Usage
Before initial use
Warning: Before commencing with fishing inform yourself with regard to national and local regulations. These instructions describe the current information on the item.
Fishing is a very versatile sport. Therefore, we recommend that you read additional expert literature and/or gather information from clubs and organisations.
Assembling the fishing rod
Even if the angling set is assembled ready for fishing, you must still check the following points with regard to its assembly before its initial use. This ensures safe functioning of the rod and reel.
- The castor heel (1c) must be inserted into the reel brackets (1a) and the screw fastener (1b) must be tightened clock-wise.
- Put the crank (1g) into the required position by folding it up. Ensure that the opposite crank screw (1f) is tight.
- Loosen the brake (1h) by turning it anti-clockwise. Pull enough fishing line (1j) from the reel (1e) and guide it under the line guide bracket (1d) through all the rod rings. Tighten the brake again by turning it clock-wise.
- Pull the rod out, segment for segment, starting at the top (see Fig. C).
- Ensure that the rings of each segment are aligned (see Fig. D).
Casting bait with an over-the-head throw
Ensure that the crank screw (1i) is tight. Grip the rod by the handle, ensuring that the castor wheel is between your middle and ring fingers.
Your pointing finger grips the fishing line when the roller lever is still closed, and holds it against the fishing rod by keeping it down. Open the line guide bracket and guide the fishing rod past the head, sideways, to the rear - your free hand grips the end of the rod handle in this manoeuvre, giving you additional stability and control.
The fishing line, together with the bait, should not twist, and the distance between the bait/lead and top end of the fishing rod should be sufficient to enable an elegant swing.
Visualise your end point in the water, and swing the fishing rod forward, with an even movement forward, steadily increasing in speed. Your pointing finger releases the fishing line the moment the top end of the fishing rod points to your end point.
When your bait hits the water, i.e. once it's reached the desired depth, lock the line guide bracket.
Intended use/Tips for successful fishing
The fly and cast fishing set was developed for light lure and cast fishing in lakes, ponds, and rivers.
With its maximum casting weight of 40g it's particularly suitable for trout and bass fishing. The reel is wound with a mono-filament fishing line, with a 0.22mm diameter, with a maximum load of 3.0kg. In practice, however, much heavier fish have been landed with this fishing line.
The fishing set has been pre-assembled with a spinner specifically for trout and bass fishing. Throw out the bait, let it sink for a moment, and then reel in evenly, so that the spinner starts to rotate, imitating a bait-fish.
Try to find good fishing sports (so-called hot-spots) where trout and bass, as well as bait-fish, like to frequent.
Good areas, especially in spring and autumn, are around branches or reed belts in the water, the so-called "troughs". Often oval in shape, these are deep recesses on the bottom of the body of water, caused by special currents, objects or by the natural flow of the river. Even if the spinning rod is very flexible and bendy, which cushions the strong pulling of escaping fish, the brake must be set in such a way that a slight left turn of the knob enables the fish to slowly pull line from the reel, with medium to strong pulling, when the line guide bracket is locked off. By doing this, loss of the bait is prevented, or even a line-break, while landing the fish.
Ethical behaviour
Your enjoyment of fishing should also be dictated by respect for fish and nature. In addition to the national and local regulations, please keep in mind some important basic rules for fishing.
- Ensure that you have all necessary fishing accessories for landing fish safely with you, to remove the fish-hook gently, so you can release the fish or to kill it ethically. For many fishing styles, this especially includes landing nets, measuring tape, stunning device, knife, disgorger, fish-hook remover or fisher's pliers.
- Do not drag caught fish along the ground or in the sand, as this can easily lead to injuries of the sensitive mucous membrane. Always handle the catch with wet hands for this reason.
- Release under-size fish, and fish in spawn, gently.
- Fish for eating must be stunned properly and killed humanely with a knife.
- Even if the fish are biting ubiquitously, do not over-do it and do not catch more fish than is really necessary.
• Always leave the fishing spot in the same state as you would like to find it.
