YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical appliances may expose people to hazards that can cause severe injury as well as death. The use of electrical products may create hazards that include, but are not limited to, injury, fire, electric shock and electrical system damage. These instructions are intended to provide you with the information you need to use the product correctly and to avoid such hazards.

1. WARNING Read all instructions before using this heater.
2. WARNING NEVER leave the operating unit unattended.
3. WARNING This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, DO NOT let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Use handles when moving this heater. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and keep them away from all sides of the heater.
4. WARNING Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or those who are physically challenged.
5. WARNING ALWAYS unplug heater when not in use.
6. WARNING DO NOT operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug, any heater that malfunctions, or any heater that has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
7. WARNING For residential use only.
8. WARNING DO NOT use outdoors.
9. WARNING This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, and similar indoor locations. DO NOT locate heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container.
10. WARNING DO NOT run cord under carpeting. DO NOT cover cord with throw rags, runners, or similar coverings. DO NOT route cord under furniture or appliances. Arrange cord away from traffic areas and where it will not be a tripping hazard.
11. WARNING This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the

risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature.

1. WARNING This heater draws 12.5 amps during operation. To prevent overloading a circuit, DO NOT plug the heater into a circuit that already has other appliances working.
2. WARNING It is normal for the plug to feel warm to the touch; however, a loose fit between the AC outlet (receptacle) and plug may cause overheating and distortion of the plug. Contact a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn outlet.
3. WARNING To disconnect the heater, first turn off the product, then grip the plug body and pull it from the wall outlet. DO NOT pull by the cord.
4. WARNING DO NOT insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause electric shock, fire, or damage to the heater.
5. WARNING To prevent a possible fire, DO NOT block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. DO NOT use on soft surfaces, like a bed, or where openings may become blocked.
6. WARNING A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside DO NOT use it in areas where gasoline, paint or flammable liquids are used or stored.

7. WARNING Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

8. WARNING ALWAYS plug heater directly into a wall outlet/receptacle. DO NOT use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip).

9. WARNING NEVER tamper with this product or attempt to fix it. Any tampering with, or modification of this product can result in serious injury, death, or fire. DO NOT open. Risk of electric shock. There are no user serviceable parts inside.
10. WARNING DO NOT remove product labels that contain warnings or safety instruction.
11. CAUTION The output of this heater may vary and its temperature may become intense enough to burn exposed skin. Use of this heater is not recommended for persons with reduced sensitivity to heat or an inability to react to avoid burns.
12. CAUTION Before cleaning, or storage, or when not in use, turn the product's controls to the OFF position and unplug the heater from the electrical outlet and allow to cool.

13. CAUTION Place the heater on a firm, level, open surface free from obstructions and at least 3 feet (0.9m) away from any combustible materials. DO NOT use on an unstable surface such as bedding or deep carpeting. Be sure the heater is not in a position where it may be tripped over by small children or pets.

14. CAUTION If your home has aluminum wiring have a licensed electrician check your receptacle's connections. When using a 1500 watt heater, aluminum wire connections can cause a safety issue.

15. WARNING Hyperthermia can result in death. Symptoms of hyperthermia include high body temperature, headache, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, dizziness, fainting, and rapid pulse. If you begin to experience symptoms related to hyperthermia, turn off heater and seek medical attention.
16. WARNING To avoid excessive room temperature which can cause hyperthermia. DO NOT leave product running unattended in a confined space around children, or individuals with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

HCE323/HCE353 SERIES ONLY

WARNING: CHEMICAL BURN HAZARD.

Keep batteries away from children. This product contains a lithium button/coin cell battery. If a new or used lithium button/coin cell battery is swallowed or enters the body, it can cause severe internal burns and can lead to death in as little as 2 hours. ALWAYS completely secure the battery compartment. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product, remove the batteries, and keep it away from children. If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention. The cells must be disposed of properly, including keeping them away from children; even used cells may cause injury.

ABOUT CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY

Ceramic heaters generate heat by passing electricity through heating wires embedded in ceramic plates. In the Honeywell Ceramic Tower Heater, air is drawn into the back of the heater by a fan, through the ceramic element and out the front of the heater to gently introduce warm air into the room.

This type of heating technology provides consistent, even heating.

For best results, place heater on the floor and allow heater to run for 5-10 minutes to reach maximum heat output.

SETUP

The Honeywell Ceramic Tower Heater requires no assembly. Simply unpack heater and save all packaging materials for off-season storage.

Place the heater on a firm, level, open surface free from obstructions and at least 3 feet (0.9m) away from any wall or combustible material.

DO NOT use on an unstable surface such as bedding or deep carpeting.

BE SURE THE HEATER IS NOT IN A POSITION WHERE IT MAY BE A TRIPPING HAZARD.

MOVING THE HEATER

This heater is equipped with a Cool Touch handle for your convenience.

Turn off the heater.

Allow it to cool for ten minutes.

Unplug heater and move.

OPERATION

NOTE: Never leave an operating unit unattended.

With heater in the OFF position, plug the heater into a polarized 1.20V outlet. DO NOT FORCE THE POLARIZED PLUG INTO THE OUTLET, it will only fit one way.
With 80^ oscillation, the Honeywell Ceramic Tower Heater is versatile and designed to be placed in the center of the room or closer to the wall (at least 3 feet way) for maximum convection room heating.
Turn heater on by pressing the Power Button (O). The Power Indicator will illuminate and the heater will start in the Constant On Hill Level Setting.
The heater has two operational modes - continuous heating or heating with a thermostat setting where the heater cycles
To set a Continuous Heat Setting, press - Choose Low use up to 900 watts of power (up to 750 watts for the HC3.1 (Selesion) - Choose High to use up to 1500 watts of power

NOTE: Controls/features will vary slightly by model

NOTE: The Low setting does not require as much electricity to operate, it is more energy efficient and may be a better option if you are concerned about saving energy.

• In the continuous heat mode, make sure to manually turn the heater OFF when done using this appliance.
  To set the Thermostat, press The Thermostat Control Buttons and choose your Desired Temperature. The Desired Temperature will flash five times and then the Current Temperature in the room will display as a steady red. On the HCE305/HCE309 unit models only, there are 4 pre-set comfort settings from which to choose: 65^ , 70^ , 75^ , 80^ . These are your desired room temperature settings.

NOTE: If the Current Temperature is higher than your Desired Temperature, the heater will be off until the room temperature falls below this setting or until the Desired Temperature is changed.

• Press the Timer Button to select 1, 2, 4, or 8 hour setting. The heater will run for that chosen period in the selected mode, counting down the hours and automatically shutting the heater off after the selected time has passed.
  If unit has an oscillation feature, press the Oscillate Button 6um on or off the oscillation function.
  To shut the heater off, press the Power Button and the heater will begin Powering Down. The heater will shut off after counting down 6 seconds in the Temperature Display to cool down the internal components.
  It is important to allow the heater to run through the cool down phase. DO NOT unplug the heater until it has completed the cool down cycle.

SAFETY FEATURES

The Honeywell Ceramic Tower Heater is equipped with several devices and features for added protection:

A 360^ tip-over switch that disables the heater if it is tipped in any direction.

A high temperature safety sensor prevents overheating

A thermal cut-off fuse will permanently shut down the heater should it operate at a higher than normal temperature. High temperature plastic.

Cool to touch housing and handle.

Thermal insulated wiring for heat resistance and reinforced wire connection help protect against loose connections.

HCE323/HCE353 Series only also has a Safeguard Motion Sensor that shuts the heater off if an object gets too close to the motion sensor.

SAFEGUARD™ MOTION SENSOR (HCE323/HCE353 SERIES ONLY)

The Honeywell Safeguard™ Motion Sensor Digital Tower (Model series HCE323/HCE353 only) is equipped with an additional safety feature. If an object is placed too close to the heater, the Motion Sensor Light (Fig. 2) will blink to warn you that there is an obstruction. If the object is not removed, the sensor will disable the heater, turning the heater off until the object is removed. The heater will restart after a few seconds once the object is removed.

Press the Safeguard Motion Sensor Button (Fig. 3) to turn on or off this feature.

REMOTE CONTROL (HCE323/HCE353 SERIES ONLY)

The Honeywell Safeguard™ Motion Sensor Ceramic Digital Tower Heaters can be completely controlled with the remote. This remote uses a button cell type battery which comes included in the remote.

To activate the battery, simply pull the plastic tab.

Place remote control in the holder in the back of the heater when not in use.

This product contains batteries, please do not dispose of them in a landfill check local recycling.

Press and hold both Thermostat Control Buttons Jules seconds to change between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

NOTE: The Remote will not change between Fahrenheit and Celsius - only the controls on the heater.

For the HCE305 and HCE309 units, there is no option to change Fahrenheit and Celsius.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

Periodic cleaning of the filter is recommended. Turn Off (O) and unplug heater. Allow it to cool. Remove the Filter Cover and clean/vacuum the Filter. (Fig. 4)

NOTE: This pertains to all heaters in the HCE300 Series with the exception of the HCE317 units. The HCE317 units do not contain a permanent filter.

It is recommended that the Ceramic Tower Heater be cleaned at least once a month and before off-season storage.
- Turn Off and unplug heater. Use a dry cloth only to clean the external surfaces of the heater. DO NOT USE WATER, WAXES, POLISHES, OR ANY CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
Clean the Ceramic Tower Heater using the above-mentioned steps. Wrap the cord around the unit. Place in its original box and store it in a cool, dry place.
This heater does not disassemble.

NOTE: HCE317 does not include a Filter or a Filter Cover.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM SOLUTION
If your Honeywell Ceramic Tower Heater shuts off unexpectedly or fails to operate, one of your heater safety features may have been activated to prevent overheating.	Be sure it is plugged in and that the electrical outlet is working. Check for any obstructions. If you find an obstruction, turn the heater OFF (and unplig it. Allow the heater to cool completely, then remove the obstruction. Wait at least 10 minutes, then re- plug the heater in and follow the OPERATION instructions.
