Frequently Asked Questions - AFWB5QBK13 WestBend

How to preheat the WestBend air fryer?
Press the Preheat button (preheat). The default temperature appears, then the time. Adjust if necessary, then press Start. Once preheating is complete, the appliance turns off. Open the basket, place the food, then select the desired cooking function and press Start.
Do I need to shake or turn the food during cooking?
Yes, for some foods like fries, an audible reminder prompts you to shake or turn the food halfway through cooking for even cooking. Small foods particularly benefit from this action.
Can the basket and grill be washed in the dishwasher?
Yes, the basket and grill are dishwasher safe, on the top rack. You can also wash them by hand with hot soapy water.
What is the maximum amount of fries to cook at once?
For optimal results, do not exceed 500 g (16 oz) of fries at a time. This ensures even and crispy cooking.
How to make homemade fries with this fryer?
Peel and cut potatoes into sticks, soak them in water for 30 minutes, dry them, then toss with 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil. Remove excess oil, place in the basket and use the Fries preset (about 18-25 min at 350°F / 180°C), shaking halfway through.
Can I use oil in the air fryer?
Yes, but in very small amounts. For homemade fries, a little oil improves crispiness. Avoid very fatty foods like sausages. The appliance works with minimal oil for healthy cooking.

After cooling, clean the heating element with a cleaning brush and hot soapy water to remove food residue. Do not use metal or abrasive utensils.
What to do if the fryer emits smoke or an odor during first use?

BEFORE USE

Thank you for buying this top quality air fryer. You will now be able to cook a wide assortment of food in a healthier manner – with little or no oil!

The air fryer uses hot air, in combination with high-speed air circulation, and a top grill to prepare your dishes quickly and easily. The ingredients are heated from all sides, at once, and there is no need to add oil in most cases.

Before using your new appliance, follow these instructions:

  1. Remove all packing material.
  2. Remove any stickers or labels from the appliance - other than the rating label.
  3. Thoroughly clean the appliance parts using warm water, some liquid washing soap, and a non-abrasive sponge.
  4. Wipe the inside and outside of the appliance with a moist cloth.
  5. Place the appliance on a stable, horizontal and level surface that is also heat resistant.
  6. Place the rack in the frying tray properly.

Do not fill the frying tray with oil or any other liquid.

Do not put anything on top of the appliance. This disrupts the airflow and affects the air-frying result.

HELPFUL HINTS

Tips:

  • Smaller food usually require a slightly shorter preparation time than larger food.
  • Shaking smaller foods halfway through the cooking time improves the end result and can help prevent unevenly fried ingredients.
  • Lightly coat fresh potatoes with a little oil for a crispier result.
  • Do not air fry extremely greasy ingredients such as sausages in the air fryer.
  • Snacks that can be prepared in an oven can also be prepared in the air fryer.
  • For optimal result, we recommend air frying up to 500 grams (16oz) of fries at a time.
  • Use pre-made dough to prepare filled snacks quickly and easily. Pre-made dough also requires a shorter preparation time than home-made dough.
  • The air fryer can also be used to reheat food. To reheat food, simply press the reheat preset. The default temperature will appear on the screen, then flash to display the default to time. The default time and temperature can be adjusted by pressing the +/- buttons associated with the time or temperature.

HOME-MADE FRIES: For the best results, pre-baked fries are recommended. If you want to make home-made fries, follow the steps below:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into sticks.
  2. Soak the potato sticks in a bowl of water for at least 30 minutes. Then remove the sticks from the water, and dry them on paper towels.
  3. Pour 12 tablespoon of olive oil in a bowl, add the potato sticks, and mix until the sticks are coated with oil.
  4. Remove the potato sticks from the bowl with kitchen tongs or other utensil so that excess oil stays behind in the bowl. Put the sticks in the tray.

Note: To prevent excess oil from collecting at the bottom of the frying tray, do not tilt the bowl to pour all the sticks into the tray at once.

  1. Fry the potato sticks according to the instructions provided in the Temperature Guide below.
