How to use the defrost function?

Lower the push-down lever, then press the Frozen Bread button. The toaster defrosts and toasts frozen bread automatically.

How to clean the toaster?

Unplug and let cool. Slide out the crumb tray and empty it. Clean the exterior with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent. Never immerse the appliance in water.

What to do if the lever does not stay down?

Check that the appliance is plugged in. The lever only stays down when the appliance is powered. If the problem persists, contact customer service.

Can I use an extension cord?

Yes, provided it has a power rating at least equal to that of the appliance and is a 3-wire type (grounded). Arrange it to avoid tripping hazards.

How to use the Bagel function?

Lower the lever, then press the Bagel button. This function warms the outer crust and toasts the cut side of bagels or English muffins.

What to do if the bread burns?

Use the Cancel button to immediately stop toasting. Adjust the browning level to a lower setting for future toasts.

How to empty the crumb tray?

Make sure the appliance is unplugged and cool. Slide out the tray under the toaster to remove it, empty the crumbs, then replace it. Clean it after each use.

Can I toast foods other than bread?

Yes, but avoid oversized foods, metal packaging, or utensils. Never toast foods covered with flammable material. Use only for foods suitable for toasters.

Why does an odor occur during first use?

A slight odor is normal during first use. It is due to the evaporation of light manufacturing oils. It dissipates quickly and does not affect the taste of toast.

What is the warranty on this appliance?

Salton Canada warrants the product against defects in materials and workmanship for 2 years from the date of purchase. Keep the original purchase receipt as proof.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:

1. Read all instructions.
2. DO NOT touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
3. To protect against electrical hazards, DO NOT immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance
5. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
6. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
7. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the manufacturer for examination, repair or adjustment. All servicing, other than cleaning, should be performed by an authorized service representative. See Warranty section.

3. Oversize foods, metal foil packages, or utensils must not be inserted in a toaster as they may involve a risk of fire or electric shock.
4. A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls and the like, when in operation.
5. DO NOT attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
6. DO NOT place any bread or object on top of the toaster. This will block airflow and cause fire or damage to the toaster.

GROUNDED PLUG

To reduce the risk of electric shock this appliance has a grounded plug (2 blades and 1 pin). If the plug does not fit fully into the electrical outlet contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way or use an adaptor.

HOW TO USE

BEFORE FIRST USE

Unpack the toaster and remove all packaging materials etc.

• Place the toaster on a suitable, level, heat resistant surface. Set the browning dial to 3 or 4.
• Place one or two slices of bread into the toaster slots.
• Press down the carriage lever. NOTE: The carriage lever will only stay down if the product is connected to the electricity supply. The toast will pop up when it is ready

THINGS TO NOTE:

On first use, you may notice a slight odour. This is caused by the evaporation of light oils used in manufacture. This only occurs on the first use and does not affect the taste of your toast.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

The Defrost bread setting is perfect for defrosting and toasting frozen bread. To use this function, press the carriage lever down then press the Frozen Bread button.

The Bagel setting warms the outside crust and browns the cut side of the bagel, English muffin, etc.

The Cancel function interrupts the toasting process in any mode

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

ALWAYS ENSURE THE PRODUCT IS UNPLUGGED AND COMPLETELY COOL BEFORE CLEANING.

• This product requires very little maintenance.
• The toaster is equipped with a crumb tray which slides out from the bottom of the toaster. This should be removed and the crumbs discarded after each use. Excessive build up of crumbs can cause an unpleasant odour and - in extreme cases - pose a fire hazard.
• For cleaning external surfaces, a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution is all that is required.

POWER CORD

A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be va grounded 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

Salton Canada warrants that this appliance shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of original purchase. Salton Canada, at its sole discretion during this warranty period, will repair or replace a defective product or issue a refund. Any refund to the purchaser will be at a pro-rated value based on the remaining period of the warranty. All liability is limited to the amount of the purchase price. This warranty covers normal domestic usage and does not cover damage which occurs in shipment or failure which results from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, glass breakage, neglect, improper maintenance, use contrary to the operating instructions or commercial use. This warranty is not available to retailers or other commercial purchasers or owners.
