USER MANUAL PAN 02 Active Palmer

Unbalanced hi-Z cables are susceptible to hum pickup and interference and must be kept short to maintain low noise levels, and to prevent high frequency roll-off due to cable capacitance. To avoid these problems DI boxes convert unbal- anced hi-Z line level signals to balanced lo-Z signals which can then be fed to the microphone inputs of mixing consoles. Professional studio and stage applications use balanced lo-Z signal transfer almost exclusively. The Palmer PAN02 is an active DI box .The PAN02 can be powered via 48 V phantom power or a 9 V battery block. Unscrew the lid of the PAN02 to access the battery compartment. PAN02

FOR EQUIPMENT THAT CONNECTS TO THE POWER MAINS:

22. CAUTION: If the power cord of the device is equipped with an earthing contact, then it must be con-

nected to an outlet with a protective ground. Never deactivate the protective ground of a power cord.EN ENDE ES

23. If the equipment has been exposed to strong fluctuations in temperature (for example, after transport),

do not switch it on immediately. Moisture and condensation could damage the equipment. Do not switch on the equipment until it has reached room temperature.

24. Before connecting the equipment to the power outlet, first verify that the mains voltage and frequency

match the values specified on the equipment. If the equipment has a voltage selection switch, connect the equipment to the power outlet only if the equipment values and the mains power values match. If the included power cord or power adapter does not fit in your wall outlet, contact your electrician.

25. Do not step on the power cord. Make certain that the power cable does not become kinked, especially at

the mains outlet and/or power adapter and the equipment connector.

26. When connecting the equipment, make certain that the power cord or power adapter is always freely ac-

cessible. Always disconnect the equipment from the power supply if the equipment is not in use or if you want to clean the equipment. Always unplug the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet at the plug or adapter and not by pulling on the cord. Never touch the power cord and power adapter with wet hands.

27. Whenever possible, avoid switching the equipment on and off in quick succession because otherwise

this can shorten the useful life of the equipment.

repeatedly, please contact an authorised service centre.

29. To disconnect the equipment from the power mains completely, unplug the power cord or power adapter

from the power outlet.

30. If your device is equipped with a Volex power connector, the mating Volex equipment connector must be

unlocked before it can be removed. However, this also means that the equipment can slide and fall down if the power cable is pulled, which can lead to personal injuries and/or other damage. For this reason, always be careful when laying cables.

31. Unplug the power cord and power adapter from the power outlet if there is a risk of a lightning strike or

before extended periods of disuse. CAUTION: CAUTION

RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

1. Do not look into the beam from a distance of less than 40 cm.

2. Do not stare into the beam for extended periods at short-to-medium distances.

3. Do not view the beam directly with optical instruments such as magnifiers.

4. Under some circumstances, stroboscopic effects may trigger epileptic seizures in sensitive individuals!

For this reason, persons who suffer from epilepsy should always avoid places where strobe lights are used.EN ENDE ES

CONNECTORS Line level signals such as keyboard signals are fed to the INPUT using a high quality shielded instrument cable (6.3mm TS). For simultaneous connection to an instrument amplifier use the LINK output which is wired in paral- lel. CAUTION - do NOT use the LINK connector for signal input! All unbalanced instrument cables should be as short as possible, and the PAN02 should be located close to the unbalanced source. The balanced lo-Z output signal is available at male XLR connector. This is wired to the international standard (pin 2 = hot) and electrically connected in parallel. Use shielded balanced microphone cable for connection to a mixing console input. Cable length is basically uncritical with no audible signal degradation at 100 meters and beyond (300’ +).

30DB PAD AND GND LIFT SWITCHES

The PAN02 can also be used to feed loudspeaker level signals to a mixing console by connecting the amplifier output to the PAN02 INPUT, and the corresponding LINK output to a loudspeaker. Use dedicated loudspeaker cable only for both connections (16AWG minimum). Due to the much higher level of loudspeaker signals (compared to instrument and line level signals) the PAD 30dB switch must be engaged. To prevent clipping the amplifier should not be rated higher than 100W. WARNING! TUBE AMPLIFIERS ALWAYS REQUIRE AN APPROPRIATE LOAD AT THEIR OUTPUTS. DO NOT CONNECT THE PAN02 TO TUBE AMPLIFIERS WITHOUT CONNECTING AN APPROPRIATE LOUDSPEAKER ENCLOSURE TO THE AMPLIFIER TO PREVENT PERMANENT DAMAGE TO BOTH UNITS. The PAD switch can also be used to attenuate the output level to mixing desks that do not provide attenuation of strong line level signals. The shield of standard microphone cable is wired to pin 1 of the XLR connectors at both ends also connecting the equipment grounds which may result in ground loop hum. Since grounding at one end only provides sufficient shielding the PAN02’s GND LIFT switch disconnects pin 1 from ground to prevent ground loops and hum. Let your ears be the judge and always set the switch to the position with minimum interference.EN FRDE ES
