IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
The manufacturer takes every step necessary to ensure utmost product quality and safety. However, as for all electrical appliances, you should follow some basic safety rules to avoid creating a hazard for people, animals and/or property.
Before using the product for the first time and periodically during its lifetime, check the power cord to make sure it is intact. If you observe any damage do not insert the plug, since the power cord must be replaced with a special cord available from your dealer or an authorised service centre.
- Carefully read the directions before using your SOLIS MAXIMA and keep them handy for future reference.
- The appliance is not designed for continuous operation. Do not carry out more than one complete cycle every 2 minutes. In extreme ambient conditions, an intensive use of the appliance may trigger the automatic thermal protection devices. In such a case you must wait until the appliance cools down enough in order to reset the safety devices.
- Do not use the appliance on or in proximity to hot surfaces.
- The casing of this appliance is not protected against the penetration of liquids.
- Do not draw liquids into the vacuum chamber. Should this happen, Immediately dry the vacuum chamber.
- The penetration of water into the evacuation system can lead to defects of the equipment. This is not covered by warranty.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water and do not use it if the cord or plug are wet; should they get wet during use, immediately pull out the plug wearing dry rubber gloves. Do not remove or touch the appliance under water until you have pulled out the plug. Do not use the appliance after its removal from water (take it immediately to an authorised service centre or your dealer).
- To avoid burns, do not touch the sealing bar while using the appliance.
- Never use adapters for power supplies different from the one indicated on the bottom of the unit (plate dovetails).
Always unplug the appliance after you finish using it. - Do not open or tamper with the appliance. Servicing may be performed by authorised personnel only. Any unauthorised repairs will invalidate the warranty.
- Using SOLIS MAXIMA at high altitudes (above 1500m ): The vacuum level indicator (vacuum gauge) is an instrument that measures the difference between external pressure (ambient pressure) and the internal vacuum pressure; this means that given the same internal pressure, the vacuum level indicated will depend on the external pressure. Therefore, if you use SOLIS MAXIMA at a certain altitude, the yellow indicator (1) might not become completely green when the maximum vacuum has been reached; however, this does not mean that the vacuum level reached is any lower. Then turn the vacuum knob (2) counterclockwise until the automatic sealing process is activated (the yellow indicator lights up).
- The Manufacturer, the Retailer and the Importer are responsible for safety, reliability and performance only if: a) the appliance is used in accordance with the operating instructions; b) the electrical system of the premises where the appliance is used is in conformity with current laws.
Use only original SOLIS bags and accessories SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Warning: Do not store the machine with the LOCK buttons engaged
Before use, always thoroughly clean your appliance and any accessories coming in contact with food (containers, caps, jars etc.) as directed in the "CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS" paragraph.
1 Positioning the appliance
Position the appliance in a dry place on a level surface, making sure that the work area in front of the appliance itself is clear of obstacles and there is enough room to accommodate the bags with the food to be packed. Plug the power cord into a power socket corresponding to the voltage of the appliance (see technical specifications).
2 Tips on using bags
SOLIS bags are available in two widths: 20 and 30 cm. Choose the bag size suited for the food you intend to preserve. Check that the bag you are going to use is at least 8 cm longer than the food to be packaged, taking into account an additional 2 cm for each time the bag will be subsequently reused.
3 Adjusting the vacuum level
The higher the vacuum level set with the knob (2), the greater the quantity of air that will be removed from the SOLIS container or bag you are using. This means a longer storage life for the packaged food. However, vacuum adjustments are allowed so that you can also package the most «fragile» foods in SOLIS bags, that is to say foods that would be crushed by the effect of outside atmospheric pressure if the vacuum level were set too high. By setting the value on 1 or 2, i.e. without creating a vacuum, you can package foods such as potato crisps or lettuce.
4 Adjusting the Sealing Time
In normal conditions, each time you use SOLIS MAXIMA you should turn the knob (5) to 7 for the first seal and to 5 for subsequent sealing operations. If the seal is not complete, gradually increase the setting until obtaining a smooth and regular wrinkle-free seam across the mouth of the bag; the characteristic SOLIS stripes should no longer be visible.
Adjusting the knob to high values (8 and 9) is recommended when packaging foods that are moist or release liquids. Low settings should be used for rapid packaging of fragile foods that do not require a vacuum. When using SOLIS containers you can set the knob (5) on 1.
Note: If you are using pre-cut bags, go directly to step 6 below.
5 Making bags from SOLIS rolls
- Unroll the desired length of material (fig. A), close the Lid (11), press the bag cutter blade (10) and keeping it pressed down, start from either side of the bag and slide it for the necessary distance according to width. In this way you will cleanly and precisely cut a piece to the desired size (fig. B).
- Raise the lid (11) to remove the cut bag and reposition the roll in the bag compartment (15) (fig. C). Then seal one open end of the cut bag as directed below: position either of the two open ends of the bag on the sealing bar (18) with the smooth side up (fig. D). Warning: make sure the end of the bag is not inside the vacuum chamber (17) or on the sealing gasket (14).
- Lower the lid of the appliance completely (11) and turn the vacuum knob (2) to the MAX" position.
- Press the ON(I)/OFF(0) switch (8); the green light will remain lit while the machine is on (fig. E).
- Press on the lower part of both push buttons (3) (Lock position) (fig. F) with the palm of your hands until the lever is engaged (you will hear a click). The machine will carry out a vacuum packing cycle. When the package is sealed the lever releases automatically.
-Lift the lid (11) and remove the bag. - If you want to interrupt the vacuum process (e.g. the bag is not properly positioned) you must turn off the SOLIS MAXIMA (if the lever has not released automatically) and press the two push buttons (3) (upper part, Unlock position) (Fig. 6).
- Check the quality of the seal obtained, which should appear as a regular, wrinkle-free crosswise strip with no internal ridges in the bag (fig. H).
6 Vacuum packing with bags cut from a roll or pre-cut bags
- Lift the lid (11) and turn it in the open position.
- Place food in the bag without creasing it excessively or stretching surfaces. Eliminate any liquids or food residues from the area inside the bag that will be sealed.
- Place the bag and its contents in front of the appliance and place the open end inside the vacuum chamber (17) (fig. Ⅰ).
- Lower the lid of the appliance completely (11) and turn the vacuum knob (2) to the MAX" position.
- Press the ON(O)/OFF(0) switch (B); the green light will remain lit while the machine is on (Fig.
- Check the quality of the seal obtained, which should appear as a regular, wrinkle-free crosswise strip with no internal ridges in the bag. (fig. L)
7 How to use the MAN VAC button (6) Pressing this button will cancel the preselected dial setting for the Vacuum Level (2). The pump will continue drawing out air until the button (MAN VAC) is pressed. When you release the button the machine will automatically start sealing for the time previously set with the knob (5) (fig. M).
8 How to use the MAN SEAL button (7) Pressing this button after the yellow light goes on will immediately activate the sealing process. This allows you to prevent delicate, fragile foods from being crushed (e.g. biscuits, etc.). The sealing time will naturally depend on the time you have previously set with knob (5) (fig. N).
9 Vacuum packing In SOLIS containers or In containers sealed with SOLIS Universal Caps with new knob
The SOLIS containers and the SOLIS Universal Caps with star-shaped knob (fig. 0) make vacuum packing easier, because the connection hose can be directly introduced into the knob central hole (fig. P).
SOLIS Universal Caps, available in two diameters (100 mm and 125 mm), are to be used on jars for preserving food and bowls and receptacles made of tempered glass. The Universal Caps work just like the Caps for SOLIS containers.
WARNING: When using Universal Caps do not use plastic or glass containers that are not suitable since they could explode under the vacuum pressure of the appliance and cause injury.
- Fill the container leaving at least 3cm of room between the contents and upper rim and position the lid on the container. Turn the knob to the "VACUUM" position" (Fig. 0).
- Connect the container lid knob to the appliance air inlet (4) by means of the connection hose (19) (fig. P).

- Make sure the SOLIS MAXIMA has been plugged in properly. Check the electric socket by plugging another appliance into it.
- The SOLIS MAXIMA will stop automatically if overheated. Allow it to cool down for 15 minutes and try again.
- Check for faults in the power cord or the plug.
- Should you detect a fault, do not use the appliance.
The SOLIS MAXIMA fails to apply the first seal on the bag cut from the roll
- Make sure the bag cut from the roll is properly positioned as described in the paragraph: «Making bags from SOLUS rolls»
The SOLIS MAXIMA does not create a complete vacuum in the bags
- The Sealing Time knob (5) might have been positioned on too low a setting during the first sealing operation. The Sealing Time knob (5) should be positioned between × 5 and × 7 . Carry out a second sealing operation along the same line and repeat the vacuum-forming process.
- It might be necessary to raise the Vacuum Level (2) to a higher setting; Turn the Vacuum Knob (2) clockwise to increase the vacuum.
To seal the bag properly, you must make sure that the open end remains completely inside the Vacuum Chamber. - Make sure that the Sealing Bar, the Sealing Gaskets and Airlight Gaskets are free of impurities. After cleaning them, put them properly back in place.
- The SOLIS bag might have a hole in it. To check the bag, seal it with air inside, place it underwater and apply pressure on it. The appearance of bubbles means that there is a leak. Re seal or use another bag.
The SOLIS MAXIMA does not seal the bag property
-
Whenever the machine does not seal the bag completely, turn the Sealing Time knob (5) clockwise to increase the sealing time, not seal the bag properly.
-
If the Sealing Bar overheats and melts the bag, you may have to raise the lid and allow the Sealing Bar to cool down for a few minutes.
The SOLIS MAXIMA is built in conformity with current safety standards. Overheating will cause it to turn off automatically. Allow the appliance to cool down for 15 minutes and try again.
The SOLIS bag does not maintain a vacuum after being sealed
- Leaks along the seam may be caused by creases, crumbs, grease or liquids. Reopen the bag, clean the upper inside part of the bag and remove any foreign material from the Sealing Bar before resealing it.
- Check that the bag has no holes in it which have caused air to leak in. Use paper napkins to protect any sharp edges on the contents of the bag.
The SOLIS MAXIMA does not create a vacuum in the containers
- By means of the Connection Hose, connect the container lid (or the Cap Attachment if necessary) to the Air Inlet of the appliance.
- Leave enough room (at least 3cm ) between the contents and the top of the jar or container.
- If liquids come out during the vacuum-packaging process, remember that they must first be chilled in a refrigerator, not left at room temperature.
- It might be necessary to raise the Vacuum Level (2) to a higher setting; Turn the Vacuum knob (2).
clockwise to reach the maximum vacuum. Check that the rim of the jar or container and the universal lid are not damaged in the sealing area. Wipe the rim and cap clean with a cloth moistened with lukewarm water and repeat the vacuum-packing process. - Make sure that the gasket of the container cap or the universal cap is set properly in place and is not damaged.
SOLIS containers or SOLIS Universal Caps do not maintain a vacuum
-
Make sure that the arrow on the knob of the container cap is positioned on VACUUM : before creating a vacuum in the container and it is positioned on CLOSED after a vacuum is formed
-
Make sure that the 0-ring beneath the knob of the container cap or the universal cap is set properly in place.
SOLIS Family containers do not maintain a vacuum
- Make sure that the gasket beneath the central button (20) of the container cap is set properly in place and is not damaged.
