Intended use This hair straightener is intended for straightening human hair only. Under no cir- cumstances is it to be used for wigs or hairpieces made of synthetic material. This appliance is intended exclusively for private use. Pay heed to all of the informa- tion in this operating manual, especially the safety instructions. This appliance is not intended for commercial applications. The appliance is not intended for any other purpose, nor for use beyond the scope described. , 50/60 Hz. ► Remove the plug from the mains power socket in event of operating malfunctions and before cleaning the appliance. ► To disconnect the power cable, always pull the plug from the socket; do not pull the power cable itself. ► Ensure that the power cable does not become wet or damp during use. Route the cable in such a way that it cannot be crushed or damaged. ► If the appliance, the power cable or the plug are damaged, arrange for them to be repaired by Customer Services to avoid the risk of injury. ► Do not use the appliance outdoors. ► Do not use extension cables – they will make it difficult to disconnect the appliance quickly in an emergency. ► Never touch the appliance, the power cable or the power plug with wet hands. ► Do not kink or crush the power cable, and route the cable so that it cannot be stepped on or tripped over. ► Do not wrap the power cable around the appliance, and protect it from being damaged. Under no circumstances should the appliance be submersed in liquids or liquids be allowed to penetrate the housing. Do not expose the appli- ance to humidity and do not use it outdoors. If any liquid enters the housing, disconnect the appliance from the mains power socket immediately and have it repaired by a quali- fied technician. ► Unplug the appliance immediately after use. Never use the appliance near water, and keep it away from sinks, baths and other similar containers. The proximity of water is hazardous, even if the appliance is switched off. Always disconnect the plug from the mains power socket after use. For additional protection, we recommend you install a residual current circuit-breaker with an activation power rating of no more than 30 mA for the power circuit in the bathroom. Ask your electrician for advice. WARNING! Disposal of the packaging The packaging protects the appliance from damage during transport. The pack- aging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal, and are therefore recyclable. Returning the packaging into the material cycle conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste generated. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. NOTE ► If possible, keep the original packaging during the warranty period so that the appliance can be properly packed for returning in the event of a warranty claim.  GB SHG 32 B1 Before straightening ■ The hair should be clean, dry and free of styling products. The only exception to this are special products which facilitate hair straightening. ■ Comb the hair thoroughly before straightening so that there are no knots in it. Automatic switch-off This appliance is fitted with an automatic switch-off system. After 30 minutes, the appliance will switch itself off automatically. After approx. 25 minutes the indicator lamp starts to flash, to remind you it is about to switch off automatically. If you want to continue using the appliance, switch it off for a moment and then back on again. NOTE ► The automatic switch-off is a safety function only and is not intended as a replacement for switching the appliance off properly using the on/off switch ! Operation Switching on/off NOTE ► The hotplates must be free of dirt. Clean them before use if required (see section "Cleaning"). The appliance is secured with the catch . Press the hotplates together and pull the catch out. Now you can open the hair straightener all the way.

1) Insert the plug into a mains power socket.

2) To switch the appliance on, slide the ON/OFF switch forwards (On). The

indicator light starts to flash red and the appliance starts to heat up. After about 1 minute, the hair straightener will have heated up and the indicator light lights up red.

3) When you have finished styling your hair, push the ON/OFF switch

backwards (Off). The indicator light goes out. Pull out the plug and allow the appliance to cool down completely.GB

1) Prepare the hair as described in “Before straightening”.

2) Start with the lower sections of hair at the back of your head. Work around

the sides to the front. Take a strand with a width of approximately 2cm and hold its end tightly between your index and middle finger of the hand that is not holding the hair straightener. WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► Ensure that the hotplates do not touch your scalp. Risk of burns! During operation, touch the appliance only on the handles. Risk of burns!

3) Clamp the strand near the root between the hotplates and press them

4) Pull the entire strand through the hotplates by pulling the hair straightener

quickly downwards from the root to the tips.

5) Proceed in the same way for every strand.

6) Once you have straightened all the strands, switch the appliance off and pull

the power plug from the mains power socket.

7) Allow the appliance to cool down completely.

8) Press the hotplates together and push the catch back in.■ 28

RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK

► Always remove the plug from the mains power socket before cleaning the appliance. ► UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you immerse the appliance in water or other liquids during cleaning! WARNING – RISK OF INJURY! ► Allow the appliance to cool sufficiently before cleaning it. CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use any aggressive cleaning liquids or solvents. They could damage the surface.

1) Wipe the housing and the hotplates with a damp cloth.

2) For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Wipe off any detergent

residue using a cloth moistened with clean water only.

3) Allow the appliance to dry fully before using it again.

Storage ■ Place the appliance on a heat-resistant surface to cool down. ■ You can hang the appliance up by the hanger . If you do not intend using the appliance for long periods, ■ clean the appliance as described in the section “Cleaning”. ■ Store the appliance in a clean and dry location.GB 

 29 ■ SHG 32 B1 Troubleshooting Problem Cause Solution The appliance is not working. The plug is not in- serted into a mains power socket. Plug in the appliance. The mains power socket is defective. Try a different wall socket. The appliance is defective. Contact the Customer Service department. The hair does not straighten. The appliance is not yet heated up. Wait until the appliance has heated up. The hair is singed. The hair was between the hot- plates for too long. Always pull the hair straightener through the hair. Never stay in one place on the hair for any length of time. Disposal of the appliance Never dispose of the appliance in your normal domestic waste. This product is subject to the provisions of European Directive 2012/19/EU. Dispose of the appliance via an approved waste disposal company or your municipal waste disposal facility.  GB SHG 32 B1 Warranty This appliance is provided with a 3-year warranty valid from the date of purchase. This appliance has been manufactured with care and inspected meticulously prior to delivery. Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase. In the event of a warranty claim, please contact your Customer Service unit by telephone. This is the only way to guarantee free return of your goods. NOTE ► The warranty is valid only for material or manufacturing faults, not for transport damage, parts subject to wear or damage to fragile parts, e.g. switches. This appliance is intended solely for private use and not for commercial purposes. The warranty shall be deemed void in cases of misuse or improper handling, use of force and modifications/repairs which have not been carried out by one of our authorised Service centres. Your statutory rights are not restricted by this warranty. The warranty period is not prolonged by repairs effected under the warranty. This also applies to replaced and repaired components. Any damage and defects present at the time of purchase must be reported im- mediately after unpacking, but no later than two days after the date of purchase.
