SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS General Information This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected. Regarding the instructions for cleaning the surfaces which come in contact with food, please refer to the paragraph “cleaning and maintenance” of the manual.

Warning: Avoid spillage on the

connector of the base. There is a potential risk of injuries from misuse. The heating element surface is subject to residual heat after use. This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as: o Staff kitchen areas in shop, offices and other working environment; o Farm houses; o By clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments; o Bed and breakfast type environments. Read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place. Only use the appliance as described in this manual. In case of damage caused by failure of not living up to this manual the warranty will decay immediately. The manufacturer/importer accepts no liability for damages caused by failure to not living up the manual, a negligent use or use not in accordance with the requirements of this manual. Always remove the power cord and let it cool: o Before moving the unit; o Before the unit is stored; o Before you go mounting or dismantle parts; o Before cleaning or maintenance work; o After use. Only have the appliance repaired by a qualified service center (*). (*)Qualified service center: after-sales service of the manufacturer/importer, which is qualified to carry out repair to avoid any kind of danger. Electricity and heat Before use, check that the mains power supply voltage is the same as the voltage indicated on the appliance. Always plug the appliance into an earthed plug socket. Regularly check the power cord for damage. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to manufacturer or the nearest authorized service agent for examination, repair or electrical or mechanical adjustment. To remove the plug from the plug socket, pull the plug. Do not pull the power cord. Make sure the power cord does not come into contact with hot surfaces or steam. Always remove the plug from the plug socket before you move the appliance. The machine should not be operated by means of an external timer-switch or by means of a separate system with remote control. If an extension cord is absolutely necessary, a 10-ampere cord should be used. Cords rated for less amperage may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high voltage appliance on the same circuit. To protect against electric shock do not immerse cord, plugs, or housing in water or other liquid. Do not touch the appliance if it falls into water. Remove the plug from its socket, turn off the appliance and do not use it again. Do not use the appliance close to hot objects such as a stove or oven. Using the appliance The use of accessory attachment not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries. Only use the appliance indoors, in dry areas away from water. Do not immerse the appliance or the mains plug in water or other liquids. There is danger to life due to electric shock! To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use the appliance outdoors or on wet surfaces. Place the appliance on a stable, level surface from which it cannot fall off. Use the appliance on a flat, dry and heat resistance surface, not on varnished furniture. Place the appliance at least 5cm off the wall or flammable objects (such as curtains, candles or towels). Place the appliance on a stable, level surface and not close to hot objects or open flames (e.g. hotplates). Disconnect the mains plug: after each time operating; if there is any interference with operation; before cleaning. Ensure that the mains cable is not hung over sharp edges and keep it away from hot objects and open flames. Do not use the appliance if the mains cable or plug show signs of damage, if the appliance has fallen on the floor or has other parts been damage. In such cases take the appliance to a specialist for checking and repair if necessary. Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Never leave the appliance unattended during use. Do not remove the lid while the water is boiling.

FIRST USE Remove all packaging from the appliance. Boil at first twice a full jug of water. Discard the boiled water. If you fill the kettle again with water, it cools off the boil-dry protection so you can normally use the kettle again. USE Open the lid. Fill the kettle with a volume of water between the minimum and maximum-filling marks. Too little water will cause the kettle to shut off too early, too much water will cause spilling boiling water. Close the cover securely. Insert the plug into the socket. Press the On/Off Switch button to position “ I ” on the handle and the kettle starts to boil the water. The indicator light will illuminate. Once the water boils, the kettle switches off automatically. Note: Make sure that the switch is not blocked and that the lid is properly closed. The kettle will not turn off when the switch is blocked or if the lid is not closed properly. Boil the water, if desired, one more time. But wait at least 30 seconds after the kettle has been automatically switched off. Pour the water slowly and carefully without tilting too quickly. If the kettle is accidentally switched on without water, the boil-dry protection switches it off automatically. If this happens, let the kettle to cool and fill it with cold water and resume. Ensure that the lid is closed and do not open it while the water boils. When you open the lid during the cooking cycle the steam can cause burns. Be careful when opening the lid when the kettle is hot. After use, remove the plug from the socket. CAUTION! If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may splash.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Always let the kettle cool down first and disconnect the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning. Never immerse the kettle area or cord in water, or allow moisture to contact with these parts. Wipe the appearance of body with a mild and damp cloth or cleaner, never use a poisonous cleaner. Descale regularly, preferably at least once a month and more frequently if your water is very hard. To descale your kettle, use: white vinegar - fill the kettle with half a litre of vinegar - leave to stand for 1 hour without heating citric acid: - boil half a litre of water - add 25g of citric acid and leave to stand for 15 minutes. Empty your kettle and rinse it 5 or 6 times. When your appliance shows defects, you can refer to your salesperson. Your salesperson will make sure any defect will be repaired as soon as possible. Repairs outside the warranty period You can always hand in your appliance to have it repaired outside the warranty period. This will of course not be free of charge. • TOMADO provides a 2-year warranty for all defects caused by hidden deficiencies which render the appliance useless for normal operation.

• The warranty runs from the date of purchase; we advise you to carefully save your receipt.

• Within the warranty period any defects in production or material will be resolved free of charge, by means of reparation, replacement of parts or replacement of the appliance as a whole.

• The warranty certificate has to be filled in by the sales person at the moment of purchase.

• Repairs will only be made under warranty in case it can proven (by means of a filled in warranty card and the receipt) that the day the complaint is filed falls into the warranty period.

• The warranty does not apply when defects or damages result from an accident, misuse, negligence (e.g. incorrect cleansing), or when repairs of alterations have been executed outside the authorized TOMADO service centre (excl. disassembling, as stated in the instruction manual).

• The warranty does not cover any defects arising when the appliance is connected to the wrong outlet voltage, not following the guidelines in the instruction manual and usual wear and tear.

• The warranty does not cover any defects arising from the lack of frequent descaling of appliances, whatever type of water has been used (especially for steam irons, coffee machines and water boilers).
