How to use the toaster for the first time?

Unpack the appliance and remove all packaging. Place it on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Set the browning level to 3 or 4. Insert one or two slices of bread, lower the lever and wait for the toast. A slight odor may occur during first use, this is normal.

How to clean the toaster?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool completely. Remove the crumb tray by sliding it out, empty and clean it. Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth dampened with soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners and never immerse the appliance in water.

What to do if bread gets stuck in the toaster?

Unplug the appliance immediately and let it cool. Never use metal utensils to remove the bread. Gently turn the toaster upside down to dislodge crumbs or use wooden tongs.

How to use the defrost function?

Insert frozen bread into the slots, lower the lever, then press the Frozen Bread button. The toasting cycle will be adapted to defrost and toast the bread simultaneously.

What is the Bagel function for?

The Bagel function warms the outer crust and toasts the cut side of bagels or English muffins. Insert the bagel cut side facing inward, lower the lever and press the Bagel button.

How to stop the toaster during operation?

Press the Cancel button to immediately interrupt the toasting cycle. The lever will automatically rise.

What are the important safety precautions?

Do not touch hot surfaces, use handles. Never immerse the appliance, cord or plug in water. Supervise when used by children. Unplug after use and before cleaning. Do not use outdoors.

Why does my toaster emit an odor on first use?

This is due to the evaporation of light manufacturing oils. It is a normal phenomenon that disappears after the first use and does not affect the taste of the toast.

What is the length of the power cord and can I use an extension cord?

The cord is short to avoid tangling hazards. You can use an extension cord, but it must have a power rating at least equal to that of the appliance and be arranged so that it does not drape over the table.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:

1. Read all instructions.

3. To protect against electrical hazards, DO NOT immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.

5. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
6. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
7. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the manufacturer for examination, repair or adjustment. All servicing, other than cleaning, should be performed by an authorized service representative. See Warranty section.

4. A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls and the like, when in operation.
5. DO NOT attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
6. DO NOT place any bread or object on top of the toaster. This will block airflow and cause fire or damage to the toaster.

GROUNDED PLUG

To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug [2 blades and 1 pin]. If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or use an adaptor.

HOW TO USE

BEFORE FIRST USE

Unpack the toaster and remove all packaging materials etc.

• Place the toaster on a suitable, level, heat resistant surface. Set the browning dial to 3 or 4.
• Place one or two slices of bread into the toaster slots.
• Press down the carriage lever. NOTE: The carriage lever will only stay down if the product is connected to the electricity supply. The toast will pop up when it is ready

THINGS TO NOTE:

On first use, you may notice a slight odour. This is caused by the evaporation of light oils used in manufacture. This only occurs on the first use and does not affect the taste of your toast.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

The Defrost bread setting is perfect for defrosting and toasting frozen bread. To use this function, press the carriage lever down then press the Frozen Bread button.

The Bagel setting warms the outside crust and browns the cut side of the bagel, English muffin, etc.

The Cancel function interrupts the toasting process in any mode

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

ALWAYS ENSURE THE PRODUCT IS UNPLUGGED AND COMPLETELY COOL BEFORE CLEANING.

• This product requires very little maintenance.
• The toaster is equipped with a crumb tray which slides out from the bottom of the toaster. This should be removed and the crumbs discarded after each use. Excessive build up of crumbs can cause an unpleasant odour and - in extreme cases - pose a fire hazard.
• For cleaning external surfaces, a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution is all that is required.

POWER CORD

A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be va grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

Salton Canada warrants that this appliance shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of original purchase. Salton Canada, at its sole discretion during this warranty period, will repair or replace a defective product or issue a refund. Any refund to the purchaser will be at a pro-rated value based on the remaining period of the warranty. All liability is limited to the amount of the purchase price. This warranty covers normal domestic usage and does not cover damage which occurs in shipment or failure which results from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, glass breakage, neglect, improper maintenance, use contrary to the operating instructions or commercial use. This warranty is not available to retailers or other commercial purchasers or owners.
