Frequently Asked Questions - EM98MS MACKIE

Which devices are compatible with the EM98MS microphone?
The EM98MS microphone is compatible with smartphones (via the green TRRS cable), tablets, computers, as well as cameras and camcorders (via the black TRS cable) that have a 3.5mm jack input.
How to install the shock mount?
Slide the microphone into the provided shock mount until it is securely in place. Then, screw the mount onto your device's shoe (flash, hot shoe) by turning it by hand. Do not force.
Does the microphone require external power?
No, the EM98MS operates with plug-in power supplied by the connected device (smartphone, camera, etc.). No additional batteries are needed.
How to reduce handling and wind noise?
Use the provided shock mount to reduce vibrations and handling noise. For wind, place the foam windscreen over the microphone to attenuate external parasitic noise.
Can I use the microphone with a boom pole or stand?
Yes, the shock mount has a standard screw thread (likely 1/4 inch) that allows it to be attached to a boom pole or microphone stand. Make sure the attachment is tight.
How to clean the microphone?
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the microphone. Avoid chemicals. Clean the foam windscreen regularly by removing it and washing it in warm soapy water if necessary. Let it dry completely before replacing.
What is the warranty period and how to activate it?
The warranty is a limited warranty. Check www.mackie.com for details and exact duration. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase. Contact Mackie technical support at 1-800-898-3211 for any inquiries.
Does the microphone work with a USB-C or Lightning adapter?
Yes, if your device does not have a 3.5mm jack, you can use a USB-C to jack or Lightning to jack adapter (not included) to connect the microphone's TRRS cable.
What are the signs of a malfunction?
If the sound is low, absent, or noisy, first check the cable connection and the device's plug-in power. Test with another cable or device. If the problem persists, contact Mackie technical support.
Can I use the microphone outdoors?
Yes, but protect it from rain and excessive humidity. The windscreen reduces wind noise but does not provide water protection. Store it in a case after use.
