Remove all packaging material and check that all parts are complete and undamaged. In the event of an incomplete or damaged delivery, please contact the manufacturer. Start-up DANGER! Place the toaster on a flat, heat-resistant surface. If the surface is sensitive, place a heat-resistant board under the toaster. DANGER! There is a risk of burns! The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be very high when the device is operating. Touch only the controls of the toaster. DANGER! There is a risk of the toast burning if you use anything other than standard slices of bread that are suitable for toasting. Initial start-up Insert the mains plug into a socket that is always easily accessible. Set both browning controls (6) to the setting "6" (highest level). Operate the toaster three times without bread. To do so, slide both start levers (2) downwards. The indicator light next to the CANCEL button (3) lights up during operation. The device may briefly emit an odour or light smoke when it is used for the first time. This is normal and completely harmless. Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation by opening a window. Toasting Use the controls on the left side for the two left toast slots (1) and the controls on the right side for the two right toast slots (1). Please note that different types of bread, and the thickness and moisture of the slices affect the browning level. It is best if you keep your bread in its packaging. Standard sliced bread can burn at a browning level that is set too high. First, select a lower browning level (if possible). We recommend that you use, for example, a standard sliced wheat loaf. Dry bread and white bread brown faster than fresh or brown bread. Do not use slices of bread that are too thick or too large. If a slice of bread gets stuck in the toaster, remove the mains plug from the socket and wait until the toaster has cooled down. If necessary, slide the start lever (2) upwards and remove the bread slices. Set the browning control (6) to a lower level if you are not using all four toast slots (1). Insert the mains plug into a socket that is always easily accessible. Set the browning control (6) to the desired browning level. You can adjust the browning level continuously from 1 (light) to 6 (dark). Insert the slices of bread into the toast slots (1). Now, slide the start lever (2) downwards. The indicator light next to the CANCEL button (3) lights up during operation. The inserted slices of bread are now toasted. The toaster switches off automatically once the selected browning level has been reached. The slices of toast are now ejected upwards. Now, remove the slices from the toast slots (1). Clean the toaster as described in the section "Cleaning". During operation, press the CANCEL button (3) to interrupt the toasting process ahead of time. The slices of toast are now directly ejected upwards.SilverCrest STO 1500 A1 English - 11 Press the REHEAT button (4) to heat up the toast directly after you have pressed the start lever (2). The indicator light next to the REHEAT button (4) lights up. The slices of toast are hereby only heated and not toasted. Press the DEFROST button (5) directly after you have pressed the start lever (2) in order to thaw frozen slices of bread and toast them. The indicator light next to the DEFROST button (5) lights up. Please note that the browning level when toasting frozen bread may differ from that when toasting fresh bread. Maintenance / cleaning Maintenance DANGER! Servicing is necessary if the toaster has been damaged or if liquids or objects have penetrated the housing, if the toaster has been exposed to rain or moisture or if it does not work properly or has been dropped. If smoke is produced, or there are any unusual sounds or smells, switch off the toaster immediately and remove the mains plug from the socket. In such cases, the toaster should not be used until it has been inspected by authorised service personnel. Only have qualified personnel carry out the servicing on the device. Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the housing and never use any solvent or cleaner that would corrode the plastic materials. Use a soft brush to remove crumbs in the openings next to the toast slots (1). Remove the crumb tray (8) and empty it. If necessary, clean the crumb tray (8) with a slightly damp cloth. Then replace the crumb tray (8) until it audibly snaps into place. Storage when not in use If you do not want to use the toaster, remove the mains plug from the socket. Wrap the mains cable (9) in the direction of the arrow on the cable rewind (7) on the bottom of the toaster. Ensure that the toaster is kept in a clean, dry location without direct sunlight.SilverCrest STO 1500 A1 English - 13 Troubleshooting The toaster is not working or the start lever (2) does not snap into place. Check whether the mains plug is inserted correctly into the socket. The slices of bread are too light after toasting. Check the setting of the browning control (6) and increase the browning level if necessary. The slices of bread are too dark after toasting. Check the setting of the browning control (6) and reduce the browning level if necessary. The slices of toast are not ejected or remain stuck in the toaster. The slices of bread that were used are too thick. Do not use slices of bread that are too thick.
