How to assemble the ST 38 E vacuum cleaner?

Unpack the appliance. Connect the hose end into the opening on top until it clicks. Assemble the tube onto the hose handle. Attach the combined nozzle or accessory to the other end of the tube.

How to adjust the suction power?

Power is adjusted electronically via the button on the appliance, and manually via the slider on the hose handle. Use low power for curtains and delicate surfaces, and maximum for carpets.

When and how to change the dust bag?

Change the bag when the full indicator turns red. Unplug the appliance, open the cover, remove the bag holder, discard the old bag, slide a new paper bag onto the holder by its cardboard sleeve, then put it back.

How to clean the motor filter?

The motor filter should be cleaned approximately every 3 months. Open the dust compartment, remove the filter, wash it with water and detergent, rinse it, and let it dry completely before replacing it.

How to clean the air filter?

The air filter is located under the grille on top. Unplug the appliance, open the grille, remove the filter, wash it with water and detergent, rinse, dry completely, then replace and close the grille. Clean approximately every 3 months.

What to do if suction decreases?

First check if the bag is full (red indicator) or if the tube/hose is blocked. If the indicator turns red for no reason, lift the brush from the surface; if it stays red, change the bag. Otherwise, check the filters and clean them if necessary.

Can I vacuum liquids with this vacuum?

No, never vacuum liquids. The vacuum is designed only for dry dust. Vacuuming liquids can damage the appliance and pose a danger.

How to rewind the power cord?

After use, turn off and unplug the appliance. Press the cord rewind button to automatically wind the cord.

What to do in case of blockage of the tube or hose?

First turn off and unplug the appliance. Detach the hose and tube, remove the obstruction. Never block the suction duct during operation.

How to store the vacuum and its accessories?

Place the appliance in an upright position. The combined nozzle can be attached under the appliance for storage or at the back during use. Store accessories in a dry place.

Please read these instructions carefully before using the appliance.

Important: People (including children) who are not able to use the appliance in a safe way, due to their physical, sensorial or mental capacity or their lack of experience or knowledge, must never use the appliance except if they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or if they previously received instructions concerning the safe use of the appliance.

Close supervision is necessary to prevent children from using the appliance as a toy.

☐ Check that your mains voltage corresponds to that stated on the appliance.
☐ Never leave the appliance unsupervised when in use.
From time to time check the cord for damages. Never use the appliance if cord or appliance shows any signs of damage. Should the cord be damaged, it must be replaced by a competent qualified electrician ^1 . All repairs should be made by a competent qualified electrician ^2 .
☐ Only use the appliance for domestic purposes and in the way indicated in these instructions.
□ Never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid for any reason whatsoever.
☐ Never use the appliance near hot surfaces.
Before cleaning, always unplug the appliance from the power supply.
☐ Never use the appliance outside and always place it in a dry environment.
☐ Never use accessories which are not recommended by the producer. They could constitute a danger to the user and risk to damage the appliance.
☐ Never move the appliance by pulling the cord. Make sure the cord cannot get caught in any way. Do not wind the cord around the appliance and do not bend it.
Before plugging in the cord, make sure the switch is set to the off position.
☐ Unplug the appliance when not in use or when changing the bag or air filter.
☐ This appliance is not a toy, it is not supposed to be sat on.
☐ Never use the appliance to vacuum matches, pointed objects, cigarettes, butts or other glowing things. Do not use it on wet surfaces or surfaces covered with cement or other substances that are too fine or even toxic when inhaled. Never vacuum any kind of liquid with this appliance.
Do not try to repair the winding-on spool yourself. Make sure it is repaired by a competent qualified electrician ^[1] .
☐ Do not block the vacuum passage. If this should happen by accident, unplug the appliance before unblocking it.
☐ Make sure not to point the vacuum cleaner at persons or animals, and especially stay clear of eyes and ears.
☐ If you use the appliance with a damaged dust bag or air filter the appliance might get damaged. Make sure to check the good quality and placement of the dust bag and/or filter.
☐ If your appliance no longer vacuums correctly or if the dust bag full indicator becomes red, change the bag or empty the compartment (model with filter) before the appliance overheats.

ASSEMBLING THE VACUUM CLEANER

• Always remove the plug from the power socket before fitting or removing accessories!
- Insert the hose connector into hose connection inlet until it locks (fig. 1). To remove the hose, press the sides of the hose connector and pull at the hose.
- When removing hose assembly, pull out hose connection wand with pushing down two connection buttons.
• Fit the tube to the handle (Fig. 2).
• Fit the tube to the floor brush (Fig. 3).
- Removing telescopic tube and accessories: to remove the accessories, pull firmly apart.
• The floor brush is ideal for the daily cleaning of carpets and hard floors.

OPERATIONS

• Pull out a sufficient length of power cord and insert the plug into the power socket. A yellow mark on the power cable shows the ideal cable length. Do not extend the cable beyond the red mark. Switch on the appliance by pressing the ON/OFF switch with your foot.
• It is advisable to set the electronic power regulator to MIN before switching on the appliance. By turning the regulator button, the suction power can be adjusted. You can also adjust the suction power by using the wind-force adjuster on the handle. Use a low suction power for furniture and other delicate surfaces and use high suction power for fitted carpet and other floors.
• With the supplied accessory you can clean surfaces that are hard to reach, such as furniture (use the crevice tool) and delicate surfaces such as curtains (use the small brush). This accessory can be mounted on the handle or on the tube.

AFTER USE

• Stop the vacuum cleaner by pressing the ON/OFF switch.
• Unplug the appliance from the power supply.
  • Simply press the cable rewind button to activate the cable rewind mechanism.

REPLACING THE DUST BAG AND CLEANING THE FILTERS

Filters

The filter system consists of: 1 motor filter (in front of the motor in the dust compartment) 1 air filter, to vacuum the smallest particles (under the protection grid on top of the appliance)

It is necessary to clean the filters regularly to avoid operating problems.

Paper dust bag (Fig. 4)

• The dust bag level indicator indicates when the dust bag should be replaced.
- The hose might get blocked by a larger object. In this case the dust bag level indicator will be red. However this does not mean that you have to replace the dust bag. Just remove the object, which blocks your tube or flexible hose, and your appliance will function properly again. Do not forget to unplug the appliance before removing the blocking object. Replace the dust bag when the dust bag level indicator is completely red.
- Switch off the appliance.
- Disconnect the hose.

• Open the dust compartment.
  • Take the dust bag holder out of the appliance by pulling at the locking strip.
• Remove the dust bag from its holder and throw it in the dustbin.
• Put a new dust bag by sliding it along the holder's grooves.
• Put the holder with new dust bag back in the appliance.
• Close the dust compartment by slightly pressing on the front cover.
• Connect the hose again to the appliance.

Motor filter

The motor filter is situated in front of the motor. To clean it (approximately every 3 months), unplug the appliance, open the dust compartment and remove the filter to wash it in soapsuds and rinse it. When it is completely dry, put it back in the appliance.

Air Filter

• This air filter (situated under the protection grid on top of the appliance) guarantees fresh air during cleaning. It should be replaced approximately every 3 months (depending on the operation frequency)
• To clean it, unplug the appliance, open the protection grid, remove the filter, clean it in soapsuds and rinse it. When it is dry, put it back and close back the protection grid.

NOTE: After a certain number of cleanings the filters will be damaged or impossible to get back in their initial shape. In such case you will have to replace them.

PRACTICAL HINTS

• When cleaning stairs, we advise you to keep the unit in a vertical position.
• The floor brush is equipped with a hook, allowing you to attach the tube either underneath the appliance for storing it, or to the rear part of the appliance when it is in use, for instance when you want to move piece of furniture.
• The vacuum cleaner requires no other regular maintenance other than the filter cleaning and bag replacement tasks as detailed here above.
• If you notice a loss of suction power, it is probably due to one or a combination of the following events: blocked filter, full or punctured bag or blockage in tubes. If your appliance still does not work properly after you have checked those problems, please ask a qualified electrician for advice.

In order to get new dust bags or filters, please contact the shop where you bought your vacuum cleaner, or contact our customer service.
