This cordless electric kettle, designed by Michael Graves in 2001, is made of 18/10 stainless steel and thermoplastic resin. The product has been tested and approved to guarantee consumer safety.

WARNING!
- Read the instructions carefully before using the kettle.
Make sure your mains power supply is the same as the one indicated on the underneath of the kettle and/or on the power base. - Do not immerse the kettle, the power base or the electrical cable in water or any other liquid.
- Do not use the kettle in bathrooms or near other sources of water.
- Like any other domestic appliance, this product is not designed for outdoor use.
- Avoid touching the hot metal parts such as the body of the kettle and the lid. Use only the handle and the knob.
- Do not remove the lid while the kettle is on.
- Before pouring water, it is necessary to remove the bird-shaped cap. To avoid getting burned we advise you to use oven gloves and to pay attention to any escaping steam.
- Keep the kettle away from the edge of the worktop to prevent the risk of it falling off.
- Keep the kettle out of the reach of children.
Always unplug the kettle when not in use and before cleaning it. Allow the kettle to cool
down before cleaning.
- Before cleaning the kettle remove it from the power base.
- Do not move the kettle while it is working.
- Do not operate the kettle without the lid.
- Do not place the kettle, the power base or the electrical cable near to cooking hobs, gas rings or similar heat sources.
- Do not use the kettle if the kettle itself, the power cable or the plug are damaged. Contact the dealer for any necessary repairs or replacement.
- Do not use the kettle for any other purpose than heating water.
It is strongly inadvisable to make tea or any other drinks directly inside the kettle. - Do not put any utensils inside the kettle.
- Use the kettle exclusively with the base supplied.
- Do not use adapters or extension leads that do not comply with safety standards or that exceed the limits of the current rating.
- CAUTION: each kettle is tested during the production cycle; because of this any traces of wetness inside are to be considered normal and will not affect the proper working of the product.
- THIS PRODUCT IS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- CHILDREN SHOULD BE SUPERVISED TO ENSURE THAT THEY DO NOT PLAY WITH THE APPLIANCE.
Equipment description
A Kettle in stainless steel
B Bird anti-spray cap
CLid
D Lid knob
E Protective ring
F Anti-scale filter
G Power base
H ON/OFF switch

Before using the equipment
- Remove all the packaging from the kettle and from the power base.
- Remove the anti-scale filter using a long (but not pointed) object, pushing down through spout towards the inside of the kettle until the filter comes out of its housing (fig.2).

Fig. 2
- Wash the filter thoroughly.
- Fill the kettle and bring it to the boil (see the next paragraph: using the kettle). Repeat this operation twice to make sure the kettle is clean.
Install the filter: keeping the tab at the top pointing towards the inside of the kettle, first position the bottom edge and then push
towards the spout until the filter clicks into place (fig.3).

Fig. 3
Using the kettle
Power base
- The power base allows the kettle to be placed and used on it at any angle.
To extend the cable, turn the power base upside down and unroll the electrical cable from the cable holder. Pull out
the right amount of cable needed to reach the power socket, using the slots provided (fig.4).
- Do not allow the cable to hang from the worktop.

Fig. 4
Filling
- Remove the kettle from the power base before filling it.
- Remove the lid and fill the kettle up to the required level (fig. 5).
- Do not fill the kettle from the spout.
- Fill the kettle with only as much water as you intend to use: this
will reduce boiling time. Remember that less boiling time means less limescale building up.

- Fill the kettle with at least a cup of water
(minimum level) so that it will not boil dry; incorrect use such as this will greatly reduce its working life.
- Do not exceed the maximum capacity of 1.5 litres (the maximum level mark inside the kettle (fig. 6). Filling the kettle beyond the maximum level mark brings the risk of boiling water overflowing from the spout with the consequent danger of scalding.

Switching on
- Close the kettle and the spout with the lid and the bird antispray cap.
Make sure the lid is closed properly. - Plug the lead from the power base into the power socket.
The power base must ALWAYS be placed on a flat and stable surface. - Place the kettle on the power base. The kettle will work in any position.
- Flick the ON/OFF switch upwards to the ① position to turn the kettle on (fig. 7).

- The indicator lights on the bottom of the kettle will come on.
- The kettle will turn off automatically a few seconds after the water has reached boiling point (the ON/OFF switch will automatically revert to the ⑥ position and the indicator lights will go out).
The bird anti-spray cap makes no sound.
- To turn off the kettle before the water boils move the ON/OFF switch downwards to the ⑥ position or just lift the kettle off its power base (the equipment will turn off automatically and the switch will revert to the ⑨ position).
Pouring out
Before pouring out, remove the bird anti-spray cap from the spout.
- Lift the kettle off its power base
and pour out the water
CAREFULLY.
Do not tip the kettle up too much and avoid any abrupt movements.

Fig. 8
When lifting the kettle off its power base a few drops of water may be seen on the top surface of the power base. This is due to steam condensation which ensures the kettle turns off automatically once the water reaches boiling point. This phenomenon is quite normal and there is no cause for alarm.
- The bottom of the kettle does not reach an excessively high temperature during use and is thermally insulated: after pouring you can rest the kettle on any surface.
- Do not lift the lid until the kettle has cooled down. We recommend the lid be held as illustrated in figure 9.

SAFETY DEVICES
Automatic on/off
- The kettle has an ON/OFF switch (fig. 7) that turns the kettle off automatically when the water has boiled. To boil the water again it will be necessary to wait approx. 1 minute, after which the switch can be turned to the position again.
Safety cut-out
- If the kettle is switched on with not enough water in it or with no water at all, a safety cut-out switch will cut off the power supply to prevent any damage to the kettle. In this case, unplug the kettle from the power socket and leave it to cool before filling it again with cold water.
Maintenance
Cleaning the kettle
- Wait until the kettle has cooled down completely and unplug it before carrying out any cleaning operations.
- Do not immerse the kettle and/or the power base in water.
- Clean the outside of the kettle using a soft cloth dampened with normal household detergent and then rub it over with a soft dry cloth.
- Do not use polishing products or abrasive agents which could damage the metal and/or plastic parts.
After cleaning, make sure that the connectors and plugs are perfectly dry.
To clean the lid properly, unscrew the knob (D) and wash the items separately with a detergent under running water. Dry them carefully
and re-assemble as shown in the figure 1.
Limescale
- Limescale (calcium carbonate) is a harmless natural mineral found in water, which can build up to create a thin solid layer on the inner walls of the kettle, on the anti-scale filter and on the surface of the water. Descale the kettle regularly, using a mixture of water and vinegar, when any build up of limescale is found. After this operation, boil the kettle a few times, each time changing the water, in order to remove any residue of the mixture used which may alter the taste of the water.

WARNING!
Scale build-up will cause the element to overheat, reducing its working life. It may also cause the safety cutout to operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water actually boils.
Anti-scale filter
- The kettle is equipped with an anti-scale filter that stops any limescale present inside the kettle from being poured into drinks.
The filter can be removed and washed out. (fig. 2, fig. 3)
