  • Do not use this blanket with an infant, an infirm person or anyone insensitive to heat. For human use only, not for pets.
  • Young children should be supervised to ensure

that they do not play with the appliance.

Overlong application at the high setting can result in skin burns.
- Do not tuck in.
- Do not use rucked or folded.
- Keep the control unit away from an open window.

Heat Controller

The CARMEN heat controller with braille markings, allows you to pre-heat the bed and then select the comfort level you need.

Detachable Controller

For convenience, this model is fitted with a detachable controller so that during the summer months of the year, you can simply remove the cords and leave the electric blanket on as an underlay.

Washable

All blankets in the range can be spot washed so you can clean up any localised soiling. However, for more thorough cleaning, there are a range of products that are "fully hands washable" once the heat controls are removed. This blanket is also machine washable. Please see further for further instructions.

Fitted Design

The fitted blanket features a elastic skirt which holds the electric blanket firmly in position and is designed to fit varying mattress depths.

Automatic Overheat Protection

Electric Blanks are fitted with our Overheat Safeguard system. This offers protection against overheating or damage to the element by disengaging the power to the heating element before any overheat hazards occur.

How To Secure Your Electric Blanket

Please follow the instructions below for the type of electric blanket you have purchased. As the blanket you may have purchased may be a split size, it is quite safe to use for example a Double/Queen blanket on a double sized bed as long as the heating elements do not extend over the edge of the mattress.

Note: if using a matrass protector, this goes over the electric blanket.

Fitted electric blankets

  1. Place blanket on mattress with the mains lead at the pillow end. Ensure the controller emerges from the top side of the blanket and that the heating elements do not emerge under the pillow area.
  2. Gently pull the elastic string until the electric blanket fits snug around the mattress base. Spread out the skirt to ensure the blanket is flat and evenly light. (Fig. 1.)

Connecting the Controls

when the blanket is securely attached to the mattress, connect the controls by inserting the connector plug into the sockets. Ensure the plug is firmly inserted then connect the plug to the power point and switch on. The flexible cord and switch must be kept outside the bed and away from open windows or exposure to moisture.

Using Your CARMEN Electric Blanket

On First Fitting Your Electric Blanket

As most beds and bedding absorb moisture, your electric blanket has to drive out this moisture before being able to operate to its fullest potential. Therefore, on the first day of use, it is recommended you switch your electric blanket on the highest setting for 3-4 hours before going to bed. You may notice a slight odour due to the blanket's newness, which is completely harmless and will quickly disappear.

Heat Controller

The CARMEN heat controller comes with an easily adjustable temperature slide switch, braille markings, and a power indicator light with a heat setting display.

For maximum comfort the CARMEN Heat controller offers the following settings:

1 = Low Heat (Suitable for all night use)
2 = Medium Heat
3 High Heat (ideal for preheating the bed)

Normal Day to Day Operation

It is recommended that the cord switch is set on Setting '3' for 1 to 2 hours before going to bed and then can be turned down to Setting '2' or '1' or off altogether depending on your own requirements whilst in bed.

Watchdog Safety Timer

Should you forget to turn your blanket off after you get out of bed, the digital controller has a 6 hour safety timer. This means the blanket will automatically switch off 6 hours after the last adjustment was made to the controller.

Important

Check daily that your blanket is flat, fully spread out and secured before switching on.

FAILURE TO OBSERVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL CAUSE OVERHEATING. THIS WILL ACTIVATE OUR OVERHEAT SAFEGUARD SYSTEM, THUS LEAVING THE BLANKET INOPERATIVE, VOIDING ALL WARRANTY.

Note: No user serviceable parts inside. Unauthorized modification voids warranty. Return to place of purchase for replacement or service under warranty.

> Cleaning and maintenance

Electric Blankets feature waterproof heating elements, rendering them suitable for localised cleaning at the least. Some models feature detachable controllers which makes them safe to be fully hand washable. It is not recommended that you wash your electric blanket in a washing machine as this process may harm your blanket, effecting its ability to operate efficiently.

Below, are two recommended methods for washing your electric blanket. Please ensure the blanket is turned off and disconnected from the power outlet before cleaning commences.

Spot Cleaning

The area affected should be sponged gently using a natural OR NEUTRAL wood detergent or mild soap flakes in lukewarm water, followed by two spongings with clean lukewarm water. Lightly compress the treated area between two towels to absorb excess water. The connections to the blanket should be kept free of moisture as much as possible.

Hand Washing

Please ensure all controls are unplugged from the electric blanket before cleaning.

Place your blanket in lukewarm water mixed with either a natural wool detergent or with mild soap flakes. Soak your blanket for five minutes, then gently squeeze the soapy water through the blanket. Then with clean, lukewarm water, rinse your blanket thoroughly, draining all excess water from the blanket. Do not wring dry.

Note: Always disconnect the plug and controller before washing. Remove the controller from the blanket before washing. Never expose the controller to any moisture or any liquids.

Machine Washing

  1. Remove the detachable controller, never expose the controller to any moisture or water.
  2. Presoak the blanket for 20 minutes in mild soap and lukewarm water.
  3. Wash in mild soap and lukewarm water on the "delicate" or "gentile" cycle in the washer for two minutes. Remember, do not use bleach.
  4. Rinse in fresh, lukewarm water.
  5. Spin dry in the washing machine. Then gently stretch to its original size.

Important Note: Do not use tumble dryers to dry the Electric Blanket, as they become too hot and will damage the wiring of the Electric Blanket.

Drying

There are two options for drying the electric blanket.
1. By spreading the blanket out all at (e.g., on a table) to dry in a shady area.
2. The blanket can be dried on a clothes line provided the blanket is not creased or folded and provided you do not use pegs on the wired areas.

Note: Before using again, make sure that the blanket and control sockets are completely dry.

Storing Your Blanket

When you are not using your blanket for long periods of time you have two storage options.

  1. Your blanket can stay on the bed permanently and be used as an underlay. Just remove the controls and store in a safe, dry place.
  2. Or alternatively, if you decide to take the blanket off your bed when not in use, loosely fold or roll up the blanket to avoid creating sharp creases in the blanket. Place your blanket in a suitable storage bag and then store in a position where no other objects will be placed upon it.
