How to set the temperature?

Use the continuous thermostat (scale from 1 to 12). The plate heats at full power until it reaches the desired temperature, then the thermostat maintains the temperature. The indicator light is on during heating phase.

No, always supervise the appliance while it is on, especially when cooking with oil or fat (risk of fire).

What to do if the power cord is damaged?

Intended use

The appliance is designed to be used in the household and similar areas, like for example:

• in staff kitchens, shops, offices and other small commercial areas,
• in agricultural holdings,
• by guests in hotels, motels, bed & breakfast and further similar living environments.

Other uses or modifications of the appliance are not intended and may constitute considerable risks of accident. For damage arising from any improper use, the manufacturer does not assume liability.

The appliance is designed for warming, heating and preparing food. The appliance is not intended for commercial use.

The models THL 2597/A, THL 2297/A and THL 3097/A are provided with a cover, which can be removed for cleaning. The models THL 2597 and THL 2297 can be retrofitted with a cover. If required, please contact your local dealer.

General safety advices:

• Always keep children under 8 away from the product and the power cord.
• Cleaning and maintenance by the user must not be carried out by children unless they are 8 years of age or older and are supervised.
• These appliances can be used by children aged 8 years and above and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and/or knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children should be supervised to ensure that they use the appliance safely.
• Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
  • Children must not play with the device.
• Packing material like e. g. foil bags should be kept away from children.
• Do not at all operate this unit with an external timer or a separate telecontrol system.
• Prior to each use, check the appliance and the accessories for soundness. It must not be operated if it has been dropped or shows visible damage. In these cases, the power supply must be disconnected and the appliance has to be checked by a specialist.
• When laying the power cord, make sure that nobody can get entangled or stumble over it so that accidentally pulling the appliance down can be avoided.
• Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces, sharp edges and mechanical forces. Check the power cord regularly for damage and deteriorations.

Safety advices for using the appliance:

Casing surfaces and heating plates become hot during use and fi rstly stay hot after switch-off!

Thus, act with caution:

• We recommend using pot cloths and appropriate cooking utensils!
• Do not use the appliance's upper side as depositing rack or working top as it will get hot when operating the appliance! As protection against fi re, do generally not put objects made of paper, plastic, fabric or other infl ammable material on hot surfaces!
• Only use suitable pots or pans with sound, even bottom and appropriate diameter (also fi re-proof glass or porcelain). If the pot bottom is uneven or too small, you will waste energy. The heating plate and the pot bottom must always be clean and dry.
• Do not use cooking vessels made of plastic, inferior enamel, porcelain or aluminium foil.
• Attention! Hazard of fire! Overheated fats and oils can inflame. Therefore, food containing fats and oils may only be prepared under supervision!
• Never splash cold water on the hot heating plate!
• Appliance and accessories must have cooled completely before cleaning or moving them!
• The cover can be removed for cleaning. Please ensure that he cover will only be closed when the appliance is switched off and the heating plates have cooled down.
• Observe the following when setting up the appliance:

o Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, stable and even surface (no varni-shed surfaces, no table cloths etc.).
o Place it beyond children's reach.
o Leave an appropriate ventilation distance to all sides to avoid damage by heat or fat splatters and to grant an unobstructed work area. Unhindered air supply has to be ensured.

o Do not operate the appliance in the vicinity of sources of heat (oven, gas flame etc.) or in explosive environments, where inflammable liquids or gases are located.

• Attention! Hazard of fire! This appliance is not qualified for installation.
• Do not use the appliance as space heater.

ATTENTION: Pull the power plug after each use for safe switch-off.

Operating the appliance

• Before the first use, heat up each heating plate without a pot for approximately 5 minutes at maximum temperature. Thus, the plate coating gets its optimal protection effect. Please disregard the temporary formation of harmless smoke.
• The cooking plates are equipped with a thermostatic system that allows a continuous fine adjustment.
• Your cooking plate always heats up with the full power until the temperature is reached, which corresponds to the selected setting. Through the whole heating period the pilot lamp glows up. It turns off as soon as the adjusted temperature is reached. By the time the heating plate heats again to maintain the adjusted temperature, the pilot lamp glows up again. This illumination/extinction repeats consistently.
• After a while you will certainly find the applicable settings for your dishes. Then readjustment is not necessary anymore. The following scale is suitable for orientation:

Switch off your appliance in time, and use the residual heat stored in the heating plates for keeping dishes warm.

Test procedure

The product was tested according to the test standard DIN EN 60350-2: Household electric cooking appliances – Part 2: Hobs – Methods for measuring performance.

User information – Saving energy and resources – Tips for energy saving:

• Both, cooking zone and pot bottom must be clean and free of residues, in order to guarantee best the possible heat transfer.
• Always place the cookware on the cooking zone before switching the appliance on.
• Position the cookware in the middle of the cooking zone.
• The bottom of the cookware and the cooking zone should be about the same size.
• Using cookware with a too small diameter you will waste energy.
• When heating water, only heat the amount you actually require.
• During cooking, it is recommended to cover the cookware with a lid, if possible.
• Switch off the cooking zone in time and use the residual heat for keeping warm, melting, etc.

Disposal/recycling

Packaging material

Do not simply throw the packaging material away but recycle it. Deliver paper, cardboard and corrugated cardboard to waste paper collection points. Also put plastic packaging material and foils into the specific collection containers.

The printed or embossed markings indicate the materials which were used: PE stands for polyethylene (code 02 means high-density PE, 04 stands for low-density PE), PS stands for polystyrene and CPE for chlorinated polyethylene. PAP 20 means corrugated cardboard and PAP 21 other cardboard.

All plastics are thermoplastics which are very easy and efficient to produce. They are also very easy to recycle and therefore can even have a smaller ecological footprint than comparable cardboard packaging.

Disposal information

According to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (2012/19/EU), this product may not be disposed of with other household waste at the end of its service life. Therefore please submit it e.g. at a municipal collection point (e.g. recycling center) according to the laws of your country of residence for the recycling of electrical and electronic appliances. Your municipality or city administration will inform you about the disposal options.
