Frequently Asked Questions - NQA4060G2 Bogen

How to connect speakers in bridged mode?
For bridged mode operation, connect the speaker wires between terminals A+ and B- (or C+ and D-). Use a single line input (1 or 3) as source. This mode is ideal for high-impedance loads (70V, 25V, 8Ω) with doubled power.
How to connect speakers in 2-channel mode?
In 2-channel mode, each pair of terminals corresponds to an independent channel. Connect channel A to A+/A-, channel B to B+/B-, etc. Use line inputs 1 and 2 for channels A/B, and 3 and 4 for C/D. This mode is suitable for 25V, 8Ω or 4Ω loads.
What does each color of the STATUS indicator mean?
The STATUS indicator shows the amplifier status: Flashing red = no network connection; Solid blue = uninitialized (discovery mode); Solid green = registered and normal operation; Flashing green = IP address obtained but not registered; Solid red = requires restart; Flashing blue = update in progress.
What is the minimum distance around the device for adequate ventilation?
It is essential to leave at least 10 cm of free space around the device. Do not block ventilation openings and avoid placing the device in a confined space such as a cabinet.
Can I use Phoenix and RCA inputs simultaneously on the same channel?
No, you must choose one or the other for each pair of channels (A+B or C+D). If you use the RCA input and experience hum, place a jumper between pins 1 (shield) and 3 (-) of the corresponding Phoenix connector.
How to reset the amplifier to factory settings?
Use the Reset button on the front. Hold it for about 5 seconds for a simple restart. For a full reset, refer to the Nyquist configuration manual; the procedure may require a specific sequence via the web interface.
What is the minimum load impedance in 70V bridged mode?
The minimum impedance must not be lower than 8 Ω. Below that, the amplifier automatically protects itself. The total combined power must not exceed 80% of the rated power.
What to do if the POWER indicator remains solid red after power-up?
A solid red POWER indicator means the amplifier is powered but in startup sequence. Normally, it changes to flashing green then solid green. If it remains solid red, check the power supply and mains cord. If the problem persists, contact technical support.
Can I use this amplifier outdoors?
No, the device is intended for indoor use in a temperate climate. Do not expose to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. It should be installed in a dry, well-ventilated location.
How to clean the amplifier?
Unplug the device before cleaning. Use a dry cloth to wipe the surface. Never use liquids, sprays, or solvents. Do not let water enter the openings.

These networked Audio Power Amplifiers support a full range of commercial paging, public address applications, and residential audio applications, regardless of the venue size. The NQ-A4060, NQ-4120, and the NQ-4300 can operate in 2-, 3-, or 4-channel mode, depending on bridged mode configurations and application need.

Each networked audio power amplifier is a half-rack 2RU high enclosure containing a Class D audio power amplifier, a universal switched-mode power supply, an RJ45 network jack, a USB port, and pluggable Phoenix style terminals for loudspeaker and Line-In connections. Optionally, Line-In can be connected using the available RCA connectors.

Installation

To install the Nyquist NQ-A4XXX Power Amplifiers:

  1. Ensure the POWER switch is in the off position.
  2. This product requires a connection to a Mains circuit with a maximum of a 20A breaker.
  3. Connect a Cat-5 type cable into the amplifier's Ethernet port and ensure the other end of the cable is correctly connected to your network.
  4. Set each of the two Amplifier Mode switches to the desired setting. Each of the two internal amplifiers (A+B and C+D) can be configured for single-channel bridged mode (aka bridged-tied load) operation for 70V/25V/8Ω applications, or 2-channel operation for 25V/8Ω/4Ω applications. The Amplifier Mode switch is used in conjunction with the Bridged Signal routing setting in the system console.
Bridged Mode is typically used when higher power, single channel operation with a high impedance loudspeaker load is desired. A typical use-case would be for 70V or 25V loudspeaker runs, where the total load is no less than 8Ω.
2-Channel Mode is typically used for 8Ω or 4Ω loudspeakers or 25V loudspeaker runs. This mode allows the two amplifier channels to run independently.
In Bridged Mode, Line Input 1 (or Line Input 3) is used as input. For 2-Channel Mode operation, Line Inputs 1 and 2 (or Line Inputs 3 and 4) are used.
  5. Connect the loudspeaker wires to the Amplifier Output Terminals (labeled A +/-, B +/-, C +/-, and D +/-) as appropriate for the desired mode of operation (see Figures 1 and 2).
Bridged mode operation requires the speaker wires to be

connected across a single, different terminal on each channel (A+ and B- and/or C+ and D-) (see Figure 1).

If 2-Channel Mode is used, then Channel A is connected to A+ and A- terminals, Channel B to B+ and B- terminals, Channel C to C+ and C- terminals, and Channel D to D+ and D- terminals (see Figure 2).

or station.

The amplifier uses balanced line level (up to 2V RMS) analog audio inputs. You can use either Phoenix or RCA as the input (but not both on the same A+B or C+D terminal pair).

Note: If you use the RCA input and experience a ground hum, place a jumper on the Phoenix balanced Line-In connector from Pin 1 (shield) to Pin 3 (-) pin to remove the hum.

  1. Plug the power line cord into the power source.
  2. Toggle the Power switch to the On position.

For information about configuring the amplifier for the Nyquist system, refer to the Nyquist Power Amplifiers Configuration Manual.

NOTICE

The minimum impedance of a Bridged 70V/25V/8Ω High-Impedance system should not be less than 8Ω. The minimum impedance of a 2CH 25V/8/4Ω system should not be less than 4Ω per channel.

The combined total power of each speaker tap must not exceed 80% of the rated amplifier power in either Bridged 70V/25V/8Ω mode or 2CH 25V/8/4Ω mode.

Failure to observe minimum speaker impedance will cause the amplifier to self protect until the speaker configuration is corrected.

Power Ratings

The NQ-A4300 can provide 300 Watts by four channels (A, B, C, and D) into 25V, or 8Ω, or 4Ω loads, or provide 600 Watts Bridged by two channels (A+B Bridged and/or C+D Bridged) into 70V, or 25V, or 8Ω load configurations. The NQ-A4120 can provide 120 Watts by four channels (A, B, C, and D) into 25V, or 8Ω, or 4Ω loads, or provide 240 Watts Bridged by two channels (A+B Bridged and/or C+D Bridged) into 70V, or 25V, or 8Ω load configurations. The NQ-A4060 can provide 60 Watts by four channels (A, B, C, and D) into 25V, or 8Ω, or 4Ω loads, or provide 120 Watts Bridged by two channels (A+B Bridged and/or C+D Bridged) into 70V, or 25V, or 8Ω load configurations.

Viewing and Understanding LEDs

Two LEDs appear on the front of the amplifier. One is labeled POWER and appears as solid red during initial power up, flashes green during a boot sequence, and appears solid green when fully booted.

The STATUS LED uses the following indicators to provide information about the appliance:

  • FLASHING RED – No network connection found.
  • SOLID BLUE – The amplifier is in an uninitialized state and is not associated to a server. (The server may be in a discovery mode.)

- SOLID GREEN – The amplifier is registered to a Nyquist server and is in normal operation.

- FLASHING GREEN – The amplifier has an IP address but is not registered with the Nyquist server.

- SOLID RED – The amplifier needs to be rebooted or reset so that the Nyquist application can resume.

- FLASHING BLUE – The amplifier is updating.
