Why does my camera not turn on?

Check that the battery is properly inserted and charged. Use the supplied charger. If the CHARGE indicator flashes quickly, remove and reinsert the battery. If the problem persists, the battery may be defective and needs to be replaced.

What memory card should I use to record HD movies?

For movies in 1280x720 (Fine or Standard), use an SD/SDHC memory card of Class 4 or faster, or a Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2) or PRO-HG Duo. Slow cards may cause recording interruptions.

How do I take a panoramic photo?

Set the mode dial to Sweep Panorama. Point the camera at the edge of the subject, press the shutter button fully, then pan slowly in the direction indicated until the end of the guide. The camera automatically stitches the images together.

What if the flash does not fire?

Check that the flash is enabled and that the shooting mode allows the flash (e.g., not in Panorama or Burst mode). In Intelligent Auto mode, the flash is automatic. If the flash remains off, clean the battery contacts or replace the battery.

How do I transfer photos to a computer?

Use the supplied multi-use cable to connect the camera to the computer via USB. Set the camera to Mass Storage mode (default setting). The images appear as a removable drive. You can also use the PMB (Picture Motion Browser) software provided on the CD-ROM.

Why do white spots appear on my photos with flash?

These spots are due to dust or pollen particles floating near the lens, reflected by the flash. To reduce them, take the photo without flash or use High Sensitivity mode (which disables the flash).

How do I set the date and time?

Press MENU, select Settings (folder icon), then Clock Settings. Choose Area Setting for the time zone, then Date & Time Setting to enter the date and time. Confirm with the center button.

What does the message 'Unrecognizable file found' mean?

This message appears if you try to delete a folder containing a file unreadable by the camera (for example, from another device). Delete those files via a computer, then try again. You can also format the memory card (note: all data will be erased).

How do I use the self-portrait timer?

Press the Self-Timer button (clock) on the control button, then select Self-Portrait One Person or Two People. Point the lens toward yourself. The camera detects faces and releases the shutter after 2 seconds. You can also press the shutter button manually.

The LCD screen shows 'C:32:00', what should I do?

This self-diagnosis display indicates a lens malfunction. Turn off the camera, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then reinsert it and turn on again. If the code persists, contact a Sony authorized service center.

• To avoid blurring of images, hold the camera firmly until the shutter is released. It usually takes a second after you press the shutter button. Be also sure not to allow the subject to move during this period.
• Red Eye Reduction may not produce the desired effects. It depends on individual differences and conditions, such as distance to the subject, or if the subject looked away from the pre-strobe.
• If you do not use the Face Detection function, Red Eye Reduction does not work, even when you select [Auto].

What causes the red-eye phenomenon?

Pupils become dilated in dark environments. Flash light is reflected off the blood vessels at the back of the eye (retina), causing the "red-eye" phenomenon.

Other ways to reduce red-eye

• Select (High Sensitivity) mode in Scene Selection. (The flash is set to [Off] automatically.)
• When the eyes of the subject turn out red, correct the image with [Retouch] [Red Eye Correction] on the viewing menu or with the supplied software "PMB".
