- The knife sharpener is designed to sharpen kitchen knives, penknives and most sports knives. Do not attempt to sharpen axes, crampons or other objects that do not t into the slots on the sharpener.
- When the appliance is being operated, the sharpener must always be placed on a stable surface.
- Sharpened knives are sharper than you think. Be very careful to avoid injury. Do not cut in the direction of your ngers, hands or face and do not slide your nders across the edge of the blade.
- Switch the appliance on before place a blade in the slots. Never sharpen more than one blade at a time.
- When you sharpen knives, you must exert light downward pressure on the blade. Too much pressure may result in jamming the motor.
- It is not necessary to use a lubricant such as oil or water. PARTS
- Only sharpen clean knives. If the knife is dirty, you must wash and dry it before sharpening.
- When sharpening, exert light downward pressure.
- When moving the knife against the grindstone, maintain a constant speed and don’t interrupt the movement.
- Each time, move the knife from the left slot to the right slot, except for blades that must be sharpened on one side only.
- To sharpen the tip of the knife, you must raise the handle of the knife when you reach the tip so that the side of the blade remains in contact with the grindstone.
USE Plug the appliance in and switch on using the on/o button.
STEP 1: “COARSE” SHARPENING
1. Slide the knife into one of the “coarse” sharpening slots
(2 slots on the left-hand side of the appliance carrying the number 1) placing the knife handle as close as possible to the appliance.
2. Pull the knife regularly in the blade-guide slot.
As soon as the knife comes into contact with the sharpening stone, you must pull the handle slowly towards you, exerting constant, light pressure downwards. If you sharpen a knife with a curved blade, you must raise the handle slightly when approaching the tip of the blade so that it remains in contact with the grindstone. Change slot with each stroke. It takes 4 to 5 seconds for a 20 cm blade, 2 to 3 seconds for a shorter blade and 6 seconds for a blade longer than 20 cm in length. Three strokes per slot are enough for the rst step. IMPORTANT;
- Pull the knife toward you as soon as you slide the blade into the slot.
- Never push the blade in the opposite direction.
- Make sure that the pressure you exert is sucient to keep the blade in contact with the grindstone.
STEP 2: “FINE” SHARPENING
1. Slide the knife into one of the “ne” sharpening slots (2 slots on the right-hand side of the appliance
carrying the number 2).
2. Place the knife handle as close as possible to the appliance and pull towards you. This takes about 3
seconds. Change slot each time and carry out three strokes per slot. If, after sharpening, metal fragments remain on your blade, you can remove these as follows:
- Switch o the appliance.
- Slide the blade into the ne sharpening slot again.
- Pull the knife towards you, once on each side.
- The particles that came loose when sharpening will have now disappeared. FREQUENT QUESTIONS I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS AND YET MY KNIVES ARE NOT SHARP. When knives have not been sharpened for a long time, or when they have been sharpened incorrectly, you may need to perform all of the above steps again. Hardened steel knives take more time to become sharp. In this case, you must repeat the steps above until the knives are sharp. We recommend that you sharpen your knives regularly to make sure they are always ready to use. THE APPLIANCE STOPS FROM TIME TO TIME. This is a safety feature. You may have exerted too much pressure on the grindstone. Light downward pressure is sucient, just enough to ensure that the knife stays in contact with the grindstone. If you exert too much pressure, you will not achieve an even result.21 DO9204KS www.domo-elektro.be
HOW DO I GET REALLY GOOD RESULTS? Leave the knife to rest in the slot. This way, the knife will be positioned diagonally against the grindstone. If you sharpen both sides this way, you’ll achieve good results. I SOMETIMES SEE SPARKS COMING OFF THE GRINDSTONE. This happens more frequently with knives that have a high carbon content (generally good quality knives) than with cheaper knives. This is completely normal. CAN I USE THIS APPLIANCE TO SHARPEN KNIVES WITH SERRATED BLADES? It is possible, except for electric knives or knives that are serrated on both sides. For knives with serrated blades, you can only use the right had side of the appliance. We recommend that you only sharpen the smooth side of the knife. If you sharpen the serrated edge of the knife, the teeth will disappear over time, but you will still be able to use the knife.
