Frequently Asked Questions - XHD 10x44 MINOX

How to adjust the sharpness of the Minox XHD 10x44 binoculars?
To get a sharp image, start by observing a distant fixed object. Close your right eye and turn the central focusing wheel until the image is sharp with your left eye. Then close your left eye and turn the diopter adjustment ring on the right eyepiece until sharpness is achieved with your right eye. These adjustments adapt the binoculars to your individual vision. For objects at different distances, only use the central wheel.
How to use binoculars with glasses?
The Minox XHD 10x44 binoculars are equipped with retractable eyecups. If you wear glasses, lower the eyecups by turning them clockwise (to the right) until they stop. This allows you to place your eye closer to the eyepiece and enjoy a full field of view without image loss.
How to adjust the interpupillary distance?
Look through both eyepieces and spread or bring the two tubes together by articulating them around the central axis until the two image circles merge into one, perfectly circular and unbroken. This adjustment adapts the binoculars to the distance between your eyes.
Can the Minox XHD 10x44 binoculars be mounted on a tripod?
Yes, tripod mounting is possible using the Minox tripod adapter (ref. 8045832). To do this, remove the protective screw located under the binoculars, screw on the adapter, then attach the assembly to the tripod. After use, screw the protective screw back on. Using a tripod is recommended to reduce shaking, especially at high magnification.
How to clean the lenses of the binoculars?
To remove dust and smudges, use a soft brush or a blower brush to remove particles. Then gently wipe with an optical cloth and lens cleaner. For stubborn fingerprints, the Minox optical cleaning kit (ref. 80405463) is recommended. Avoid abrasive products and rough movements.
Where is the serial number of the Minox XHD 10x44 binoculars located?
The serial number is located under the left eyecup. To access it, turn the eyecup counterclockwise (to the left) until the number appears on the lower part of the eyepiece. Note this number: it is useful in case of loss or for warranty claims.
What is the warranty on the Minox XHD 10x44 binoculars?
The binoculars have a legal 2-year warranty from the date of purchase from an authorized dealer. It covers manufacturing defects. To invoke it, present a printed proof of purchase. Minox also offers a warranty extension by registering your product at www.minox.com/service.
What to do in case of a problem with the binoculars?
Contact Minox customer service or an authorized distributor. For Germany, contact Minox GmbH directly. For other countries, find the local dealer at www.minox.com/dealer. In case of warranty claim, include the original printed proof of purchase and an explanation of the defect.
How to store and maintain the binoculars?
Store the binoculars in the supplied neoprene bag to protect them during transport and storage. Keep them clean and dry, avoid exposure to excessive heat. If used in a marine environment, rinse with fresh water after use to prevent salt damage. Use a slightly damp cloth for the body.
Why should you never look at the sun with binoculars?
Looking directly at the sun with binoculars can cause severe and irreversible eye damage, even blindness. Binoculars concentrate sunlight, which burns the retina. Never point the instrument at the sun, even briefly, and supervise children during use.

ADJUSTMENTS

Ideal for people wearing glasses

To ensure that people wearing glasses also have an optimal field of view MINOX binoculars are fitted with rotating eyecups.

For use without wearing glasses

Those who do not wear glasses must turn the eyecups at both eyepieces in counterclockwise direction until they engage in the extended position. The binoculars are now set at the correct distance to the eyes.

For use with glasses

Those who wear glasses must leave the rotating eyecups on both eyepieces in the original position (as delivered) or, if necessary, turn the eyecups clockwise until they noticeably engage. In this setting you can enjoy the entire field of view without disturbing interferences at the edges.

The right distance between the eyes

Look into the eyepieces of your binoculars and adjust the angle of the hinged tubes until you have a singular circular image.

FOCUSING

For a pin-sharp image, definition you must adjust the optics of the binoculars to your individual vision. To do this, please proceed as follows:

First, look at an object far away. With the right eye closed turn the focusing knob until the object in view has become perfectly sharp.
2. Next, look at the same object in the distance with the left eye closed and turn the diopter adjustment ring on the right. Even if the object is perfectly sharp,
3. Your MINOX binoculars are now set to the individual vision of both eyes.
4. To observe objects at various distances, use the focus adjustment knob to obtain a clear and sharp image.

Attention: Do not use binoculars to look into the sun, this could lead to imparable eye damage.

ATTACHING A TRIPOD

For a shoulder-free image, we recommend using a tripod, especially with binoculars with a higher magnification. The MINOX tripod adapter (order no. 80405832) is available as an optional accessory for this purpose.

Remove the screw cap (6) on the bottom of the binoculars and attach the MINOX tripod adapter into the screw socket. Keep the screw cap (6) in a safe place and reattach it after removing the tripod adapter.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

To provide as much protection as possible for your MINOX product, it is strongly recommended to use the carrying case when storing your binoculars.

Carefully remove dirt and dust from the housing with a soft moist cloth. If your binoculars have been exposed to saltwater, thoroughly rinse them off with warm water and dry carefully as saltwater can be aggressive to the lenses, detrimentally affecting their optical quality.

Contamination of the lenses by foreign bodies like sand, dust, grease, waterdrops or fingerprints reduce the image quality of your MINOX binoculars. Foreign bodies should be carefully removed using a very soft brush before cleaning the lenses. To avoid damage to the lens surfaces, it is strongly advisable to use specially developed optical cleaning materials to remove fingerprints, grease etc. from the lenses. We recommend using the MINOX optical cleaning set (order nr. 80405465).

SERIAL NUMBER

Turn the left eyecup counterclockwise to find the serial number on the underside of the ocular. It is important that you make a note of this number for the event of loss.
