Frequently Asked Questions - AJYP100 Aqua Joe

How to replace the batteries?
Turn the detection mode dial to OPEN to access the battery compartment under the sensor housing. Insert the 4 included AAA Ni-MH batteries. Use only Ni-MH rechargeable batteries to ensure recharging by the solar panel.
What is the maximum detection range and how to adjust it?
The maximum detection range is 12 meters. Use the detection/watering mode selector dial to choose from the options: Large (3-5 m), Large/Medium (8-10 m), or All (10-12 m). Do a dry test without water to hear the click.
Can I use the sprinkler without the sensor, like a regular sprinkler?
Yes, set the automatic watering timer to 10, 20, or 30 minutes. The sprinkler will stop automatically after the selected duration. You can also disable the sensor in Always On mode.
How to adjust the rotation angle and spray range?
For the angle, position the angle adjustment lever and tighten the friction collars to set an angle between 0° and 300°. For full 360° rotation, raise the lever completely. For the range, raise the deflector screen and turn the range control knob clockwise to increase distance, counterclockwise to decrease.
What to do in case of freezing?
Before winter or when the temperature drops below 0°C, completely drain the water from the sprinkler and hose to prevent damage from freezing water expansion. Store the unit frost-free.
How to connect multiple sprinklers in series?
Remove the retaining cap on the sprinkler connector. Connect the sprinklers together with a standard garden hose. This allows you to cover a larger area.
Why is my sprinkler not detecting movement?
Check that the batteries are properly installed and charged. Make sure the detection mode is set to a position other than OFF. Avoid pointing the sensor at moving objects (trees, curtains) or windy areas. The sensor may reduce sensitivity after 5 minutes to save battery; wave your hand in front within 10 m to test.
What water pressure is recommended?
The maximum pressure is 100 psi (7 bar). If the pressure is higher, install a pressure regulator on the faucet. Partially opening the faucet does not reduce pressure. To avoid damage, use a good quality hose and ensure adequate drainage.
How to clean the sprinkler?
Clean the housing and sensor regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive products. Before cleaning, turn off the device and remove the batteries if necessary.
Where to find replacement parts?
Contact Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® customer service at 1-866-SNOWJOE (1-866-766-9563) or visit snowjoe.com. Use only identical replacement parts to maintain safety and warranty.

Assembly

No Tools Required

  1. Set the detection mode to Open the battery cover (located under the sensor housing), then snap the battery case onto the battery clip connector (Fig. 1).

WARNING! Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek

medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

WARNING! Do not use a battery pack or appliance that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.

WARNING! Do not expose a

battery pack or appliance to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 265^ may cause explosion.

  1. Run a dry test by turning the detection

mode to and wave your hand in front of the sensor lens. You should clearly hear the internal water valve click open, then click closed 3 seconds later.

If this does not work, try a new battery. The sprinkler resets 8 seconds after the valve closes if the sensor does not detect any further motion.

  1. Follow (Fig. 2) to assemble your pest deterrent sprinkler. These fittings should only be hand tightened. No tools are required.

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - No Tools Required - 2

  1. Connect your standard garden hose to the hose-end connector, or use a quickconnect hose with the provided quick connector instead (Fig. 3). Then aim the sensor lens towards the area you wish to protect.

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - No Tools Required - 3

  1. Drive the step spike into soft terrain such as soil, gravel or sand by putting your body weight onto the foot pedal.

FRAGILE! Do not push down on the sensor housing or sprinkler head. If the ground is too hard or unsuitable for the ABS plastic step spike, try placing the sprinkler in a flower pot filled with a weighted material like sand or gravel.

Daisy-Chaining

If you have more than one pest deterrent sprinkler you can daisy-chain them up in series by removing the flow-through cap and connecting them together with a hose (Fig. 4).

  1. Set the desired detection mode using the Detection + sprinkler mode dial (Fig. 6) based on the chart below.

Mode Distance Animals

10 - 16 ft. (3 - 5 m) Large
26 - 33 ft. (8 - 10 m) Large/Medium
33 - 39 ft. (10 - 12 m) All

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Detection Modes - 1

  1. The pest deterrent sprinkler has a field of view of 120^ . Position the motion sensor lens based on your desired coverage area (Fig. 7).

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Detection Modes - 2

Sprinkler Modes

To use your pest deterrent sprinkler as a regular sprinkler you can set 10/20/30 minute auto-spray timers, after which it will stop (Fig. 6).

Activation Modes

The pest deterrent sprinkler has 4 activation modes: - Off, - Always on, Day time and - Night time (Fig. 8).

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Activation Modes - 1

NOTE: The pest deterrent sprinkler automatically reduces it's sensitivity after 5 minutes in order to preserve battery life. To minimize false triggers, avoid pointing it towards moving objects, windy areas or very large areas.

Water Coverage

NOTE: Turn the water on and test from behind unless you want to get wet!

After setting up and positioning your pest deterrent sprinkler you may wish to adjust the rotation, distance and arc of the sprinkler.

  1. Position the trip lever towards the area you wish to protect. Turn the friction collars on either side of the trip lever to control the sprinkler's angle of rotation, between 0^ - 300^ (Fig. 9).

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Water Coverage - 1

  1. Flip the trip lever up out of the way of the friction collars to achieve full 360^ rotation (Fig. 10).

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Water Coverage - 2

  1. To increase the sprinkler's spray distance, raise the deflector shield and turn the distance control knob clockwise simultaneously. To decrease spray distance, lower the deflector shield and turn the distance control knob counter-clockwise simultaneously (Fig. 11).
  2. To vary the spray pattern, turn the diffuser screw clockwise to adjust the spray from narrow jet to wide mist and vise versa (Fig. 11).

Aqua Joe AJYP100 - Water Coverage - 3

NOTE: The spray distance will depend heavily on your water pressure. Do not exceed this product's maximum rated pressure of 100 PSI.

Watering Tips

Water only when necessary, preferably in the morning to minimize water loss through evaporation.

CAUTION! Poor placement or malfunctioning sprinklers carry a risk of causing water damage to your property. Mitigate risks by limiting the amount of water available to the product (open valve 3/4), use good quality hoses and ensuring there is adequate drainage in the area. Install a pressure reducing valve on your tap if your water pressure exceeds 100 PSI. Partially opening your tap does NOT change the water pressure.

Maintenance

Since water expands when it freezes, completely drain water from your sprinkler and hose to avoid damage if temperature falls below 32^ F (0^ C).

CAUTION! Have servicing performed by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the product is maintained.

CAUTION! Do not modify or attempt to repair the appliance or the battery pack (as applicable) except as indicated in the instructions for use and care.
