Important safety instructions ■ Do not use the appliance in the vicinity of a bath, shower or swimming-pool, over a washbasin filled with water or any other receptacle containing water. There is also a risk when the appliance is switched off. Additional protection is offered by fitting an earth-leakage circuit-breaker with a rated tripping current not exceeding 30mA into your home installation. Please consult a qualified electrician. ■ Protect the appliance from moisture and splashing water and do not operate it with wet hands. ■ Before the appliance is used, the main body as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance. ■ Switch off and remove the adapter from the wall socket - after use, - in case of any malfunction during use, - before cleaning the appliance. ■ Do not leave the appliance unattended. ■ Caution: the trimming blade is extremely sharp; to prevent injuries, ensure that at all times during use the blade does not touch the skin. ■ This appliance is not intended for use by any person (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. ■ Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. ■ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with. ■ This appliance is intended for domestic use only and not for commercial applications. ■ In order to comply with safety regulations and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical appliances must be carried out by qualified personnel, including the replacement of the power cord of the adapter. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the appendix to this manual. Connection to the mains supply Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the adapter. Charging process Before using the appliance for the first time the 9battery must be fully charged, which will take about one hour. However, the appliance can remain on charge for a longer period without damage or danger. If you experience a considerable decrease in trimming performance, or if the indicator light shows red, switch off the appliance and recharge the battery.
Insert the connecting plug of the adapter into the corresponding jack on the charging base.
Ensure that the trimmer is switched off and place it in the charging base.
Insert the adapter into a suitable wall socket. The charging process begins automatically and is shown by the rapid- flashing red indicator light on the charging base.
When the battery is fully charged, the indicator light shows a slow-flashing green light.
Once the charging process is complete, always remove the adapter from the wall socket first before disconnecting the jack from the charging base.
While charging, the transformer within the adapter will become warm. This is perfectly normal and safe and does not indicate a malfunction of any kind.
If the appliance has not been used for a long period, the capacity of the battery may decrease by a certain amount. However, full capacity will be restored after several charge/discharge cycles. Use Cutting length fine adjustment The cutting length is adjustable, from 1 to 3 mm, in five steps by turning the cutting length control back or forth, as required. With the control turned back all the way (the flat section is visible), the cutting length is 1mm. With it turned forward all the way, the cutting length is 3mm. Trimming head When fitting a trimming head, ensure that it is safely locked by the locking buttons on either side. To remove a trimming head, push it away to one side. 3/6 mm and 9/12 mm trimming heads The trimming heads provide cutting lengths of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm. Set the control in such a way that the markings on the adjustment wheel are properly aligned with the corresponding dots on the housing. Tapered trimming head The tapered trimming head is designed for cutting the hair while avoding a 'stepped' effect. In this way, the hair above the ears is cut shorter, while remaining longer towards the top of the head. For the right side of the head, the attachment marked 'Right Taper' should be used; for the opposite side use the one marked 'Left Taper'. Start trimming from the back of the head and cut the hair against its natural direction of growth towards the temples, before changing the attachment to trim the opposite side. Operation ■ Before each use, always put a few drops of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the trimming blade.
Always start with the highest setting of the push-on comb.
The hair should first be combed, and then generally cut against its natural direction.
For longer hair-cuts use the push-on comb or a normal comb.
Cut from bottom to top with the trimming comb lying against the head; lead the appliance upwards through the hair, moving it gradually away from the head at the same time.
For a shaped cut, reverse the appliance and shorten the hair from top to bottom without using the push-on comb. 10Removing the batteries Battery replacement
If a battery pack proves defective or ceases to operate properly, it may be replaced. To remove the pack, press the release button on the rear of the appliance and take out the old pack. Replacement packs may be ordered from the Severin Service. Care and Cleaning ■ It is essential to switch off the appliance and then remove the adapter from the wall socket before cleaning and oiling. ■ To avoid the risk of electric shock, the appliance and the adapter must not be immersed in liquid or even allowed to come into contact with liquid.
If necessary, the exterior surfaces of the charging base and hair trimmer may be wiped with a dry, lint-free cloth. Trimming comb and trimming blade
After each use, use the cleaning brush to remove hair from between the trimming comb and the blade. The trimming head itself can be removed for occasional thorough cleaning, by using the thumbs to push the head gently down towards the base of the appliance. ■ Before use, and again after every 15 minutes’ operation,, put a few drops of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the trimming blade and then switch the appliance on briefly to ensure that the oil is evenly distributed. Regular oiling will guarantee good cutting performance over a long period and a long service life.
When the appliance is not in use, put the protective cover over the trimming comb. Battery pack and battery disposal Remember to protect our environment. Do not dispose of the rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack contained in the hair trimmer in your domestic garbage. All batteries must be disposed of through the proper local ‘special garbage collection points’. Disposal Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
