Mounting Height, Clearance, & Ducting

Extension Duct Cover

78"

Ceiling Heights

minimum ducted (C) 92-1/2" (7' 8-1/2") 109" (9' 1")

maximum (D) 122" (10' 2") 148" (12' 4")

Mounting Height, Clearance, & Ducting

A minimum of 8" round duct is recommended to maintain maximum air flow efficiency for single blower and 10" round duct for dual internal blower. Both options can be vertically or horizontally ducted.

Always use rigid type metal ducts only. Flexible ducts could restrict air flow by up to 50%.

Also use the ducting calculation sheet (on page 8) to compute total available duct run when using elbows, transitions and caps.

ALWAYS, when possible, reduce the number or transitions and turns. If long duct run is required, increase duct size.

If turns or transitions are required; install as far away from hood duct output and as far apart, between the two as possible.

Minimum mount height between range top to hood bottom should be no less than 24".

Maximum mount height should be no higher than 36".

It is important to install the hood at the proper mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage and fire hazard; while hoods mounted too high will be hard to reach and will lose its performance and efficiency.

If available, also refer range manufacturer's height clearance requirements and recommended hood mounting height above range. Always check your local codes for any differences.

For shipment and installation damages:

▶ Please fully inspect unit for damage before installation.
If the unit is damaged in shipment, return the unit to the store in which it was bought for repair or replacement.
If the unit is damaged by the customer, repair or replacement is the responsibility of the customer.
If the unit is damaged by the installer (if other than the customer), repair of replacement must be made by arrangement between customer and installer.

WARNING

Zephyr Titan AK7754BS - WARNING - 1

Fire Hazard: NEVER exhaust air or terminate ductwork into spaces between walls, crawl spaces, ceilings, attics, or garages. All exhaust must be ducted to the outside, unless using the recirculating option.

▶ Use single wall rigid metal ductwork only.

▶ Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws and tape all joints w/ certified Silver Tape or Duct Tape.

CAUTION

Zephyr Titan AK7754BS - CAUTION - 1

At least two installers are required due to the weight and size of the hood.

  1. Determine mounting location on ceiling and temporarily tape paper template (included with the hood) to the ceiling. Cut out internal shaded area of template to allow the ducting and electrical to pass through. If necessary, add wood blocking (min. 2" x 4") to ceiling joists located behind the drywall to reinforce the mounting location*. (FIG. B1). Secure (2) M6 x 2" wood screws to points A and B of the paper template (FIG. C). Do not completely tighten screws, leave approximately 1/4" exposed.
  2. Remove screws securing top and bottom support frames together. Adjust support frame to accommodate the desired hood height and re-assemble the frame using the previously removed screws (2 screws for each support frame arm). (FIG. B3).

* Hood is intended to be mounted to a finished ceiling.

  1. Attach square support bracket inside the support frame assembly. The placement of the square support bracket should preferably be aligned in the middle where the top and bottom frame intersect (FIG. E1). Install (8) M4 x 8 screws to secure the square support bracket onto the frame. Mount diagonal support brackets onto the support frame assembly facing away from each other in a crossed formation (FIG. E2). The diagonal support brackets have a ledge on the side. During installation, mount the diagonal support brackets with the ledge facing inwards to the unit (FIG. E3). Install (4) M4 x 8 screws to secure the diagonal support brackets onto the frame.

  2. Lift support frame assembly up to the ceiling making sure the word "front" on the top support frame faces the front of the hood where the controls will be located (FIG. D). The key holes on the top support frame should cover the wood screws previously installed in the ceiling. Slide support frame towards narrow end of key holes to lock the frame in place. Install the last (4) M6 x 2" wood screws with washers into the four remaining holes of the top support frame to secure it to the ceiling. (2) M6 x 2" wood screws with washers are installed on the corners and the other (2) M6 x 2" wood screws are installed on the front and rear long sides of the support bracket (FIG. D). Tighten all screws.

Mounting the Hood

  1. Install the (4) 3/16 x 7/8 mounting screws on top of the four corners of the unit body (FIG. B4). Lift hood and align the mounting screws with the (4) key holes on the bottom of support frame (FIG. F). Slide hood towards the narrow end of key holes to lock into place. Hand tighten each of the (4) screws with a screwdriver to secure to bottom support frame. Further secure bottom support frame to unit body by (1) M4 x 12 safety screw (FIG. G).
  2. Remove tape securing electronics mounting bracket to hood and reposition electronics mounting bracket with (2) M4 x 8 screws. Install electrical and duct work.
  3. Power up hood, verify all functions, and check for leaks around duct tape.
  4. Assembly top duct covers (with louver holes) together over top support frame and secure top duct covers together by magnetic strips.
  5. Secure top duct covers to top support frame by using (4) 3/16 x 1/4" screws (2 screws for each top duct cover (FIG. H).
  6. Assemble bottom duct covers together over top duct covers and secure together by magnetic strips. Bottom duct covers should rest on top of the hood body.

Airflow Control Technology (ACT™)

Some local codes limit the maximum amount of CFM a range hood can move. ACT ^™ allows you to control the maximum blower CFM of select Zephyr Ventilation range hoods without the need for expensive make up air kits. ACT ^™ enables the installer to easily set the maximum blower speed to one of three most commonly specified CFM levels; 590, 390, or 290 CFM. The usage of ACT ^™ may not be necessary for your installation. Please check your local codes for CFM restrictions.

ACT ^™ is not available with 1300 CFM dual internal blower option.

  3. Re-install PC board and continue with hood installation.
  4. Remove the appropriate foil CFM sticker included with the hood literature and place inside the hood body below the wiring diagram or in another clearly visible location.

To verify if your installer enabled ACT™:

  1. With hood off, hold the On/Off button for three seconds. The Display will show if ACT ^™ is disabled and set to the maximum CFM or if ACT ^™ is enabled and set to one of the restricted maximum CFM levels of 590, 390 or 290.
  2. There should also be a foil label located inside the hood body near the wiring diagram that indicates the blower CFM.
