  • DO NOT attempt to nd the cause yourself.
  • DO NOT try to light the water heater.
  • DO NOT touch any electrical switch. ADDITIONAL WARNINGS! Liquid propane has an odorant added to aid in detecting a gas leak. Some people may not physically be able to smell or recognize this odorant. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with the smell of liquid propane, ask the gas supplier. Other conditions, such as “odorant fade”, which causes the odorant to diminish in intensity, can also hide or camou age a gas leak. Always check with commercial leak detector or soapy water.
  • Gas detectors are recommended in liquid propane applications and their installation should be in accordance with the detector manufacturer’s recommendations and/or local laws, rules and regulations.
  • Water heaters utilizing liquid propane gas are di erent from natural gas models. A natural gas water heater will not function safely on liquid propane gas and vice versa.
  • No attempt should ever be made to convert the tankless water heater from liquid propane to natural gas. To avoid possible equipment damage, personal injury or re, do not connect the water heater to a fuel type not in accordance with the portable tankless water heater data plate: propane for propane portable tankless water heaters and natural gas for natural gas portable tankless water heaters. These portable tankless water heaters are not certi ed for any other fuel type.
  • Liquid propane gas must be used with great caution. It is heavier than air and will collect rst in lower areas making it hard to detect at nose level.
  • Before attempting to light the water heater, make sure to look and smell for gas leaks. Use a soapy solution to check all gas ttings and connections. Bubbling at a connection indicates a leak that must be corrected. When smelling to detect a gas leak, be sure to sni near the oor also.
  • It is recommended that more than one method, such as soapy solution, gas detectors, etc., be used to detect leaks in gas applications.

1. Do not leave unattended.

2. The exhaust gas and top of the portable tankless water heater is HOT! Do not place

hands or any foreign object near the top of the heater.

3. Do not use in high wind conditions.

4. If the smell of gas is detected, turn o the gas valve at the tank immediately! Do not use

ame for leak detection.

5. Use only liquid propane.

WARNING: Never use an open ame to test for gas leaks, as property damage, personal

injury, or death could result. The tankless water heater and its gas connections must be leak tested at normal operating pressures before it is placed in operation.

  • Turn on the gas to the tankless water heater from the recommended gas cylinder.
  • Use a commercial leak detector or soapy water solution to test for leaks at all connections and ttings.
  • Bubbles indicate a gas leak that must be corrected. The factory connections should also be leak tested after the tankless water heater is placed in operation cause water damage which may or may not be reparable. Please check the warranty information found on our website at www.eccotemp.com for more information on freezing issues. Leak Testing Pressure Relief Valve A new pressure relief valve, complying with the standard for pressure relief valves and automatic gas shut-o Devices for Hot Water Supply Systems, ANSI Z21.22, must be installed at the hot water outlet connection of the tankless water heater at the time of installation. Local codes shall govern the installation of pressure relief valves. The diagram below illustrates a pressure only relief valve. If local codes require a combination and pressure relief valve be installed, an extension piece may be required. For safe operation of the water heater, be sure that:• The pressure rating of the pressure relief valve must not exceed 150 psi, the maximum working pressure of the tankless water heater as marked on the rating plate.• The BTUH rating of the pressure relief valve must equal or exceed the BTUH input of the tankless water heater as marked on its rating plate.• No valve of any type should be installed between the pressure relief valve and the water heater.• The discharge line must be NO SMALLER than the outlet of the valve and must pitch downward to allow complete drainage (by gravity) of the pressure relief valve and discharge line.• The end of the discharge line should not be threaded or concealed. No valve of any type, restriction or reducer coupling should be installed in discharge line. This water heater is for OUTDOOR installation ONLY. It must NOT be installed indoors or in a conned space. An air supply containing halogenated hydrocarbons may be safe to breathe, but when it passes through a gas ame corrosive elements are released that will shorten the life of any gas burning appliance. Propellants from common spray cans or gas leaks from A/C and refrigeration equipment are highly corrosive after passing through a ame and therefore should never be used around the water heater. The tankless water heater warranty is voided when failure of the heater is due to operation in a corrosive atmosphere. Combustion and Ventilation Air Warning! Gasoline, as well as other ammable materials and liquids (adhesives, solvents, paint thinners etc.), and the vapors they produce are extremely dangerous. DO NOT handle, use or store gasoline or other ammable or combustible materials anywhere near or in the vicinity of a water heater or any other appliance. screen on the water inlet is clear of debris. You can also reverse the hookup by taking your water source and hooking it up to the water outlet side and back ushing the system to ensure there is no blockage.

7. If you’ve checked everything and the water heater still continues to not ignite, you can try a water pressure

adjustment as follows: Looking up at the bottom of the portable tankless water heater, you will see 2 oval holes in the case. The hole that is the furthest on the right looks up at the water regulator where you will see two Phillips head screws. Take the screw that is furthest on the right in about a ¼ or ½ turn. This will enable the portable tankless water heater to operate on a lower water pressure by restricting ow.

8. There is a simple test that we can help you perform if you are unaware if you have enough water pressure.

9. Propane gas cylinders sometimes are contaminated with air, especially new tanks upon their rst lling.

Cycle the portable tankless water heater on and o by using the shower head switch several times (5) to purge the air from the gas.

Portable tankless water heater will not start – but there are audible clicks at startup:

1. The portable tankless water heater requires a minimum of about .75 GPM and a minimum of about 25 PSI.

Note: water pressure is at the lower end of operating parameters. You will need a sustained water pressure of approximately 25 – 60 PSI for adequate use if you are using a 12/18/120 volt pump. See adjustment in previous section.

2. High Wind: for safety reasons the tankless heater will not start in sustained wind. Find an alternate location for

the tankless water heater.

3. Out of, or low on gas. Propane gas cylinders sometimes are contaminated with air. Especially new tanks upon

their rst lling. Cycle the portable tankless water heater on and o by using the shower head switch several times (5) to purge the air from the gas.

4. One of the ignition sensors is bent and/or too close to the burner. Look to ensure that the ignition pins and the

heat sensor are completely vertical and they do a 90 degree to the back of the box. If they are not straight (i.e. a 45 degree angle) then you can straighten them with pliers. Please visit support.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter.

5. The gas sensor wire might have come loose or is no longer connected. Please visit support.eccotemp.com or call

1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter. The water does not get hot enough:

1. Ensure you are not operating the portable tankless water heater above 2,000 feet. While it has been eld tested

up to 2,000 feet, we only recommend using it below 2,000 feet. For every 1,000 feet above the recommended 2,000 feet, you will see a 10% decrease in eciency and performance.

2. Be sure you have your gas knob turned to max and your water knob turned a little lower towards min. The less

water moving through the water heater will allow for a higher temperature. Please note: Your incoming water temperature will play a major role in the achievable temperatures your water heater can reach. The colder the incoming water is, the lower the achievable temperature will be. You’ll need to adjust your hot and cold knobs to help counteract the colder incoming water. Variable factors such as incorrect or imperfect installations and varying incoming water temperatures may yield dierent results.

3. Look into the viewer panes (3 small windows on the front cover) to see if there is a blue ame. If the ame is

yellow there could be a cracked gas regulator. DO NOT ATTEMPT to use the portable tankless water heater if a cracked gas regulator is suspected. Visit support.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter. Water is flowing, but there is no hot water coming out:

1. Ensure that you have the incoming water supply and the outgoing water supply hooked up properly. Your water

supply should be attached to your incoming connection (located on the far right) and the shower head should be attached to the outgoing water connection (located as the center connection).

2. Ensure that you have adequate water pressure of at least 25 PSI sustained.

3. Ensure that you have adequate gas in your propane bottle and that the LP regulator is threaded all of the way

onto the portable tankless water heater.

4. Fresh batteries are required for ignition spark. Make sure batteries are aligned in the proper polarity (+/-): at

negative of battery toward the spring side of battery compartment. The portable tankless water heater will not stay on:

1. The portable tankless water heater requires a minimum of about .75 GPM and a minimum of about 20 PSI to

activate and approximately 25 sustained PSI to continue to operate. Consider your water source: Are you using a pump to draw water from a source? Be sure the pump you are using provides adequate sustained water pressure to activate and keep the water heater running.

2. Check that your batteries are fresh and aligned with the proper polarity (+/-): at negative of battery toward the

spring side of the battery compartment. TROUBLESHOOTINGENGLISH
