that the temperature knob is set to .
2. Lift the griddle-grill hotplate by its handles to
position it on the main body of the appliance. - Always make sure that the electrical pins on the underside of the hotplate and the connec- tors on the main body of the appliance are completely dry prior to their installation. - If the hotplate has not been correctly inserted, the appliance will not work. Important remarks- When in cooking mode, the temperature of the hotplate will self-regulate, the indicator lights on the temperature knobs changing from red to blue, to ensure that the food is evenly cooked. - The temperature may cause the hotplate to warp slightly. This will not affect its cooking performance. - For suggestions regarding the type of food you can prepare on your appliance, and the recommended heat settings, please refer to the following tables. NOtE
3. Make sure that the grease collector drawer is
correctly inserted under the hotplate.
4. Plug in the power cord.
5. Turn on the power by switching the "On/Off"
switch to On ("I"). The temperature indicator lights (7 and 11) will glow blue. If the light remains off, this means that the electrical pins under the hotplate have not been properly inserted. Make sure that the hotplate is securely fitted onto the main body of the appliance. When properly inserted, the temperature light will come on.
6. Set the temperature knobs for the Grill and/or Grill
zone to the desired position by turning them to the right. The indicator lights will turn red during the heating process then blue again once the desired temperatures have been reached. You can now place your food on the hotplate and start cooking it according to the instructions in the "Tips & Tricks" section on page 34, and those included in the recipes section. When using the hotplate for the first time, there may be some smoke. This is perfectly normal. NOtE The Griddle hotplate is ideal for… - Fried eggs - Vegetables, corn on the cob - Fruit - Flatbread, blinis - Fish, seafood, small shellfish - White meat - Meat or delicatessen products (bacon) The Grill hotplate is ideal for… - Steak (meat, fish, poultry) - Hamburgers, hot dogs - Medium to thick sliced meat - Large shellfish (gambas prawns) Cooking method33 Heat setting Position 1 Recommended temperature for keeping food warm (low heat) Position 2 Recommended temperature for reheating food (medium heat) Position 3 Recommended temperature for reheating food (high heat) Position 4 Temperature recommended for cooking food: - most vegetables and fruit - small and/or fragile seafood (such as small squid or octopus) - finely-sliced meat: 1 to 2 mm thick - eggs - cheese Position 5 Recommended temperature for cooking food: - tightly-packed vegetables (such as red endives (chicory), broc

7. When no longer in use, turn the heat off by turning
the temperature knob to the left to .
8. Immediately turn off the appliance by turning the
"On/Off" switch to "Off" and unplug the power cord from the wall socket. Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning. For healthier cooking, remember to push any grease towards the drainage slot, using a wooden spoon to avoid scratches. This grease will collect in the collector drawer, which should be emptied after each use. Under no circumstances should these juices be eaten. Tip - Never pour cold water on the hotplate while it is hot. - Never use metal utensils as they may damage the non-stick coating on the hotplate. - When only one zone is being used, the unused zone will tend to get slightly hot too, espe
cially around the middle of the hotplate. Important remarks34 - The hotplate is mounted on the stand. - When you remove the hotplate, empty the collector drawer and place it back into the stand. This will allow the grease to drain into the drawer while serving at the table. - Be careful not to burn yourself with the juices and grease in the collector drawer when lifting and moving the hotplate. Keep the hotplate horizontal to prevent juices from spilling out, or the drawer from sliding out of the stand. NOTE The Cook & Serve griddle-grill has been specially designed to be used to serve food at the table. To do so, you simply remove the hotplate by lifting it by its handles and placing it in the middle of the table to serve food directly. taBle seRvice - Before removing the hotplate, always turn the temperature knob to and the switch to Off "O" before unplugging the power cord. - Make sure you don’t put anything under the hotplate once it has been put on the table to serve the food. Important remarks
- Food should be at room temperature. We suggest taking it out of the refrigerator one hour in advance.
- As this appliance is equipped with a non-stick hotplate, using oil or other types of fat is not always necessary.
- Before grilling sausages, we recommend that you prick them to allow any excess fat to drain out.
- Do not salt the meat until it is cooked. This would make the meat tough and drain its juices. Vegetables, on the other hand, will taste better if they are salted beforehand.
- When cooking "tougher" meats (such as chops or cutlets, etc.), we recommend that you tenderize them by marinating them for a few hours in wine or vinegar.
- Remember to marinate your meat and fish in mixtures containing spices or condiments. This will make your grilled food more fragrant and your griddle-cooked food more tender.
- If you are making a recipe that calls for a marinade, or pre-marinated meats, remove any excess marinade and dab the meat with absorbent kitchen paper before placing it on the hotplate.
- Oil-based marinades can produce a lot of smoke. You may need to place the appliance under an extractor hood.
- Please be aware that sweet marinades can burn and stick to the hotplate when cooking.
- Do not prick the meat with a fork or cut it while it is cooking. This would allow its juices to escape and make the meat tough.
- Food that is seared quickly is tastier. We therefore recommend that you set the temperature to the maximum setting. Reduce the temperature if the food tends to blacken or burn.
- Always use wooden or thermoplastic utensils to turn your food and avoid damaging the hotplate plaque. tiPs & tRicKs35 CLEANING BEFORE ACTIVATING FOR THE FIRST TIME

malfunctions Causes Solutions The appliance is not working or the food is not cooking. The power is off. Make sure that the appliance's power cord is properly plugged into the wall socket and that the "On/Off" switch is set to "On" ("I"). Alternatively, check the circuit breaker or fuses in your electrical system. The hotplate has not been correctly fitted onto the main body of the appliance. Remove and reposition the hotplate (please refer to the section entitled "Activation"). The appliance is being used for the first time and it is smoking. It is normal for the appliance to produce some smoke when first used. Clean the hotplate with a damp cloth before switching on the appliance. Grilled products are not being properly seared or are slow to cook. The cooking method (griddle or grill) and/or the level of heat chosen are not suited to your requirements. Select the appropriate mode of cooking and readjust the heating level. A lot of smoke is produced when cooking food. Your food is too greasy. Fat causes the formation of smoke.
