Caution: Find out about national laws and local regulations before fishing. These instructions describe the most important notes on the article.
Angling is a very varied sport. We therefore recommend reading additional specialist literature on the subject and/or getting advice from clubs and associations.
Assembling the fishing rod
Even if this angling set is already assembled, you must still check the following assembly points prior to first use in order to ensure safe interaction between the rod and the reel.
-
The reel foot (1C) must be inserted in the reel holders (1A) and the screw lock (1B) is fixed in a clockwise direction.
-
Bring the crank (1G) to the desired position by releasing the opposite crank fixing bolt (1F) in an anti-clockwise direction and then tightening it again once the corresponding position is reached. Insert the individual segments of the fishing rod into one another so that the joints are fixed securely. Make sure that the rings in the individual segments are aligned (see figure C).
-
Release the brake (1H) by turning it anticlockwise. Pull sufficient fishing line (1J) from the reel spool (1E) and feed it under the bail arm (1D) through all the rings on the rod. Re-tighten the brake by turning it in a clockwise direction.
Deliver the bait with an overhead cast
Make sure that the non-return device (11) is engaged. Grip the rod by the handset, whereby the reel foot must be between your middle and ring fingers.
Your index finger holds the fishing line while the operating lever is closed and presses it down onto the fishing rod. Open the bail arm and guide the rod backwards past the side of your head: your free hand is holding the grip end of the fishing rod, thus giving additional stability and control.
The fishing rod with the bait should no longer swing and the distance between the bait/ground weight and the tip of the rod should be sufficient to produce a harmonious swing.
Look at the place in the water you wish to cast to and swing the fishing rod forwards with steadily increasing speed. Your index finger should release the fishing line at the moment when the tip of the fishing rod is pointing to the target point. Close the bail arm when the bait touches the water or it reaches the desired water depth.
Correct use / Tips for successful angling
The spinning set was developed for moderately heavy spin fishing in lakes, ponds, rivers, and the sea.
With a maximum lead weight of 50g it is particularly suited for angling pike and zander in fresh water. But you can also enjoy using this set for spin fishing for cod and sea trout in salt water.
The reel is equipped with a monofilament fishing line with a diameter of 0.30mm and the maximum load capacity has been calculated at 6kg. In practice, however, it has been shown that substantially heavier fish can often be landed safely.
The angling set is pre-assembled with a metal leader and a spinner especially for pike fishing. Cast the bait, allow it to sink briefly, and then begin smooth reeling so that the spinner starts rotating thus imitates a prey fish.
Always fish in promising areas (so-called 'hotspots') of water where the pike can find protection and prey fish.
These hotspots are tree trunks or reed belts in the water in spring and autumn, in troughs in flowing water, that are often oval, deep depressions on the bed, created by specific currents, upstream obstacles or the natural course of the river. Even though the spinning rod has very soft bending properties that can withstand violent bites by fish as much as possible, the brake on the reel must be turned slightly to the left on the knob so that you are able to pull line slowly from the spool at moderate tensile force with the bail arm closed. This prevents the bait from tearing off or even the line from breaking during play.
Sportsmanlike conduct
While enjoying your angling please remain respectful of the fish and of nature. You must observe some important basic rules of angling alongside the national laws and local regulations.
- Bring the necessary fishing accessories with you in order to safely land the fish, gently remove the fishing hook, and throw the fish back, or kill it quickly and in accordance with hunting principles. The particular items of equipment for this are, for many types of angling, a landing net, measuring tape, a stunning device, knife, protection spreader, disgorger, and fishing pliers.
- Do not pull the caught fish above the ground or through the sand on the fishing line as such quickly leads to injury to the sensitive mucous membranes. This is why you must always hold the fish with wet hands.
- Gently return undersized fish and fish that are in the spawning phase.
- Fish that are taken for consumption must be professionally stunned immediately and killed with a knife thrust.
Even if you have an hour of glory' at the waterside and the fish are biting well do not be over indulgent and do not take more fish than is really necessary. - Always leave the fishing location as clean as you would like to find it.
