How to turn on the ARCHOS 97 XS tablet for the first time?
Connect the charger, the tablet turns on automatically. If it does not turn on, press and hold the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds. Then follow the setup wizard to configure the language, WiFi and Google account.
What to do if the touchscreen does not respond correctly?
Go to Settings > Repair and formatting and select Touchscreen calibration. If the problem persists, restart the tablet by holding the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds.
How to connect the tablet to a WiFi network?
In the status bar at the bottom right, tap the time twice to display quick settings. Enable WiFi, then select your network and enter the password. Check "Show password" to avoid errors.

Getting Started

Charging

Charge your device by plugging your power cable into the micro-USB port.

The ARCHOS device will turn on and start charging.

The charging indicator light is on when the battery is charging.

It will blink when the battery is charged.

You can use your ARCHOS whilst it charges.

IMPORTANT: When the battery is completely empty and you plug in your device, the charging indicator light will turn on then start to blink. The indicator light blinking rapidly means that the device is charging but does not yet have enough power to start. This charging when off may take some time. Once the device has charged enough to start, it will switch on and display the ARCHOS boot logo.

TIPS:

To receive more complete service, please register your product. From your tablet, select the "Apps button", then select "Online registration" and follow the on-screen instructions. From a computer, go to www.archos.com/register.

Through the Wizard

The first time you start up your ARCHOS, the installation wizard will help you set up your device:

  • Touch-screen calibration
  • Language
  • Date & time
  • WiFi connection
  • Location service options
  • 3rd party apps
  • Accelerometer calibration

TIPS: We recommend that you set up your device in the WiFi zone of the network that you will regularly be using.

Connectivity to a WiFi Network

WARNING: Make sure that you are in a WiFi zone. You can access the WiFi settings quickly from the status bar in the bottom right corner of the screen.

  1. Select the time in the status bar. The status dashboard is displayed.
  2. Select the time a second time in the status dashboard. The quick settings will be displayed.
  3. Select "WiFi" to open the WiFi settings menu.
  4. If the WiFi is off, slide the WiFi switch to the "ON" position. Once the WiFi is on, the ARCHOS will scan for WiFi networks in range.
  5. Select the name of the network you want to connect to.

Private networks are shown with a lock icon and will require you to enter your password.

TIPS:

  • When entering a WiFi password, we recommend that you select "Show password" so you can see the characters you are typing.
  • To get the correct WiFi password (or settings) for the network, contact the WiFi network provider.
  • If your WiFi is on and you are in range of a network that you previously connected to, your ARCHOS will automatically attempt to connect to it.

Airplane mode:

To activate/deactivate all wireless connections, especially when flying.

WiFi:

To turn on/off your WiFi connection.

- Auto-rotate screen:

To activate/deactivate automatic screen orientation as you turn your ARCHOS.

- Brightness:

To adjust the screen brightness.

- Notifications:

To activate/deactivate incoming notifications.

- Settings:

To access all your settings.

The Recent Apps

Opens a list of thumbnail images of apps you've worked with recently:

  • To open an app, tap it.
  • To close an app, swipe it left or right.

Getting familiar with Android™

New firmware for your device

The Android™ operating system is periodically updated to bring new features. When a new firmware is available, select the "A" icon from the status bar and follow the instructions.

Google account

A Google account lets you take full advantage of any Google apps and services that you may want to use.

  1. Go to "Settings > Personal > Accounts & sync".
  2. Select "Add account".
  3. Select the account type "Google".
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to enter information about the account.

The extended home screen

Navigate between different home screen panels by swiping left and right.

Moving a home screen item

Hold your finger onto it until the positioning gridlines appear, then slide it to the desired location, and release your finger.

Removing a home screen item

Select and hold it, slide your finger towards the top of the screen and drop it over the "Remove" icon.

Uninstalling an item

From the "All apps" screens, select and hold it, slide your finger towards the top of the screen and drop it over "Uninstall" bin.

Creating application folders

Drop one app icon over another on a home screen and the two icons will be combined.

Widgets

Select the "All Apps" icon on your home screen. Select "Widgets" at the top of the screen. From the main Widgets screen, you can move around widgets just as you do for app icons.

Changing your wallpaper

Hold your finger on a home screen at an empty location, then choose from the list.

Locking the touchscreen

From the quick settings dashboard in the status bar, select Settings. In Settings, scroll down and select "Security". Select "Screen lock". Select the type of lock you would like to use. After you set a lock, a lock screen is displayed whenever your screen wakes up, requesting the pattern, PIN or other specified key.

Troubleshooting

If your device is frozen:

Press the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds.

If your device doesn't turn on:

  1. Charge your device.
  2. Press the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds.

If the touchscreen doesn't function correctly:

From Settings > Repair & formatting, select Touch-screen calibration.

If you want to extend the life of your battery:

Decrease the screen brightness and turn off the wireless connections if not in use.

If your device functioning is too slow:

Close all apps which are not currently used.

If your WiFi reception is too low:

Make sure you are not far from the WiFi hotspot.

Update the firmware of the device from http://www.archos.com/support.

Reset and redefine your connection parameters.

Contact your WiFi connection provider.

Getting started

Charging

Connect the device, plugging the power cables to the micro-USB port.

The ARCHOS device turns on when the charger is connected.

During battery charging, the charging indicator lights up.

It will turn off when the battery is fully charged.

You can use the ARCHOS device while it is charging.

WARNING: When turning on the device with a completely discharged battery, the charging indicator light will turn on, then go off. The rapid blinking of the indicator means that the device is charging, but the energy for startup is insufficient. The charging process in the off state may take some time. After the device has charged enough to start up, it will turn on and display the ARCHOS boot screen.

TIP:

Register your device to get more complete service. Touch the Apps button on the home screen, then select Online registration (Interactive registration) and follow the on-screen instructions. When using a computer, go to www.archos.com/register.

Touch the element on the screen "All applications" and hold your finger, drag it to the upper part of the screen and release to uninstall.

Creating an application shortcut:

Place the shortcut of one application on top of another on the home screen, and the two shortcuts will merge.

Widgets:

Tap and hold the "All apps" shortcut on the home screen. Tap and hold the widget at the top of the screen. On the home screen, widgets can be placed in the same way as app shortcuts.

Changing wallpapers:

Press and hold on an empty area of the home screen, then select a wallpaper from the list.

If the device does not turn on:

1. Charge the device. 2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
