1. Press the release button on the seatbelt buckle, and

take the belt off the child.

It has been approved according to ECE R44/04 standards, and is suitable for use in most, although not all, vehicle seats.

2. Check the vehicle handbook provided by the

manufacturer. If this states that the model is suitable for use with “universal” child restraints for the correct age group, the seat can be safely installed.

3. This child restraint has undergone strict testing

to “universal” standards. These tests are more demanding than those undergone by previous models that did not feature this label.

4. If in any doubt whatsoever, please contact the child

restraint manufacturer or the dealer. CAUTION! Only suitable for vehicles fi tted with three-point/ retractor seatbelts, approved to ECE R16 or comparable standards. The TAKATA MAXI child car seat has been tested and approved according to the ECE R44/04 European standard for child restraint systems. NOTE! “Universal” classifi cation only applies to the TAKATA MAXI when it is secured solely via the three-point seatbelt (without attaching the connection arms to the vehicle’s ISOFIX points). NOTE! When the TAKATA MAXI is secured via the three- point seatbelt and the connection arms and ISOFIX points, it is classifi ed as “semi-universal”. This mechanism is only suitable for certain seats in certain vehicles. The vehicle list supplied provides an overview of all suitable vehicles and seats at the time of going to print. For an updated list, please see our website, www.takata-childseats.com. CAUTION! Please note that ECE R44/04 certifi cation ceases to apply if any changes are made to the TAKATA MAXI without approval from TAKATA AG. The certifi cation sticker, featuring a symbol (the letter E in a circle) and certifi cation number, is found on the bottom of the TAKATA MAXI seat base [ECE]. CLASS 2/3 WEIGHT 15 - 36 kg AGE approx. 3 – 12 NOTE! The ages stated here are intended as a guide only. The TAKATA MAXI may only be used in a forward-facing position. Against the direction of travel WARNING NOTES: [MAXI_004] Never leave your child unattended in the vehicle. [MAXI_005] Always seat your child in the TAKATA MAXI before the start of your journey – never during travel. Never remove your child from the seat while the vehicle is in motion. [MAXI_006 + MAXI_007] Check that the seatbelt has not become twisted, and that it lies snug to the shoulders and lap, when fastening your child into the seat. [MAXI_008] Ensure that the shoulder belt does not run directly across your child’s neck, to minimize the risk of neck injuries. Adjust the height of the shoulder belt so that it runs between the neck and the edge of the shoulder. Position the lap belt over your child’s thighs to protect the lower part of the body. If the lap belt runs across your child’s stomach, there is a risk of internal injuries in the event of a crash. Check that the top of your child’s head is lower than the top edge of the headrest. If the headrest is too low, there is a greater risk of injury in the case of an accident. At the same time, the shoulder belt guide should be no more than two fi nger widths above the child’s shoulder. [MAXI_047] Always ensure that the side crash pads are positioned correctly in the inner pockets of the shoulder wing and headrest covers. Failure to observe this notice may seriously risk your child’s safety in a collision. [MAXI_009] Secure your TAKATA MAXI in place whenever it is in the vehicle, regardless of whether a child is using it. This prevents the seat from fl ying forwards in an accident or when braking sharply. [MAXI_010] Take care not to damage the vehicle’s seatbelt with knives or other sharp objects. The TAKATA MAXI cannot properly protect children from injury if the belt has been cut or in some way compromised. [MAXI_011] Using the TAKATA MAXI in any way other than described in these instructions can cause serious injury. Do not remove any components or replace them with parts that have not been approved by TAKATA AG. [MAXI_012] After an accident, replace the TAKATA MAXI with a new seat. Accidents can cause damage to the seat that may not be visible to the naked eye. Failure to observe this notice may seriously risk your child’s safety in a collision. [MAXI_013] The TAKATA MAXI can heat up when placed in direct sunlight. To prevent burns, ensure that an adult checks all plastic and metal parts of the seat before use. [MAXI_014] Position the TAKATA MAXI so that static parts (plastic elements, etc.) do not get stuck under moving seats or in vehicle doors during normal use of the vehicle. [MAXI_015] Do not leave any sharp, pointy or heavy objects around the vehicle. In the case of an accident, these objects may fl y around the cabin, injuring children and adults. Luggage and other potentially dangerous items should also be secured in place. Never leave your child in the TAKATA MAXI (whether attended or not) on a raised, slanted or uneven surface, such as a table, a baby-changing table, steps or a ramp. [MAXI_016] Only use the TAKATA MAXI with original covers and original side crash pads. These are key safety components and have been developed specially for use in the seat. NOTE! The TAKATA MAXI should not be used for any more than nine years after purchase. Plastics deteriorate generally over time, particularly when exposed to direct sunlight. This deterioration is not always visible to the naked eye, and can compromise the performance of the seat. Should you have any other queries as to the use of this product, please contact TAKATA customer services (see Section 8 – Service).

Step 3 – Set the height of the back [MAXI_019] Release the seat back locking mecha- nism and adapt the height of the seat back to the size of the child’s body (see Step 1 of this section). If frequently folding the seat up and open again, the size indicator will help you fi nd the right height quickly (there are 11 positions marked from A to L). WARNING! Always adapt the height of the seat back to the size of the child’s body. Ensure that the top of your child’s head is positioned below the top edge of the headrest. If the headrest is too low, there is a greater risk of injury in the case of an accident. At the same time, the shoulder belt guide should be no more than two fi nger widths above the child’s shoulder. CAUTION! Always check that the seat back is locked in place, by lightly pushing down on it, without lifting the lever. If you hear a click, it is fi rmly in position. Folding the seat back down Step 1 – Pull the seat back up to the highest position [MAXI_020] Release the seat back locking mecha- nism and pull the back up as high as possible (see Step 1 of “Folding out and setting up the back”).15
