Frequently Asked Questions - HEK4535U Atag

How to install the Atag HEK4535U hob?
Installation must be carried out by a recognized installer. Cut an opening to the specified dimensions (minimum worktop thickness: 28 mm). Insert the hob and secure it using the brackets. Connect to a 230 V~ 50 Hz power supply with an H05RR-F 5G1.5 mm² cable. Check the operation.
What types of pans to use?
Use pans with a solid, flat bottom, slightly larger than the cooking zone. The bottom must be dry. Avoid pans that are too small to prevent overheating and deformation of the hob.
How to clean the heating elements?
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth or paper towel. For burnt residues, use a blunt knife or a synthetic sponge (Scotch Brite). Occasionally grease with a special product (Collo Elektrol) or a drop of sewing machine oil.
What to do if a cooking zone does not heat up?
Check that the plug is properly connected and that the fuses in the panel are not defective. If the problem persists, contact the supplier or Atag customer service, providing the appliance type number.
How to use the control knobs?
The knobs turn left or right. Position 0 is off. 1 to 3: keep warm and simmer; 3-4: continue cooking; 4-6: boil; 6-8: sear and fry; 8-12: roast at high heat.
Why does the hob emit an odor during first use?
During first use, it is normal for an unpleasant odor to be emitted. To remove it, heat all zones at maximum power for 3 minutes without a pan. This burns off the protective anti-rust coating.
How to clean the stainless steel tray?
For stubborn stains, use a liquid abrasive or a non-abrasive scouring sponge (white). For stainless steel, a specific detergent (3M) is recommended. Do not scrub with abrasive green sponges to avoid scratches.
What is the total power of the appliance?
The total power of the Atag HEK4535U hob is 6000 W, distributed over 4 zones: two normal (1500 W and 1000 W) and two rapid (1500 W and 2000 W).
Can I use cast iron utensils?
Yes, provided the bottom is flat and solid. Avoid sliding utensils across the hob to prevent scratching the surface.
How to know which zone is on?
An indicator light on the control panel lights up to show which cooking zone is active. This allows you to visually check the zones in operation.

Heat conduction will make the base plate warm. This will not damage the counter top, but you must keep it in mind, in particular in reference to small children.

INDICATOR

The indicator in the operating panel shows which cooking plate is switched on.

TIPS

Cook with covers on the pans: this is quicker and less expensive. The cooking plate remains warm for some time after it has been switched off. Make use of this extra heat in preparing your meals.

WRONG RIGHT

PANS

For proper heat conduction, it is important that:

  • The pan has a solid, flat bottom.
  • The bottom of the pan is dry.
Moisture on the cooking plate may cause rust.
  • The diameter of the pan is slightly larger than the diameter of the cooking plate.

Atag HEK4535U - PANS - 1

Pans that are too small result in uneven distribution of the heat through the cooking plate. As a result, the plate may become distorted or may even break. What is more: if a pan boils over, it will spill onto the cooking plate.

MAINTENANCE

Remove spills as quickly as possible. Spills caused by boiling over of dishes such as red cabbage, rhubarb and apple sauce in particular must be removed immediately. If they remain on the enamel or stainless steel surface for too long, the surface may discolour.

ELEMENTS

Wiping clean with paper towelling or with a slightly damp cloth is normally sufficient. Spills and burned food can be removed with the dull edge of a knife or with a synthetic scouring pad (Scotch Brite).

Occasionally lubricate the element with a lubricant for electric hobs

(Collo Elektrol). Or use a drop of (sewing machine) oil. Do not over-lubricate the elements, as this will make them sticky and will result in unpleasant odours.

The stainless steel edge of the element must never be cleaned with a scouring agent. Use only a (liquid) cleanser. After cleaning remove all cleanser remnants, in particular from the space between the cast iron element and the stainless steel edge. After cleaning, always remove any cleanser remnants, then briefly switch on the element to allow all moisture to evaporate.

BASE PLATE

Tough spots on the enamel base plate can be removed with a liquid scouring agent or with a synthetic scouring pad.

Tough spots on stainless steel models can be removed with 3M stainless steel cleanser (available at hardware stores) or with a nonscouring sanitary sponge (these have a white scouring surface, e.g. Scotch Brite no. 373. Green scouring pads contain scouring agents that may cause scratches). The stainless steel has a specific structure. Scouring or polishing will cause (shiny) spots in the surface.

TROUBLESHOOTING

In case of a malfunction, check first whether you can remedy it yourself. If not, contact your supplier. If the supplier is unable to help, call or write us. We will be happy to assist you.

Always describe the complaint as completely as possible and always indicate the appliance type number.
