Frequently Asked Questions - Powerline 4 Zero Watt ANSMANN

What types of batteries can I charge with the Powerline 4 Zero Watt?
You can charge NiMH or NiCd rechargeable batteries in LR6 (AA) and LR3 (AAA) formats. Never try to charge alkaline or non-rechargeable batteries.
How to start charging on mains power?
Insert the batteries into the channels, then press the START button for about 2 seconds. The green LEDs will flash to indicate charging.
Does charging start automatically in the car?
Yes, on the 12V cigarette lighter adapter, charging starts automatically as soon as you insert the batteries. No pressing of START is needed.
What does the fast flashing green LED mean?
A fast flashing (1s on/1s off) indicates that the battery is defective or that a non-rechargeable battery has been inserted. Remove the battery and check it.
Can I charge different types of batteries at the same time?
Yes, each channel is independent. You can charge AA and AAA batteries of NiMH or NiCd types simultaneously. The charger manages each battery individually.
What happens after charging is complete?
The charger switches to maintenance charge. On mains power, it automatically disconnects from the grid after 1 hour (Zero Watt technology). On 12V, maintenance charging continues until disconnected.
Can I leave the charger plugged in permanently?
Yes, thanks to Zero Watt technology, the charger completely disconnects from the mains after charging, consuming no standby energy. It can remain plugged in safely.
What should I do if the charger does not work?
Check the mains socket or cigarette lighter. Ensure the batteries are inserted with the correct polarity (+/-). If the LED does not light up, the charger may be defective: contact customer service.
How to clean the charger?
Always disconnect the charger before cleaning. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the contacts and casing. Avoid moisture.
What is the warranty period?
The Powerline 4 Zero Watt charger is covered by a 3-year warranty from ANSMANN. The warranty does not cover damage due to misuse or poor quality batteries.

To start the charging process, press the START button for approx. 2 sec. (only when operated with AC power)
The charging condition of cells is not important before charging, as each cell is charged individually
Microprocessor controlled charging and monitoring of the charging status
Microprocessor controlled and individual supervision of each cell
Automatic charging current adjustment
Reverse polarity protection
Multiple over charging protection systems including: -ΔV detection, 0ΔV detection and safety timer
Trickle charging
Faulty cell detection / accidental Alkaline insertion detection
Clear LED indicator per charging slot shows the individual rechargeable battery status

Switch-mode power supply (100-240V AC / 50-60Hz) for worldwide use
12V car adapter included for use inside a car

OPERaTION (see diagram)

Using the charger in a mains power outlet: Insert the relevant input plug included [1] (depending on the country version). There are 4 different mains plugs A, B, C or D available, that connect to the primary contacts [2] by pushing the plug to the stop position [3] . Please ensure that the input plug clicks audibly into the housing. To release the input plug, please push the release button [4] (with a pen for example) and move the plug backwards.

Using the charger in a vehicle: Connect the DC output plug [5] of the 12V car adaptor to the DC input socket of the charger [6]. Connect the car plug [7] to the cigarette lighter socket in the vehicle (12V DC). Please make sure that the power of the cigarette lighter socket is switched on. Some cars require the ignition to be switched on.

Charging process: Insert 1-4 NiMH or NiCd cells of the sizes Mignon (AA) or Micro (AAA) corresponding to the battery symbol in the charging slot. If the charger operates on AC power, press the START button for about 2 seconds to start the charging process. If the charger operates in the vehicle, the charging process starts automatically after inserting a rechargeable battery. The charge state of each cell will be indicated by one LED (see LED INDICATORS) per charging slot. The cells do not have to be inserted simultaneously as the charging processes are independent from each other. It is normal that cells become warm during charging. After charging is complete, the charger switches automatically to trickle charge.

When the charger operates via the mains (100-240V AC), the trickle charge for all inserted cells will automatically switch off after one hour from when the last cell was fully charged. The charger automatically disconnects itself from the mains power by means of the intelligent Zero Watt Technology. It does not consume any electric power even if it remains in the power socket.

When the charger operates in the vehicle (12V DC), there is no need for automatic cut off. Trickle charge continues until the cells are removed or until the car plug will be disconnected from its socket.

LED INdICaTORs

Green LED flashes slowly (2 sec. on / 2 sec. off): battery is being charged
Green LED lights continuously: battery charged, trickle charging
Green LED flashes quickly (1 sec. on / 1 sec. off): no charging; battery defective or non-rechargeable battery recognised
All LED's off: charger disconnected from mains or no cells inserted
