is seen refer to “Sudden drop or low flame” in the Troubleshooting Section. Turning Grill Off
- Turn all knobs to the off position. Valve Check
- Important: Knobs lock in off position. To check valves, first push in knobs and release, knobs should spring back. If knobs do not spring back, replace valve assembly before using grill. Turn knobs to LOW position then turn back to off position. Valves should turn smoothly. Hose Check
- Before each use, check to see if hoses are cut or worn or kinked. Replace damaged hoses before using grill. Use only valve/hose/regulator specified by manufacturer. Storing Your Grill
- Allow grill to cool completely.
- Remove Propane cylinder and install protective cap over outlet threads.
- Store in dry location.
- Cover grill if stored outdoors. Choose from a variety of grill covers offered by Char-Broil at charbroil.com.

General Grill Cleaning
- Do not mistake brown or black accumulation of grease and smoke for paint. Interiors of gas grills are not painted at the factory (and should never be painted). Apply a strong solution of detergent and water or use a grill cleaner with scrub brush on insides of grill lid and bottom. Rinse and allow to completely air dry. Do not apply a caustic grill/oven cleaner to painted surfaces.
- Plastic parts: Wash with warm soapy water and wipe dry.
- Do not use citrisol, abrasive cleaners, degreasers or a concentrated grill cleaner on plastic parts. Damage to and failure of parts can result.
- Porcelain surfaces: Because of glass-like composition, most residue can be wiped away with baking soda/water solution or specially formulated cleaner. Use nonabrasive scouring powder for stubborn stains.
- Painted surfaces: Wash with mild detergent or nonabrasive cleaner and warm soapy water. Wipe dry with a soft nonabrasive cloth.
- Stainless steel surfaces: To maintain your grill’s high quality appearance, wash with mild detergent and warm soapy water and wipe dry with a soft cloth after each use. Baked-on grease deposits may require the use of an abrasive plastic cleaning pad. Use only in direction of brushed finish to avoid damage. Do not use abrasive pad on areas with graphics.
- Cooking surfaces: If a bristle brush is used to clean any of the grill cooking surfaces, ensure no loose bristles remain on cooking surfaces prior to grilling. It is NOT recommended to clean cooking surfaces while grill is hot. SPIDER ALERT! If your grill is getting hard to light or the flame is weak, check and clean the venturis and burners. Spiders or small insects are known to create “flashback” problems by building nests and laying eggs in the grill’s venturi or burner, obstructing the flow of gas. The back-up gas can ignite behind the control panel. This flashback can damage your grill and cause injury. To prevent flashbacks and ensure good performance the burner and venturi tube assembly should be removed and cleaned when ever the grill has been idle for an extended period of time.
- Before using your griddle, wash it thoroughly with a mild dishwashing liquid to remove the protective coating applied for shipping. Rinse with hot water and dry completely with a soft cloth or paper towel. NEVER ALLOW TO DRAIN DRY. Now season the griddle to prevent rust and sticking.
- A cooking oil with a high smoke point (such as avocado, olive, or canola oil) is recommended for the initial seasoning. Spread a thin coating of oil over the entire surface, including walls and corners, with a paper towel. Turn on the griddle and allow to heat on high for 20-30 minutes with the lid closed. Turn off the burners and allow the griddle to cool. Your griddle should have a smooth, glossy black surface. Your griddle is now ready to use.
- Re-season your griddle frequently, particularly when new. If rust occurs, it is an indication that the griddle has not been seasoned enough or the seasoning has been burned off. Scour the rust spot with a heavy brush or steel wool. Reapply a coating of your cooking oil, and season the griddle again.
- Do not do a burn-off after you grill. For any excess food particles and oil, wipe/brush towards the grease drain. Leaving some oil on the griddle surface is okay, and will help to provide a protective coating on the griddle. The more you use your griddle, the easier maintenance will be. For the least amount of maintenance, store your unit in a dry place. If you store your griddle for an extended period of time, apply a thin coating of cooking oil to your griddle, and wipe dry with a paper towel.CHARBROIL.COMPage 8
Cleaning the Burner Assembly Follow these instructions to clean and/or replace parts of burner assembly or if you have trouble igniting grill.
1. Turn gas off at control knobs.
2. Remove griddle and grease cup.
3. Remove hardware securing burners and control panel (Figure A).
4. Unplug electrode wires (Figure B).
5. Detach electrode from burner.
NOTE: Removal/Detachment method will depend on the burner configuration. See different configurations in illustrations below.
6. Carefully lift each burner up and away from valve openings.
We suggest three ways to clean the burner tubes. Use the one easiest for you. (A) Bend a stiff wire (a light weight coat hanger works well) into a small hook. Run the hook through each burner tube several times. (B) Use a narrow bottle brush with a flexible handle (do not use a brass wire brush). Run the brush through each burner tube several times. (C) Wear eye protection: Use an air hose to force air into the burner tube and out the burner ports. Check each port to make sure air comes out each hole.
7. Wire brush entire outer surface of burner to remove food residue and dirt.
8. Clean any blocked ports with a stiff wire such as an open paper clip.
9. Check burner for damage due to normal wear and corrosion, some holes may
become enlarged. If any large cracks or holes are found, replace burner. VERY IMPORTANT: Burner tubes must reengage valve openings. See illustrations at right. Correct burner-to-valve engagement
10. Attach electrode to burner.
11. Carefully replace and secure burners.
12. Connect electrode wires.
13. Replace griddle and grease cup.
14. Before cooking again on grill, perform a “Leak Test” and “Burner Flame Check”.
