Setting the Brew Strength

The strength of the coffee varies depending on the amount of water and coffee. To ensure that with little water you get a coffee that is not too bitter and with a lot of water you still get a strong coffee, the device has two settings which can be used to influence the brew strength. These can be selected using the BRÜHSTÄRKE (BREW STRENGTH) button (1). The chosen setting is shown on the display (10):

STARK (STRONG) Strong coffee with lots of water (longer brewing time)

1-4 TAssEN (CUPS) Normal, aromatic coffee with little water (shorter brewing time)

A normal brewing time is preset (similar to other coffee machines).

BEEM Robustica - Setting the Brew Strength - 1

The brew strength MUST be set before starting the brewing process. The setting cannot be changed during the brewing process. If no option has been selected, the coffee machine brews in normal mode (presetting).

Keep-Warm Function

The device has a keep-warm function (1-4 hours), which can be set using the WARMHALTEN (KEEP WARM) button (12).

The keep-warm function is preset to 4 hours. The following settings can be selected:

0 - Iced coffee (see the "Preparation" chapter | "Making Iced Coffee")
1 – The coffee is kept warm for 1 hour after the end of the brewing process
2 - The coffee is kept warm for 2 hours after the end of the brewing process
3 - The coffee is kept warm for 3 hours after the end of the brewing process
4 - The coffee is kept warm for 4 hours after the end of the brewing process

  1. Prepare the coffee machine for making coffee with coffee powder (see the "Preparation" chapter).
  2. Keep pressing the WARMHALTEN (KEEP WARM) button until the setting you want (0 - 4) appears on the display (10).
  3. Start the brewing process (see the "Preparation" chapter). The hotplate remains switched on as per the chosen setting after the end of the brewing process.

BEEM Robustica - Keep-Warm Function - 1

This setting can be adjusted before, during or after the brewing process.

  1. To end the keep-warm function prematurely, press the START / STOP button (16).

Drip Stop

The device has a drip stop which stops coffee dripping from the coffee tank (2) while the coffee dispenser (6) is not being pressed.

During the brewing process and while the device is in operation, care must be taken to ensure that nothing constantly presses against the coffee dispenser.

Preparation

NOTES

  • Do not operate the device without water or with less water than is required to reach the 2 Cups mark. If this does happen, the device switches off automatically. In this case, allow the device to cool down before water is poured in and the device is used again.

  • Press the START / STOP button (16) to start the brewing process. The operating lamp in the button lights up. The water is transported from the water tank through the filter into the coffee tank (2) and kept warm inside it (PICTURE C).
  • The fill-level indicator (3) indicates how much coffee is in the coffee tank (Picture D). At the end of the brewing process, you will hear a beep and the device automatically switches on the keep-warm function (see the "Handling and Operation" chapter | "Keep-Warm Function"). The operating lamp in the START / STOP button remains switched on.

BEEM Robustica - NOTES - 1

If the brewing process is to be aborted prematurely, press the START / STOP button. The operating lamp goes out, and the device is in stand-by mode.

  1. To remove coffee, carefully press a glass or a coffee mug against the coffee dispenser (6).

After the preset duration of the keep-warm function has expired, the device automatically switches to stand-by mode. The operating lamp in the START / STOP button goes out.

Warming Up Coffee

To warm coffee up again, press the START / STOP button (16) and hold it down for approx. 3 seconds. The preset time for the keep-warm function is activated again and the coffee is reheated (see the "Handling and Operation" chapter | "Keep-Warm Function").

Making Iced Coff ee

BEEM Robustica - Making Iced Coff ee - 1

The coffee needs to be brewed stronger for iced coffee. We recommend two heaped measuring spoons for each 125ml cup.

  1. Fill the coffee tank (2) up to the 10-cup mark on the fill-level indicator with ice cubes.
  2. Set the keep-warm function to the 0 setting using the WARMHALTEN (KEEP WARM) button (12) (see the "Handling and Operation" chapter | "Keep-Warm Function").

Making Coff ee with a Preset Time

  1. Prepare the coffee machine, add coffee powder, pour in water, insert a filter and if necessary set the brew strength and the keep-warm function (see the previous chapter).
  2. Hold down the TIMER button (11). The time display 19:99 flashes on the display (10).
  3. Use the buttons S (14) and M (13) to set the start time you want (see the "Handling and Operation" chapter | "Time").
  4. Let go of the TIMER button.
  5. To activate the preset time, press the TIMER button again. A beep sounds, the operating lamp in the button lights up and START TIMER appears on the display. The preset time is activated.

Once the preset time is reached, the device switches on automatically. The operating lamp in the TIMER button goes out and the operating lamp in the START / STOP button (16) lights up.

Deactivating the Preset Time

To deactivate the preset time setting again, press the TIMER button (11). The operating lamp in the button goes out and the programming is deactivated. However, the preset time is saved until a new time is programmed in or the device has been disconnected from the power supply.

Cleaning and Care

NOTES

  • Before commencing the cleaning, note the safety instructions in the "Safety Instructions" chapter!
  • Do not use any toxic, corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents or scouring sponges to clean the device. These can damage the surface.

  • Clean the permanent filter and the filter insert after every use with mild detergent and warm water or in the dishwasher. Disposse of any basket filter papers that may have been used in an environmentally friendly way.

  • Also clean the coffee tank (2) after every use with mild detergent and warm water. The coffee tank must not be placed in the dishwasher.
  • Wipe down the housing with a damp cloth. If necessary, use a little mild detergent to remove more intense soiling.
  • Check the mains cable regularly for any damage.

Dscaling

Limescale deposits have an adverse effect not only on the quality of the coffee and the water, but they also cause power losses and shorten the lifespan of the device. The thicker a limescale layer is, the more difficult it is to remove.

We therefore recommend regularly removing limescale deposits with a descending agent in accordance with the water quality in your area and how often the device is used (approx. every 2-6 weeks).

The first indications that descending is required are a large amount of steam being produced and slower brewing of the coffee.

For descending we recommend the BEEM premium descaler concentrate. The efficient, food-safe and environmentally friendly BEEM premium descaler concentrate is available from selected specialist stockists, via our website www.beem.de or from our customer service department on request.

Descaling with the BEEM Premium Descaler Concentrate:

  1. Fill the coffee tank (2) up to the coffee cup symbol (14 cups) with a concentrate/water solution of no more than 1:20 (one part concentrate to 20 parts water).
  2. Transfer the solution from the coffee tank to the water tank (7).
  3. Press the START / STOP button (16) to switch on the device.
  4. Allow the descending solution to take effect for some time (min. 20 minutes) and then allow it to run out through the coffee outlet.

  5. To rinse the device, allow two tankfuls (14 cups) of clear water to run through it. The device is now descaled and ready to be used again.

BEEM Robustica - Descaling with the BEEM Premium Descaler Concentrate: - 1

The message REINIGEN (CLEAN) regularly appears on the display (10) as a reminder that the device needs to be cleaned or descaled. The symbol disappears again after two run throughs.

Storage

Disconnect the device from the mains power when it is not going to be used for a prolonged period. Clean the device again if necessary (see the "Cleaning and Care" chapter) and let it dry completely.

Store the device and all accessories in a dry, clean, frost-free place that is protected from direct sunlight and cannot be accessed by children or animals.
