If the Dell technical support agent determines that your issue is the result of a defect in materials or workmanship but the issue is not able to be resolved remotely, Dell, at its sole discretion, may dispatch a replacement part to you, arrange for you to send your product or defective part back to Dell’s repair depot, or replace the product with a comparable product that may be new or refurbished. In addition, ifImportant Information 19 you fail to pay Dell the amounts due in connection with such an invoice, Dell may suspend your limited hardware warranty support until the invoice amount is paid. A suspension of your limited hardware warranty for failure to properly return a product will not toll the term of your limited hardware warranty, and the limited hardware warranty will still expire in accordance with its original term. NOTE: Before you ship the product(s) to us, make sure to back up the data on the hard drive(s) and any other storage device(s) in the product(s). Remove any confidential, proprietary, or personal information and removable media such as floppy disks, CDs, or PC Cards. We are not responsible for any of your confidential, proprietary, or personal information; lost or corrupted data; or damaged or lost removable media. Please only include the product components requested by the phone technician. Important Information about In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis (Alienware customers only): If Dell determines that your issue is covered under this limited hardware warranty and the technician cannot correct your problem over the phone or, if applicable, by dispatching a part or replacement product to you, then Dell may dispatch a service technician to your location within the United States (including Puerto Rico, but excluding the other U.S. possessions and territories). Please tell the technician the full address of your system's location. Both the performance of service and service response times depend upon the time of day your call is received by Dell, the service alternative you purchased, parts availability, geographical restrictions, weather conditions and the terms of this limited hardware warranty. An adult must be present at all times during the service technician’s visit. You must grant the service technician full access to the system and (at no cost to Dell) have working space, electricity, and a local telephone line. If these requirements are lacking, Dell is not obligated to provide service. In addition, Dell is not obligated to provide service if you fail to provide an environment that is conducive to computer repair, including for example, if you insist on service to be provided at varying locations, if you fail to properly restrain a pet, if you threaten our technician either verbally or physically, if your location or the general area where the system is located is dangerous, infested with insects, rodents pests, biohazards, human or animal excrement and/or chemicals as reasonably determined to be unsafe by our technician. If you or your authorized representative is not at the location when the service technician arrives, the service technician will not be able to service your system and you may be charged an additional amount for a follow-up service call. If the telephone technician determines that your system needs a replacement part, you authorize the on-site technician to act as your service agent to handle the delivery and return of the warranty parts necessary to render on-site repairs. You may incur a charge if you fail to allow the on-site technician to return non-working/unused units/warranty parts to Dell. What if I purchased a service contract? If your service contract is with Dell, service will be provided to you under the terms of the service agreement. Please refer to that contract for details on how to obtain service. If you purchased through us a service contract with a third-party service provider, please refer to that contract for details on how to obtain service. Dell Software License Agreement This is a legal agreement ("Agreement") between you, the user, and Dell Products L.P or Dell Global B.V. (Singapore Branch), a Singapore branch of a company incorporated in The Netherlands with limited liability, on behalf of Dell Inc. and Dell Inc.’s subsidiaries and affiliates (together "Dell"). This Agreement covers all software (and upgrades and updates thereto) that is distributed by Dell and for which there is no separate license agreement between you and the manufacturer or owner of the software (collectively the "Software"). This Agreement is not for the sale of Software or any other intellectual property. All title and intellectual property rights in and to Software are owned and retained by the manufacturer or owner of the Software. All rights not expressly granted under this Agreement are reserved by the manufacturer or owner of the Software. By opening or breaking the seal on the Software packet(s), installing, downloading, activating the Software, click-accepting these terms, or using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not install, download, activate, or otherwise use the Software and must promptly return for a full refund all Software (including accompanying media, written materials, and packaging) or delete any Software, as directed by Dell; for software included with your purchase of hardware, you must return the entire hardware/software package. If you are an entity, you acknowledge that the individual accepting these terms has appropriate authority to do so and to bind you. Subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of this Agreement, Dell grants you a limited, nonexclusive, nontransferable (except as set forth herein), non-assignable license, to use the Software (in object code only) only on as many computers, devices, or in such configurations as you are expressly entitled, or one computer or device, if no other entitlement is specified, and for only such period as you are entitled, in the case of a term license, and perpetually, if no term is specified. You may use the Software only on Dell computers or devices, with the exception of mobile device application software specifically designed by Dell to be run on non-Dell hardware. "Use" means to install, store, load, execute, and display the Software. If you are a commercial customer of Dell, you hereby grant Dell, or an agent selected by Dell, the right to perform an audit of your use of the Software during normal business hours; you agree to cooperate with Dell in such audit; and you agree to provide Dell with all records reasonably related to your use of theImportant Information 39 Software. The audit will be limited to verification of your compliance with the terms of this Agreement. The Software is protected by United States and other applicable copyright laws, patent laws, and international treaties. You may make one copy of the Software solely for backup or archival purposes or transfer it to a single hard disk or storage device provided you keep the copy solely for backup or archival purposes. You shall reproduce and include copyright and other proprietary notices on and in any copies for the Software. You may not sublicense, rent, or lease the Software or copy the written materials accompanying the Software. You may transfer the Software and all accompanying materials on a permanent basis as part of a sale or transfer of the Dell product on which it was preloaded by Dell, where applicable, if you retain no copies and the recipient agrees to the terms hereof. Any such transfer must include the most recent update and all prior versions. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble, modify, or create derivative works of the Software. If the package accompanying your Dell computer or device contains optical discs or other storage media, you may use only the media appropriate for your computer or device. You may not use the optical discs or storage media on another computer, device, or network, or loan, rent, lease, or transfer them to another user except as permitted by this Agreement. Limited Warranty And Limitation Of Liability Dell warrants that the Software media (if applicable) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for 90 days from the date you receive them. This warranty is limited to you and is not transferable. Any implied warranties are limited to 90 days from the date you receive the Software. Some jurisdictions do not allow limits on the duration of an implied warranty, so this limitation may not apply to you. The entire liability of Dell and its suppliers, and your exclusive remedy, shall be, at Dell's option, either (a) termination of this Agreement and return of the price paid for the Software or (b) replacement of any media not meeting this warranty that is sent with a return authorization number to Dell, within the 90 day warranty period, at your cost and risk. This limited warranty is void if any media damage has resulted from accident, abuse, misapplication, or service or modification by someone other than Dell. Any replacement media is warranted for the remaining original warranty period or 30 days, whichever is longer. Dell and its suppliers do NOT warrant that the functions of the Software will meet your requirements or that operation of the Software will be uninterrupted or error free. BECAUSE SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW AN EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. Hosted & Internet-Accessible Software Some or all of the Software may be remotely hosted or accessible to you through the Internet. In such case, Dell may suspend, terminate, withdraw, or discontinue all or part of the Software or your access to the Software upon receipt of a subpoena or law-enforcement request, or when Dell believes, in its sole discretion, that you have breached any term of this Agreement or are involved in any fraudulent, misleading, or illegal activities. Dell may modify the Software at any time with or without prior notice to you. Dell may perform scheduled or unscheduled repairs or maintenance, or remotely patch or upgrade the Software installed on its and your computer system(s), which may temporarily degrade the quality of the Software or result in a partial or complete outage of the Software. Updates, patches or alerts may be delivered from Dell servers, which may be located outside of your country. Dell provides no assurance that you will receive advance notification of such activities or that your use of the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free. Open Source Software A portion of the Software may contain or consist of open source software, which you can use under the terms and conditions of the specific license under which the open source software is distributed. IN NO EVENT SHALL DELL, THE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS, OR THE CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PROCUREMENT OF SUBSTUTUTE GOODS OR SERVICES; LOSS OF USE, DATA, OR PROFITS; OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) HOWEVER CAUSED AND ON ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE USE OF THIS OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE. Under certain open source software licenses, you are entitled to obtain the corresponding source files. You may find corresponding source files for the Software at http://opensource.dell.com or at such other locations indicated by Dell.Important Information 41 Export You are advised that the Software is subject to U.S. export laws as well as the laws of the country where it is delivered or used. You agree to abide by these laws. Under these laws, the Software may not be sold, leased, or transferred to restricted countries (currently Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria), restricted end-users, or for restricted end-uses. You specifically agree that the Software will not be used for activities related to weapons of mass destruction, including but not limited to activities related to the design, development, production, or use of nuclear materials, nuclear facilities, or nuclear weapons, missiles, or support of missile projects, or chemical or biological weapons. Upon termination, you agree that the Software and accompanying materials, and all copies thereof, will be destroyed. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to principles of conflicts of laws. Each provision of this Agreement is severable. If a provision is found to be unenforceable, this finding does not affect the enforceability of the remaining provisions of this Agreement. This Agreement is binding on successors and assigns. Dell agrees and you agree to waive, to the maximum extent permitted by law, any right to a jury trial with respect to the Software or this Agreement. Because this waiver may not be effective in some jurisdictions, this waiver may not apply to you. You acknowledge that you have read this Agreement, that you understand it, that you agree to be bound by its terms, and that this is the complete and exclusive statement of the Agreement between you and Dell regarding the Software. Supplemental Terms for EMC Software You may use one copy of the Software on only one computer or device at a time for your own internal business purposes. You shall not, without Dell's prior written consent copy, provide, disclose or otherwise make available Software in any form to anyone other than your employees, consultants or independent contractors who shall use the Software in a manner that is consistent with this Agreement. (Rev.110711)42 Important Information CAUTION: General Safety Instructions Use the following safety guidelines to help ensure your own personal safety and to help protect your equipment and working environment from potential damage. NOTE: In this section, equipment refers to all portable devices (computers, port replicators, media bases, docking stations, printers, and similar devices), desktop computers, and monitors. After reading this section, be sure to read the safety instructions pertaining to your specific equipment. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR USE IN HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENTS: Dell™ products are not medical devices and are not listed under UL or IEC 60601 (or equivalent). As a result, they must not be used within 6 feet of a patient or in a manner that directly or indirectly contacts a patient. SAFETY: General Safety When setting up the equipment for use:
- Place the equipment on a hard, level surface. Leave 10.2 cm (4 in) minimum of clearance on all vented sides of the printer to permit the airflow required for proper ventilation. Restricting airflow can damage the printer or cause a fire.
- Do not stack equipment or place equipment so close together that it is subject to re- circulated or preheated air. NOTE: Review the weight limits referenced in your computer documentation before placing a printer, a monitor, or other devices on top of your computer.
- Ensure that nothing rests on your equipment's cables and that the cables are not located where they can be stepped on or tripped over.
- Do not place your equipment in a closed-in wall unit or on a bed, sofa, or rug.
- Keep your device away from radiators and heat sources.
- Keep your equipment away from extremely hot or cold temperatures to ensure that it is used within the specified operating range.
- Do not push any objects into the air vents or openings of your equipment. Doing so can cause fire or electric shock by shorting out interior components.
- Avoid placing loose papers underneath your device. Do not place your device in a closed-in wall unit, or on a soft, fabric surface such as a bed, sofa, carpet, or a rug. When operating your equipment:
- Do not use your equipment in a wet environment, for example, near a bath tub, sink, or swimming pool or in a wet basement.
- Do not use AC powered equipment during an electrical storm.
- If your device includes an integrated or optional (PC card) modem, disconnect the modem cable if an electrical storm is approaching to avoid the remote risk of electric shock from lightning via the telephone line.Important Information 43
- If your device includes a modem, the cable used with the modem should be manufactured with a minimum wire size of 26 American wire gauge (AWG) and an FCC compliant RJ- 11 modular plug.
- Do not spill food or liquids on your equipment.
- Before you clean your equipment, disconnect it from the electrical outlet. Clean your device with a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use liquids or aerosol cleaners, which may contain flammable substances.
- Clean the Printer display with a soft, clean cloth and water. Apply the water to the cloth, then stroke the cloth across the display in one direction, moving from the top of the display to the bottom. Remove moisture from the display quickly and keep the display dry. Long-term exposure to moisture can damage the display. Do not use a commercial window cleaner to clean your display.
WARNING: Do not operate your equipment with any cover(s) (including external or
internal covers, bezels, filler brackets, front-panel inserts, etc.) removed.
- If your equipment does not operate normally — in particular, if there are any unusual sounds or smells coming from it — unplug it immediately and contact an authorized dealer or service center. SAFETY: Laser Printer Dell Laser Printers are classified as Class 1 Laser Products and comply with FDA performance standards for laser products except for deviations pursuant to Laser Notice No. 50, dated June 24, 2007, and to IEC 60825-1:2007 (for USA & CANADA) / IEC 60825-1:2014 (for others) Safety of Laser Products. The radiation from the lasers emitted inside the printer is completely confined within protective housings and external covers, and the laser beam cannot escape during any phase of normal user operation.
WARNING: Using controls, making adjustments, or performing procedures other than
those specified in your user documentation or in instructions provided to your by Dell may result in exposure to hazardous radiation. SAFETY: When Working Inside Your Device Do not attempt to service the equipment yourself, except as explained in your Dell documentation or in instructions otherwise provided to you by Dell. Always follow installation and service instructions closely. SAFETY: General Power Safety Observe the following guidelines when connecting your equipment to a power source:
- Check the voltage rating before you connect the equipment to an electrical outlet to ensure that the required voltage and frequency match the available power source.
- Also, ensure that your printer and attached devices are electrically rated to operate with the AC power available in your location.44 Important Information
- Do not plug the equipment power cables into an electrical outlet if the power cable is damaged.
- To prevent electric shock, plug the equipment power cables into properly grounded electrical outlets. If the equipment is provided with a 3-prong power cable, do not use adapter plugs that bypass the grounding feature, or remove the grounding feature from the plug or adapter.
- If you use an extension power cable, ensure that the total ampere rating of the products plugged in to the extension power cable does not exceed the ampere rating of the extension cable.
- If you must use an extension cable or power strip, ensure the extension cable or power strip is connected to a wall power outlet and not to another extension cable or power strip. The extension cable or power strip must be designed for grounded plugs and plugged into a grounded wall outlet.
- If you are using a multiple-outlet power strip, use caution when plugging the power cable into the power strip. Some power strips may allow you to insert a plug incorrectly. Incorrect insertion of the power plug could result in permanent damage to your equipment, as well as risk of electric shock and/or fire. Ensure that the ground prong of the power plug is inserted into the mating ground contact of the power strip.
- Be sure to grasp the plug, not the cable, when disconnecting equipment from an electric socket. If your equipment uses an AC adapter:
- Use only the Dell provided AC adapter approved for use with this device. Use of another AC adapter may cause a fire or explosion. NOTE: Refer to your system rating label for information on the proper adapter model approved for use with your device.
- Place the AC adapter in a ventilated area, such as a desk top or on the floor, when you use it to run the printer. Do not cover the AC adapter with papers or other items that will reduce cooling; also, do not use the AC adapter inside a carrying case.
- The AC adapter may become hot during normal operation of your printer. Use care when handling the adapter during or immediately after operation.
- It is recommended that you lay the adapter on the floor or desk so that the green light is visible. This will alert you if the adapter should accidentally go off due to external effects. If for any reason the green light goes off, disconnect the AC power cord from the wall for a period of ten seconds, and then reconnect the power cord.
- For AC adapters that are set in the printer, unplug the power cable first before pulling out the AC adapter. If your equipment uses a replaceable battery:
WARNING: There is a danger of a new battery exploding if it is incorrectly installed.
Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions.Important Information 45 SAFETY: If Your Device Gets Wet
WARNING: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, see the "CAUTION:
General Safety Instructions" on page 42.
WARNING: Perform this procedure only after you are certain that it is safe to do so. If the
printer is connected to an electrical outlet, turn off the AC power at the circuit breaker, if possible, before attempting to remove the power cables from the electrical outlet. Use the utmost caution when removing wet cables from a live power source.
Disconnect the power cord plug from the electrical outlet. If provided with an AC adapter, disconnect the AC adapter from the electrical outlet first. Then, if possible, disconnect the AC adapter from the device.

NOTE: See the "(Rev. 092611)" on page 13 or a separate paper warranty document that shipped with your printer for information on your warranty coverage.46 Important Information Equipment Protection Instructions Observe the following safe-handling guidelines to help prevent damage to your equipment: CAUTION: When taking equipment from low-temperature conditions into a warmer environment or from high-temperature conditions into a cooler environment, allow the equipment to acclimate to room temperature and for any condensation that may have formed to evaporate before turning on power to avoid damage to the equipment.
- Protect your equipment from environmental hazards such as dirt, dust, food, liquids, temperature extremes, and overexposure to sunlight.
- If your device has both a modem RJ-11 connector and a network RJ-45 connector, which look alike, make sure that you insert the telephone cable into the RJ-11 connector, not the RJ-45 connector. Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge
WARNING: Disconnect product from mains power source in accordance with product-
specific safety information located within this document. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) events can harm electronic components inside your printer or computer. Under certain conditions, ESD may build up on your body or an object, such as a peripheral, and then discharge into another object, such as your printer or computer. To prevent ESD damage, you should discharge static electricity from your body before you interact with any of your equipment’s internal electronic components, such as a memory module. You can protect against ESD and discharge static electricity from your body by touching a metal grounded object (such as an unpainted metal surface on your printer's or computer’s I/O panel) before you interact with anything electronic. When connecting a peripheral (including handheld digital assistants) to your printer or computer, you should always ground both yourself and the peripheral before connecting it to the printer or computer. In addition, as you work inside the printer, periodically touch a metal-grounded object to remove any static charge your body may have accumulated. You can also take the following steps to prevent damage from electrostatic discharge:
- When unpacking a static-sensitive component from its shipping carton, do not remove the component from the antistatic packing material until you are ready to install the component. Just before unwrapping the antistatic package, be sure to discharge static electricity from your body.
- When transporting a sensitive component, first place it in an antistatic container or packaging. Handle all electrostatic sensitive components in a static-safe area. If possible, use antistatic floor pads and work bench pads.Important Information 47 Environmental Considerations Recycling Information Dell recommends that customers dispose of their used computer hardware, monitors, printers, and other peripherals in an environmentally sound manner.
