Frequently Asked Questions - Flex Fluval

Where to place the Fluval Flex aquarium?
Place the aquarium on a stand designed to support its weight (over 135 kg when filled), away from heat sources, direct sunlight and drafts. Use the provided non-slip mat and check the level.
What type of water to use in the Flex?
This aquarium is designed for freshwater only. Never use seawater. Treat tap water with a conditioner like Fluval Water Conditioner before adding it.
How to install the LED Aquasky Bluetooth light strip?
Secure the light strip firmly onto the cover using the mounting brackets. Connect it to the low voltage transformer. For Bluetooth setup, refer to the separate Aquasky manual.
How often to change the aquarium water?
It is recommended to change 20% of the water each week. Use water at a similar temperature and treat it with a conditioner.
How to maintain the Fluval Flex filter?
Rinse the filter foam every 4-6 weeks with aquarium water (not tap water). Replace the activated carbon every 2-4 weeks and the Biomax filter media every 2-3 months. Clean the impeller every 3-6 months.
What to do if the LED light strip does not turn on?
First check that the transformer is plugged in and the plug is not wet. If the light strip has fallen into water, unplug it immediately without touching it, then dry it completely before reusing.
Can I add accessories like a heater or CO2?
Yes, but make sure the additional devices are suitable for a 123 L aquarium. Follow safety instructions: use a drip loop and do not overload the power outlet.
How to clean the glass tank?
Use a damp cloth with fresh water only. Never use soap or detergent, they are toxic to fish. For algae, use a magnetic scraper.
What replacement parts are available?
Fluval offers replacement parts: filter foam (A1375), Biomax (A1378), carbon (A1379), LED light strip (14549), pump (A14780), black cover (A14784) or white (A14785), impeller (A14782), non-slip mat (A14800) and glass tank (A14796 black, A14797 white).
What does the 2-year warranty cover?
The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for two years from the date of purchase, upon presentation of proof of purchase. It does not cover glass breakage, normal wear, incorrect installation or commercial use.

It should not be plugged in if water is present on parts not intended to be wet.

B. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug getting wet, position the tank to the side of a wall mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle. A "drip loop", should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium device to the receptacle. The "drip loop" is the part of the cord below the level of the receptacle or the connector if an extension cord is in use, to prevent the water from travelling along the cord and coming into contact with the receptacle. If plug or receptacle gets wet, DO NOT un-plug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the receptacle then unplug the transformer and examine for the presence of water in the rec

Installing your Aquarium

  1. Carefully remove all components from packaging, verifying that every piece is accounted for and undamaged. Refer to components list.
  2. Thoroughly clean the interior and exterior of the aquarium using a cloth dampened with fresh water. IMPORTANT: NEVER USE SOAP OR DETERGENTS to clean items placed inside the aquarium as they can be harmful to fish and their environment.

3.AQUARIUM PLACEMENT

IMPORTANT: The Flex aquarium can weigh in excess of 135 kg (300 lbs) once decorated and filled, therefore, please ensure the aquarium is placed on a specifically designed aquarium cabinet or stand. Carefully position the anti-slip pad underneath the aquarium. Locate the aquarium and stand on a level, sturdy surface and away from any electrical equipment, direct sunlight, drafts, heat sources or high traffic areas. Do not place the aquarium where water spills will cause damage.

  • Please ensure the cabinet or stand is sized to that of the aquarium and that it is designed to handle the weight of a completely filled aquarium. Using a cabinet or stand not sized to that of the aquarium, or articles of furniture and self-assembly furniture not designed for aquarium use will cause an unsafe condition.
  • Please do not place anything other than the anti-slip pad underneath the aquarium. There should be no additional support or damper in between the aquarium and the cabinet. Use a level to ensure that the aquarium is perfectly level on the cabinet.
