Frequently Asked Questions - 1362991 Renkforce

How to adjust the operating time of the detector?
Use the TIME dial: turn it to the left (counterclockwise) to reduce the time (min. 10 s) and to the right to increase it (max. 12 min). If a new movement is detected, the timer resets.
How to adjust the sensitivity to avoid false alarms?
Turn the SENS dial to the left (towards '-') to decrease sensitivity and reduce false triggers. If the sensitivity is too low, turn to the right (towards '+').
What is the maximum range of the detector?
The range depends on the mounting: 5 to 15 m for wall mounting, and 2 to 8 m for ceiling mounting. It is adjustable via the SENS dial.
Can this detector be used outdoors?
Yes, the IP44 protection rating allows outdoor use, provided it is installed protected from water splashes (e.g., under an eaves). Do not immerse.
How to test the detector's operation?
Set the TIME dial to the minimum position (10 s), LUX to the Sun symbol (max), and SENS to the middle. Walk through the detection zone; the connected device should turn on. After the test, adjust the settings as needed.
What to do if the connected device does not turn on?
Check the LUX setting: turn it towards the Sun for daytime operation. Increase the sensitivity (SENS towards '+'). Make sure the mains voltage is present and the connected device works.
What to do if the device stays on permanently?
This may be due to continuous movements in the detection zone (including through walls). Reduce the sensitivity (SENS towards '-'). For a test, set a very short operating time.

Functional description

The motion detector sends out signals in 5.8 GHz range (similar to a radar). These signals are reflected from surfaces located within the detection range.

The integrated electronic system evaluates the received signals. If there is a motion within the detection range (no matter if it is a human, animal or objects), the signals received will change and the switching output of the motion detector is activated.

The range for detecting motion is determined by several factors:

The motion detector's mounting height
The size of the object
- Adjustment of the knob "SENS" (sensitivity) of the motion detector
- The distance of the object to the motion detector
- Speed of movement
Metal objects in the vicinity of the motion detector

The detection range of the motion detector can be seen in both pictures, depending on the location of installation (above: installation on the wall, below: installation on the ceiling).

For installation on the ceiling, the horizontal detection angle is 360^ ; the range is up to 15 m.

Preparations for installation

  • Only install the motion detector on a stable surface. Only use the motion detector when it is securely installed.

Renkforce 1362991 - Preparations for installation - 1

If there are metal objects behind/under the mounting location (e.g., steel beams, plates or similar), the motion detector will not function properly.

The flow into water or sewage pipes may trigger a switching process.

If you plan to mount several motion detectors, they must have a minimum distance of 2m from each other.

  • Walls, furniture or the like will not inhibit the motion detection due to the high frequency technology used. Depending on the material thickness and humidity level, the degree of permeation can vary or the high frequency signal may be attenuated.
Material Permeation Attenuation
Synthetic/plastics yes5 - 10%
Wood yes 10 - 20%
Glass yes 15 - 30%
Brickwork yes, with wall thickness of < 30 cm 60 - 70%
no, with wall thickness of > 30 cm
Reinforced concreteno100%
Metalno100%

The values should only be used as a guide. Depending on the materials and the conditions of the environment, strong deviations can be produced.

  • The motion detector can be installed on a wall or a ceiling (such as an awning etc).

Renkforce 1362991 - Preparations for installation - 2

Observe that the product is always installed such that it is out of reach of children.

  • When the motion detector is installed on a ceiling, you should maintain a distance of at least 1m from the walls. A greater distance is recommended for thin walls; otherwise, persons on the other side of the wall may also trigger a switching process.

The range can be reduced with the knob "SENS", if there is false activations.

Installation and connection

Renkforce 1362991 - Installation and connection - 1

e refer to the "Safety instructions" and "Preparations for installation" chapter!

Renkforce 1362991 - Installation and connection - 2

motion detector must be installed only when it is voltage-free. It is not sufficient to just turn off the light switch!

First switch off all poles of the mains supply by removing the fuse or switching off at the circuit breaker and then also switch off the associated residual current circuit breaker. Secure it against unauthorised reconnection, e.g., with a danger sign.

Check that the mains cable is free of current e.g., with an appropriate tester.

  • Make sure you fix the motion detector to a solid base, e.g., masonry. Use screws and, if necessary, screw anchors that are suitable for the surface.

  • Start the installation by unscrewing the holder. For this purpose, the two screws of the front side are to be unscrewed. See arrow in the picture on the right.

Remove the holder from the motion detector.

  • Fasten the holder with two screws and plugs to the room ceiling or a wall.

Renkforce 1362991 - Installation and connection - 3

Renkforce 1362991 - Installation and connection - 4

Pv attention when drilling and tightening the screws that no cables or pipes are damaged!

For installation on the wall, the holder must be fixed so that both of the round corners are upward (see the above picture). Therefore, the knobs lie downwards later.

In case the mains supply line is not laid under plaster but is led to the motion detector via an installation pipe, the mains supply line must be laid under there (a small plastic part can be broken out of the casing of the motion detector for this purpose).

Otherwise, water can run down along the mains supply line into the motion detector, which will damage it. Furthermore, this could cause a lethal electric shock!

  • Remove the insulation on the cable of the mains supply line and the connection line connected to the device. The individual wires of the lines must be stripped over a length of approx. 6 - 8 mm.
  • Pass the cable through the opening on the side of the holder.
  • Connect the mains supply line and the cable to the device using the screw terminals (wire cross section 1.5 - 2.5mm^2 ).

On the inside of the holder, a wiring diagram is provided; there is corresponding labelling next to the screw terminals

L = phase

N = Neutral wire

A = Outlet/switched phase, to the device

Renkforce 1362991 - Installation and connection - 5

  • The protective earth wire (PE, yellow-green cable) must be connected to a different place (for example in an external terminal box), since there is no suitable fastening available in the motion detector.
  • Put the motion detector onto the holder and secure it in place with the two screws that were removed in the beginning.
  • Switch on the power.

Adjusting the motion detector

The motion detector has three knobs, with which the operating period ("TIME"), the sensitivity ("SENS") and the switching threshold for a certain ambient brightness ("LUX") can be changed.

Renkforce 1362991 - Adjusting the motion detector - 1

Knob "TIME" (power-up time)

With this knob, the operating period for the outlet (screw terminal A) to the device can be set. Turning it to the left anticlockwise will reduce the operating period of the connected device, while turning to the right will extend the period.

A setting of 10 seconds (tolerance ± 3 seconds) up to 12 minutes (tolerance ± 1 minute) is possible.

If now motion is detected during the on-time, the on-time duration starts once again; the consumer stays switched on.

Knob "SENS" (sensitivity)

With this knob, it can be adjusted how strong a movement must be to trigger a switching action.

Turning to the left anticlockwise (in the direction of “-”) reduces the sensitivity, while turning to the right clockwise (in the direction of “+”) increases it.

By adjusting the sensitivity, you can also control the range of the sensor (e.g., a person who walks through the monitoring area is recognised only at a closer proximity to the sensor if the sensitivity is reduced).

If false alarms occur too often, you can reduce the sensitivity (turn the knob a little to the left in the direction of " - ).

Knob "LUX" (brightness setting)

This knob allows the switching threshold to be set, i.e. the ambient brightness at which the motion switch is activated.

Turning the knob anticlockwise to the left, means the motion detector activates when it is darker; turning it to the right, in direction of the sun symbol, the motion detector activates in brighter ambiance.

Functional test

For a function test, a short operating period is to be set (turn knob "TIME" to the setting of "10S"). Additionally, the knob for brightness ("LUX") must be turned all the way to the right (to the sun symbol).

The desired sensitivity is to be set with the knob "SENS". For the first test, set the knob in the middle position.

Now cross the detection range. The motion detector activates the connected device when it recognises a movement in the detection range.

Adjust the knobs accordingly after the function test. See above.

Troubleshooting

The connected device is not switched on

  • Check the settings of the knob "LUX" for the brightness control. When it is turned too much anticlockwise to the left, the motion detector will be activated already in darkness.
  • Increase the sensitivity (turn the knob "SENS" in the "+" direction).
  • Check whether there is a power supply, and whether the device, (i.e. a bulb) functions.
  • Rapid movements within the detection area are filtered out by the electronic system, in order to prevent switching errors.

The connected device is switched on permanently

  • If constant movements in the monitored area are detected, it can also be a movement in a room nearby due to the HF technology in use. Increase the sensitivity (turn the knob "SENS" in the "+" direction).
Please note: If the motion detector is activated due to a movement and a new movement is recognised during the operating period, the operating period is reset!
  • Set a very short switch-on time for testing, in order to narrow down the causes.

Maintenance and cleaning

The product is maintenance-free. Repair or maintenance work must be carried out by a specialist.

You can use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Dust can be very easily removed with a soft, clean brush and a vacuum cleaner.

Do not use aggressive chemical or scouring cleaning agents, as this may lead to discolouration or changes in the material on the surface.
