Important safety instructions
- Caution: do not use the appliance in the vicinity of a bath, shower or swimming-pool, over a washbasin filled

with water or near any other receptacle containing water.
Protect the appliance from moisture and splashing water and do not operate it with wet hands.
- In the vicinity of any water source, there is a risk even when the appliance is switched off. Therefore, always remove the plug from the wall socket after use, especially if the appliance is being used in a bathroom.
Additional protection is available by fitting an earth-leakage circuit-breaker with a rated tripping current not exceeding 30mA into your bathroom installation. Please consult a qualified electrician.
- The heating plates operate at very high temperatures. Caution: skin contact with these parts may cause burns. Do not touch any part of the appliance except
the grip area.
To prevent damage to the hair caused by the high temperature, contact between the hair and the heating plates should be limited to a few seconds at a time.
-
Do not use the appliance on synthetic hair-pieces or wigs, as the heat emitted might cause damage to the synthetic fibres.
-
Before the appliance is used, the main body as well as any attachments should be checked thoroughly for any defects. If the appliance, for instance, has been dropped onto a hard surface, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on its operational safety.
The power cord should be regularly examined for any signs of damage. In the event of such damage being found, the appliance must no longer be used.
-
Do not operate the appliance if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord. Damage cannot always be detected from the outside; the entire unit should therefore be checked by a qualified technician before it is used again.
-
To prevent damage to the power cord, - do not bend or kink the cable, especially where it leaves the housing, - do not pull on the cord, - do not coil the cord around the appliance.
-
Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.
-
Take special care not to let any hot parts of the appliance come into contact with the scalp, ears or face.
-
Do not allow the power cord to touch hot surfaces.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket
-
after use,
-
in case of any malfunction, and
-
before cleaning the appliance.
-
When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
-
Do not place the appliance on any surfaces sensitive to heat during or immediately after use.
- This appliance is not intended for use by any person (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. - Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children, as they are a potential source of danger e.g. from suffocation.
- No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
- This appliance is intended for domestic use only and not for commercial applications.
- In order to comply with safety regulations and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical appliances must be carried out by qualified personnel, including the replacement of the power cord. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the appendix to this manual.
Before using for the first time
Clean the appliance and the heating plates before use as described in the section 'General care and cleaning'.
Temperature selection
To prevent the hair from being damaged, always start with a low temperature setting, e.g. 120 - about 150^ for thin or sensitive hair, 160 - about 190^ for thicker hair. If the hair can be straightened at that setting in two cycles, no further increase in temperature is necessary, as the optimum setting has already been reached.
Operation
- The appliance should only be used on dry or almost dry hair.
- Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet.
- Use the On/Off switch to turn the appliance on.
- Use the temperature control to set the desired level, observing the above instructions. Pre-heating starts as shown by the red indicator light.
- During the heating phase, the appliance should be placed on a firm, heat-resistant surface.
- Once the desired temperature has been reached, the indicator light changes to green.
Take each strand of hair as close as possible to the roots and place it between the heating plates. - Bring the two arms together on the hair and gently pull through the hair, starting from the roots and working your way out to the ends.
- Open the arms.
- Check whether the result is as desired.
- If you wish the shaping to be more pronounced, repeat the process, allowing the heat to take effect slightly longer, or dividing the hair into smaller strands.
- Switch off after use, remove the plug from the wall socket, place the appliance on a heat-resistant surface and allow it to cool down.
General care and cleaning
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
- The exterior of the appliance may be wiped with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
- The heating plates may be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, using a mild
detergent. Ensure that they are thoroughly wiped dry afterwards.
Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
