Frequently Asked Questions - PDI05 Palmer

How do I connect the PDI05 to a combo amplifier?
Set the SPEAKER/LINE selector to SPEAKER (down) and connect the combo amplifier's speaker output to the INPUT of the PDI05. Then connect your cabinet or load to the THRU output.
What is the function of the DEEP/FLAT selector?
The DEEP/FLAT selector adjusts the bass response. In the DEEP position, you get the typical punch of a 4x12" cabinet, while FLAT simulates a closed 2x12" cabinet.
How do I use the PDI05 in stereo?
The PDI05 has two identical channels. For stereo use, connect your sources to the inputs of both channels and adjust the filters independently. The outputs can be sent to a mixer or stereo amplifier.
Can I use the PDI05 with an effects pedal?
Yes. Connect your effects pedal's output to the INPUT of the PDI05, and set the SPEAKER/LINE selector to LINE (up). Then use the OUTPUT to a mixer or amplifier.
What should I do if the fuse blows?
Replace the fuse with one of the same type and rating. If the problem persists, consult an authorised repair centre. Never use a fuse of a different value.
How do I clean the device?
Use a dry, soft cloth to clean the exterior. Never use liquids or abrasive products. Disconnect the device before cleaning.
What is the warranty on the PDI05?
The manufacturer's warranty is 2 to 5 years depending on the product. It covers component and manufacturing defects. To file a claim, contact Adam Hall or your authorised dealer.
How do I dispose of the product at end of life?
Do not dispose of the device with household waste. Take it to an authorised collection point for recycling electronic waste, in accordance with the WEEE directive.
Can I use the PDI05 with keyboards or drum machines?
Yes. Plug the instrument's output directly into the INPUT of the PDI05, with the selector set to LINE. This will add analog warmth to your digital sounds.
How do I set the input level on the PDI05?
Use the SPEAKER/LINE selector to match the level: SPEAKER position for speaker (power) signals, LINE position for line signals (preamp, pedals). Then adjust the volume using the VOLUME potentiometer.

FRONTPANEL SETTINGS

The channel 1 and 2 volume controls and filter switches and the phones output with dedicated volume control are located at the front of the unit for operating convenience.

FILTERVOLUME

Controls the speaker simulated output signal level.

2 DEEP/FLAT

This switch selects the low end EQ with the DEEP setting providing the typical punch of a closed back 4 × 12^ . The FLAT position simulates the airiness of an open back 2 × 12^ cabinet.

BRIGHT/NORMAL/MELLOW

This switch selects between three high frequency characteristics. Especially to overdriven signals, the BRIGHT setting lends clarity and transparency to rhythm parts and the cutting edge to lead lines. NORMAL generates the grainy upper midrange bite of a British loudspeaker, and the MELLOW position simulates the softer, singing "American" tones. Together, both switches select between 6 presets providing authentic simulation of various speaker and cabinet types. We recommend to experiment with different combinations to create new and unusual voicings, as well!

4 PHONES

Stereo headphones output with dedicated volume control. This provides the speaker simulated signal. Using a suitable adapter for connection, the integrated headphones amplifier is even capable of driving home stereo speakers!

BACK PANEL 串 CONNECTING

All connectors with the exception of the phones output are located at the rear of the unit.

5 MAINS

Connect the included mains cord to the IEC socket. The mains fuse holder is integrated into this socket. Make sure the MAINS VOLTAGE selector is set to your local mains supply voltage.

OUTPUT/INPUT CHANNEL 2 AND CHANNEL1

featuring identical connection and switching facilities both channels can also be used for mono applications.

OUTPUT

Zhe XLR and jack socket provide the speaker simulated signal for connection to a mixing console. Both outputs can be used simultaneously. The GROUND LIFT switch isolates pin 1 of the XLR from the chassis ground to eliminate ground loops.

(You can also connect the outputs to a power amp with loudspeakers to amplify and reproduce the filtered signal, e.g. a home stereo featuring AUX or LINE inputs.)

INPUT

use the IN sockets to connect preamps, effects units, combo amps, heads or power amps, and the SPEAKER/LINE switch to set the proper input levels (see WARNING below). The input signal is fed to the THRU sockets without filtering for further use (see Sample applications and connections below).

WARNING

Make sure the SPEAKER/LINE switch is in the SPEAKER position (down) when connecting the PD105 to the loudspeaker outputs of combo amps, heads or power amps, and that appropriate loudspeakers or dummy loads are connected to the THRU sockets!

For all connections from loudspeaker level outputs (e.g. of combo amps, heads or power amps) and to loudspeakers use high quality loudspeaker cable only. Use high quality instrument cable for line level connections.

Preamp plus power amp (power amp post-FDI05) - only the preamp signal is processed by the Speaker Simulator. The SPEAKER/LINE switches must be in the LINE position (= up). A power amp is connected to the THRU sockets to amplify the unfiltered signal. Appropriate loudspeakers must be connected to the power amp.

Head or combo - see C. Use two heads or combos and AB switching for rhythm and lead, or clean and overdriven sounds. The SPEAKER/LINE switch must be in the SPEAKER position (= down), and appropriate loudspeakers or dummy loads must be connected to the THRU sockets!
