They contain important information on safety, usage and disposal. Before using the product, familiarise yourself with all handling and safety guidelines.  27 ■ SPWL 180 A1 Safety instructions WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years and above and by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, provided that they are un- der supervision or have been told how to use the appliance safely and are aware of the potential risks. Children must not use the ap- pliance as a plaything. Cleaning and user maintenance tasks may not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Ensure that no liquids can get into the scales or into the display. ► Do not place the scales in the immediate vicinity of heat sources. The scales and the display may only be operated at temperatures between 5° and 35°C. Higher or lower temperatures can lead to malfunctions or to permanent damage. ► Do not place any weight of more than 180 kg / 400 lb / 28 st! on the scales! This could irreparably damage the scales. ► Avoid electrostatic charging and discharging. These can cause er- roneous displays and/or the sudden deactivation of the scales. ► For damage caused by ... – opening the scales housing – repairs attempted by non-qualified personnel and – improper usage of the scales ... no liability/warranty will be accepted by the manufacturer!■ 28 

This appliance uses a battery. When handling batteries, please ob- serve the following: ► Do not throw batteries into a fire. Do not recharge batteries. Risk of explosion! ► Never open batteries and never solder or weld batteries. Risk of explosions and injuries! ► Check the condition of the battery regularly. Leaking batteries can cause damage to the appliance. ► Remove the battery if you do not intend to use the appliance for an extended period of time. ► If the batteries have leaked, use protective gloves. Clean the bat- tery compartment and the battery contacts with a dry cloth. ► In the event of skin contact with spilled battery acid, immediately wash the affected area with plenty of water. ► Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Children can put bat- teries into their mouth and swallow them. If a battery is swallowed, medical assistance must be sought immediately.GB

measurement (kg, lb or st) by pressing the UNIT button on the rear of the scales NOTE ► The unit of measurement must only be set on first use.

There would be a serious risk of slipping and personal injury! Never put weight onto only one side of the scales. Always step onto the scales in the middle and with both feet. Otherwise, the scales could tip and become irreparably damaged. There is also a risk of falling over! ATTENTION! DAMAGE TO PROPERTY! ► Never jump onto glass scales! This could irreparably damage them.

1) Stand with both feet on the scale. The scale

switches on. Stand as still as possible and without displacing your weight.

2) During the weighing process, the indicated

weight increases until your weight is shown.

3) Once your weight has been determined, the

result blinks three times on the display . NOTE If the display switches off during weighing, the scales cannot measure the weight correctly. In this case, step down from the scales, wait a few seconds and then try again. Make sure you stand still and do not interrupt the weighing procedure.■ 30 

 GB SPWL 180 A1 Warnings ■ If the weight exceeds the maximum weighing capacity of 180 kg / 400 lb / 28 st, „Err“ is shown in the display . You should immediately step down from the scales, otherwise they could be damaged. ■ If "Lo" appears in the display you need to replace the battery. ■ If the display shows “C” after you get off the scale, it may be that the measurement was faulty. Please repeat the measurement. Replacing the battery

1) Open the battery compartment .

2) Remove the old batteries.

3) Insert new 1.5 V batteries, type AAA Micro,

into the battery compartment . Ensure the polarity is correct. This is indicated in the battery compartment .

4) Close the battery compartment cover so that it

clicks into place. Usage and safekeeping ■ Note that the weighing results from different scales can vary slightly from each other. ■ Avoid unnecessary battery discharge. Therefore, do not place objects on the scales when they are not being used. ■ Remove the batteries if you do not intend to use the scale for an extended period. ■ Keep the scales in a clean and dry location. ■ Avoid electrostatic charging. ■ Your scales are sensitive electronic devices. As such, they can be temporarily disturbed by other high-frequency appliances being operated in the immediate vicinity (e.g. mobile telephones, CB radio stations, radio remote controls and microwave ovens). If errors occur, such as irregular or erratic read- ings on the display , either remove the scales from the source of the disturbance or switch the source of the disturbance off whilst you are using the appliance. Cleaning ATTENTION! DAMAGE TO PROPERTY! Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids to clean it. Clean your scales exclusively with a neutral detergent and a soft cloth.GB 

 31 ■ SPWL 180 A1 In case of faults ATTENTION! DAMAGE TO PROPERTY! ► Do not attempt to dismantle the scales or to carry out repairs yourself. You could potentially damage the sensitive electronic components. Repairs to your scales may only be carried out by qualified service personnel! No liability will be accepted for damage re- sulting from improper use and/or the opening of the appliance! In the event of faulty operation or if the display is incorrect, please check the following conditions: ■ Have the batteries been inserted into the battery compartment with the correct polarity? ■ Is the correct unit of measurement set? Perform a reset on the scales: ■ To do this, remove the batteries from the battery compartment . ■ Wait a few seconds, then replace the batteries into the battery compartment . If these measures do not correct the problem, please contact the appropriate service partner. Warranty and service You are provided a 3-year warranty on this appliance , valid from the date of purchase. This appliance has been manufactured with care and inspected meticulously prior to delivery. Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase. In the event of a warranty claim, please contact your Customer Service unit by telephone. This is the only way to guarantee free return of your goods. The warranty only covers claims for material and manufacturing defects, not for transport damage, wearing parts or for damage to fragile components such as switches or batteries. This appliance is intended solely for private use and not for com- mercial purposes. The warranty shall be deemed void in the instance of misuse or improper handling, use of force and interventions which were not carried out by one of our authorised Service centres.
