Frequently Asked Questions - DCM305E Megger

How to turn on and off the Megger DCM305E?
Press the POWER button to turn on the device. To turn it off, press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds or wait for the automatic power-off after 20 minutes of inactivity.
How to use the Auto-Hold function (AUTOHOLD)?
Activate AUTOHOLD mode via the menu. When the measurement remains stable (variation < ±10 counts over 10 cycles), the device emits three beeps and freezes the value. If the measurement changes by more than ±10 counts, the hold is released.
What is the function of the low-pass filter?
The low-pass filter (cutoff frequency 100 Hz, attenuation -24 dB/octave) allows measuring leakage current in high-frequency environments by filtering harmonic components for a more accurate reading.
How to replace the batteries?
When the low battery icon appears, remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the device. Replace the two AAA/LR03 batteries respecting polarity. Close the cover.
What does the symbol 'OL' on the display mean?
OL (OverLoad) indicates that the measurement exceeds the selected range. For ranges below 100 A, 'OL' is displayed; on the 100 A range, the actual value is shown even beyond.
How to measure leakage current with the DCM305E?
Place the clamp around the conductor to be tested (phase, neutral or ground). Select AC current mode. For leakage current, it is recommended to measure on the ground conductor or perform a differential measurement by clamping the phase+neutral together.
What safety precautions should be taken?
Never work alone. Use the device only with hands behind the hand guard. For voltages >30 VAC, wear personal protective equipment. Do not use the clamp if damaged or wet.
How to interpret the crest factor?
The crest factor affects accuracy. For a crest factor of 1.4 to 2.0, add 1.0% error; from 2.0 to 2.5 add 2.5%; from 2.5 to 3.0 add 4.0%. The maximum crest factor varies depending on the number of displayed counts.
What to do in case of abnormal measurement fluctuation?
A fluctuation of ±3 digits is normal. If the display is unstable, check that the clamp is not exposed to a strong electromagnetic field. Move the device away from interference sources or use the low-pass filter.
How to clean and maintain the device?
Clean the housing regularly with a dry cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive products or solvents. Avoid shocks to the jaws. No internal parts are user-serviceable.

USER MANUAL DCM305E Megger

To ensure safe operation and service of the meter, follow these instructions.

Failure to observe warnings can result in severe injury or death.

■ Avoid working alone so assistance can be rendered.
■ Do not use the clamp meter if the instrument looks damaged
■ Do not use the clamp meter if the tester is not operating properly or if it is wet.
■ Use the clamp meter only as specified in the instruction card or the protection provided by the clamp meter may be impaired.
■ Ensure hands are kept behind the barrier / hand guard when making measurements.
■ Special precautions are necessary when operating in situations where exposed live parts at dangerous voltages may be encountered. Personal protective equipment (not supplied with the instrument) should be used.
■ Use caution with voltages above 30 V AC RMS, or 60 V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.

In the AUTOHOLD mode, if the measured value remains within ±10 counts over 10 measuring cycles the instrument will beep 3 times; the measured value will be held on the display and "AUTOHOLD" will be displayed.

Subsequently if the measured value changes by ±10 counts, the instrument will beep; “AUTOHOLD” will disappear and the instrument will revert to displaying the new readings until the next AUTOHOLD conditions are met.

Note: When the AUTOHOLD activates, the displayed reading will be held for 3 seconds if the clamp jaws are removed from the conductor/s. During this time the HOLD key may be pressed to hold the reading indefinitely.
