The machine must be installed indoors, in a controlled environment. Observe the following limits: ambient temperature 10 °C to 40 °C, water temperature 5 °C to 40 °C, water pressure 1 to 5 Bar. A rear clearance of at least 150 mm is required for ventilation. The machine can be placed on a counter or mounted on a DMS 21 stand.
How to connect the water supply?
Use a copper tube 3/8 O.D. with a 3/8" male flare fitting. Install a hand valve near the machine to control the water supply. For water-cooled models, an additional fitting is provided.
How to connect the water drainage?
Drainage is by gravity via a 3/4" FPT fitting at the rear. A slope of 3 cm per meter is recommended. Use rigid 3/4" tubes. For water-cooled models, a separate 1/2" drain is required.
What electrical precautions should be taken?
The machine must be connected to a dedicated electrical circuit with grounding. Check the voltage on the nameplate (rear panel). Voltage variations must not exceed -5% / +10% of the indicated value.
How to perform initial startup?
After opening the water tap and checking the filling, flip the switch to On. Wait 15 seconds: the gear motor starts, then the compressor. Check that ice forms and that dispensing stops when the container is removed.
How to clean the machine?
Clean the interior of the storage cabinet monthly with a mild detergent and disinfect with an anti-algae liquid. The dispensing spout is removed by pulling down to be washed. The drip tray panel is cleaned via the dedicated switch.
How often should professional maintenance be performed?
Hydraulic circuit and mechanical maintenance must be carried out by a professional at least twice a year to ensure proper operation.
What to do if the machine does not produce enough ice?
Check if the air or water temperature is too high, and if the air filter is not clogged. Ensure the water pressure is sufficient (minimum 1 Bar).
What to do if the machine makes an unusual noise?
Check if the biannual maintenance has been performed. If the noise persists, contact the authorized after-sales service.
Where to find the serial number and rated voltage?
The nameplate is located on the rear panel of the machine. It indicates the model, voltage, current and serial number.

TO INSTALL THE MACHINE

This machine is designed to be placed on a counter or on a model DMS21 machine stand.

Check sales information for other applications.

INSTALLATIONLIMITATIONS:

This ice system is designed to be installed indoors, in a controlled environment:

Min Max

Air Temperature 10°C40°C
Water Temperature 5°C40°C
Water Pressure 1 bar 5 bar Voltage-5%+10%

(Compared to the nameplate)

Operating the machine outside of the limitations is misuse and can void any warranty.

Scotsman Ice Systems are designed and manufactured with the highest regard for safety and performance.

Scotsman reserves the right to make design changes and/or improvements at any time.

Specifications and design are subject to change without notice.

LOCATION&ASSEMBLY:

After uncrating and inspection, the unit is ready for installation. It is important that the machine be installed in a location where it has enough space around it to be accessible for service, and minimum of 150 mm be allowed at the sides for air circulation on air cooled models. A minimum of 150 mm should be allowed at the top for service access. Try to avoid hot, dirty and crowded locations.

MachineStandInstallations:

Tip the machine stand on its back, using parts of the carton to protect the exterior finish. Install the legs into the threaded holes in the bottom of the stand. Turn the leg levelers all the way in preparation for leveling later. Return the stand to the upright position.

CounterTopInstallations:

Locate the plumbing and electrical supply access holes prior to placing the unit on the counter top.

IceMakerDispenser:

The machine is heavy, so the use of a mechanical lift is recommended for lifting the machine high enough to install on top of the stand or counter top. If placing on a machine stand, align it with the back. Secure it to the stand with the hardware provided with the stand. If placing on a counter top, no additional fastening is required. Sealing the edges of the dispenser to the cabinet is recommended to make cleaning easier.

PLUMBING:

PLUMBINGCONNECTIONSMUST

CONFORMTOALLAPPLICABLECODES

WaterInlet

Air Cooled Models: The recommended water supply is potable cold water. Use 3/8" O.D. copper tubing, connect to the 3/8" male flare at the back of the cabinet. Install a hand valve near the machine to control the water supply.

Water Cooled Models: A separate 3/8" O.D. copper line is recommended, with a separate hand valve to control it. It is connected to a 3/8" FPT condenser inlet at the back of the cabinet.

Drains

Air Cooled Models: There is one 3/4" FPT drain at the back of the cabinet, the drain line is of the gravity type, and a 3 cm per meter fall is an acceptable pitch for the drain tubing. There should be a vent at the highest point of the drain line, and the ideal drain receptacle would be a trapped and vented floor drain. Use only 3/4" rigid tubing.

WaterCooledModels: In addition to the above mentioned drain, a separate condenser drain must be installed. Connect it to the 1/2" condenser drain connection at the back of the cabinet.

ELECTRICAL:

ELECTRICALCONNECTIONSMUST

CONFORMTOALLAPPLICABLECODES

The electrical power to the unit is supplied through the junction box at the rear of the machine.

Check the nameplate (located on the back panel) for the voltage requirements, and for the minimum circuit ampacity. The machine requires a solid chassis to earth ground wire.

The ice maker should be connected to its own electrical circuit so it would be individually fused. Voltage variation must remain within design limitations, even under starting conditions.

The electrical disconnect switch with fuse protection must be a two pole type with a minimum of 3 mm between open contacts.

FINALCHECKLIST

  1. Is the ice system installed indoors in a location where the air and water temperatures are controlled, and where they do not exceed the design limitations?
  2. Is there an electrical service disconnect within sight of the installed machine? Has the voltage been checked, and compared to nameplate requirements?
  3. Have all the plumbing connections been made and checked for leaks?
  4. Has the machine and bin been leveled?
  5. Is there a minimum of 150 mm clearance at the sides of the machine for proper service access and air circulation?
  6. Is the water pressure a minimum of 1 bar?
  7. Has the machine been secured to the machine stand (if a stand is used)?
  8. Is there clearance over the top of the machine for service access?
  9. Is there a water shut off valve installed near the machine?

INITIALSTARTUP

Pre-Start Inspection

  1. Remove the two front panels.
  2. Inspect the interior of the machine for loose screws or wires. Check that no refrigerant lines are rubbing each other. Check that the fan blade turns freely (air cooled).
  3. Remove any and all packaging material including any that may be inside the ice storage bin.
  4. Check that the inner bin bottom is properly seated at the bottom of the ice storage bin.
  5. Check that the unit is installed correctly according to the final check list.

StartUp

  1. Open the hand valve, observe that water enters the water reservoir, fills the tube from the reservoir to the evaporator, and then shuts off.
  2. Switch the master switch on.

A. There should be a short (15 second) delay before the gearmotor starts.
B. After the gearmotor starts, the compressor will start.
4. On air cooled models, the condenser will begin to discharge warm air, on water cooled models warm water will be flow into the drain.
5. The unit should soon be making ice.
6. There Are No Adjustments to Make, so replace the panels.
7. Check ice dispensing by holding a container in front of the Tough Free ice sensor (just below the ice delivery spout). Ice should flow from the spout when a container is present, and stop dispensing when the container is removed.
8. Give the owner/user the manual, instruct him/her in the operation of the unit, and make sure they know who to call for service.

SANITIZING AND CLEANING

The following is a list of recommended maintenance that will help keep the machine running with a minimum of problems.

Maintenance and Cleaning should be scheduled at a minimum of twice per year.

IceMakingSystem: Inplacecleaning

WARNING: Before proceeding with any cleaning and maintenance operation, make sure that the electrical power has been disconnected.
