Location - Place your freezer away from sources of heat (heating, cooking, sunlight, etc). For your freezer to work properly, the ambient temperature of the room must be between +16°C and +32°C (class N). Outside these limits, the freezer will not function normally. - Make sure there is a good circulation of air behind the freezer; do not place it flat against a wall in order to prevent vibration noise. Make sure that air is circulating freely all round the freezer. Insufficient ventilation will stop your freezer working properly and increase energy consumption. - This freezer should be installed so the plug remains accessible. Make sure after installing it that it is not resting on the power cable. - Level the freezer using the 2 adjustable feet. - The freezer is delivered with 2 plastic spacers so it can be positioned at the necessary distance from a wall. This will allow optimal performance of your product. Place the spacers in the holes at the back at the top and turn them 45° to the right or left. There must be a 20mm gap between the side of the freezer and the adjacent cabinet.
Connection to power supply Your freezer is designed to operate at a single phase voltage of 230 vo lts. It must be connected to a wall socket that is earthed and protected by a 16 A fuse.
Safety information relating to freezers If you use this freezer in accordance with the instructions, it will operate correctly. - Only use the freezer to store frozen food products, freeze fresh food products and make ice. - Do not consume ice cubes or ice lollies straight after taking them out of the freezer because they may cause cold burns. - Do not store full bottles of liquid in the freezer because they might explode.
Getting your freezer ready Once the appliance is properly installed, we advise you to clean the inside with slightly soapy warm water (washing-up detergent). Using your freezer Household freezers are only designed to store frozen food products, freeze fresh food products and make ice. The quantity of food to be frozen must not exceed the quantity indicated on the rating label which is positioned on the wall behind the bottom basket. If the quantity to be frozen exceeds this value, it is always possible to freeze in several batches. Food safety Due to the increasing consumption of prepared meals and other delicate foods, better control of the transport and storage temperature of foods is required:
- Limit the number of times you open the door.
- Adjust the therm ostat to obtain a lower temperature. This adjustment should be done gradually so it does not cause food to thaw.
- Defrost and clean the inside of the freezer regularly.
Adjusting the temperature The inside temperature is adjusted by the thermostat controlled by the knob on the control panel once the door is opened. The "MAX" position (MAXIMUM) corresponds to the coldest temperature The "MIN" (MINIMUM) corresponds to the warmest temperature. The temperature obtained inside the appliance may vary according to conditions of use: location, ambient temperature, frequency of door opening, quantity of food inside, etc. The setting can be changed taking these conditions into account. In general, an acceptable temperature can be obtained with a "MED" (MEDIUM) settin g; for colder or warmer temperatures, adjust the thermostat knob accordingly. To switch off the appliance for defrosting without unplugging it, turn the thermostat knob to the left to the "OFF" position. You will hear a click. This does not disconnect the freezer from the mains supply completely, to do this you must remove the mains plug from the wall socket “Rapid freeze” function If you want to freeze more than 3-4 kg of fresh food products in one go, you have to cool the freezer in advance. At least 24 hours before putting the fresh food products in, press the rapid freeze button on the control panel. The yellow indicator light will illuminate. After 24 hours place all your fresh food products in the freezer. Leave it in rapid freeze mode for at least 24hours after putting the fresh food products in the freezer A After 24 hours press the rapid freeze button again and the yellow indicator light will go off. The rapid freeze function can be deactivated at any time by pressing the button.
FREEZING FOOD Package food in appropriate food grade containers to prevent exchanges of bacteria between food. Wait for dishes to cool before putting them in the freezer. Freezing fresh products ♦ Only freeze top quality products after cleaning them and preparing them if necessary. ♦ Leave cooked dishes to cool at room temperature before putting them in the freezer. ♦ All products to be frozen should be packaged in plastic bags, special aluminium trays for the freezer or plastic containers. This packaging must be sealed. ♦ The size of each package should be in proportion with family consumption so it is used up in one go. Freezing is quicker and more uniform with smaller packages. ♦ Do not freeze a quantity of product in one go that exceeds the freezing capacity of the appliance indicated on the rating label which is positioned on the wall behind the bottom basket.Downloaded from www.vandenborre.be
♦ Food to be frozen is not to be placed in direct contact with food in storage and if appropriate that it could be necessary to reduce the quantity to be frozen if freezing every day is anticipated. ♦ To reduce the risk of poor performance ensure all baskets are used at all times. ♦ A frozen product must never be refrozen. ♦ Do not put bottles or cans of fizzy drinks in the freezer; they might explode. ♦ Do not consume ice lollies as soon as they come out of freezer to avoid cold burn. To freeze fresh products: Press the rapid freeze button and the yellow indicator light will illuminate. Do not open the door of the freezer while freezing. After 24 hours press the rapid freeze b utton again and the yellow indicator light will go off. Keeping frozen products ♦ Frozen products can be grouped together leaving spaces between them for better freezing. ♦ When you buy a frozen product, make sure the packaging is intact, that there are no signs of damp and that it isn’t bulging, which would be a sign it has started to defrost. ♦ The recommended storage time indicated by the food product manufacturer must not be exceeded. ♦ Avoid opening the door too frequently and only leave it open for the necessary time. An increase in temperature can reduce the storage time of food.
Making ice cubes Pour water into the ice cube tray until it is two thirds full, then place it into the freezer between the two freezer packs which are positioned above the top basket. Ice cubes will form in 2 to 3 hours. The ice cubes can be easily removed by twisting the ice tray whilst pouring cold water over the back of the ice tray. There are two freezer packs supplied, these are positioned above the top basket and should remain in this position incase of any power failures, this will help to keep the temperature in the freezer for a longer period of time. In the event of a power cut, if the freezer is off for less than 20 hours, there is no risk to frozen foods. However, do not open the door (the time it takes for the temperature to be restored can be significantly reduced if the freezer is not very full). As soon as you notice food is starting to defrost, it must be consumed as soon as possible. Never refreeze food that has been defrosted.Downloaded from www.vandenborre.be
Defrosting your freezer The formation of frost inside your freezer cannot be avoided. Fr ost forms when the humidity contained in the air comes in contact with the cold surfaces of the freezer. This is why the door should only be opened when necessary. A thin layer of frost does not harm the operation of the freezer and can be removed with a plastic or wooden scraper. When the layer of frost gets to a thickness of about ten millimetres, complete defrosting is necessary. We recommend doing this when the freezer is not very full. ♦ Before defrosting, if the freezer is not empty, press the rapid freeze button to ensure the food is kept at a very low temperature. ♦ Unplug the freezer ♦ Take out the frozen food and keep them in a cool place wrapped in several sheets of newspaper or better still in cool bags or bubble plastic check the frozen food regular ly to ensure it has not defrosted. If is has defrosted it must be either eaten or cooked immediately and then refrozen. ♦ Leave the door open. ♦ You can use the spout supplied to help you empty the defrosting water into a bowl. ♦ You can speed up defrosting by getting rid of the some of the frost with a plastic or wooden scraper and putting containers full of hot water (max 60°) inside. Do not use any sharp objects to scrape off the ice or heated electrical appliances (hair dryers, heaters). The freezer might be irreparably damaged. ♦ After melting the ice, carefully wipe and dry the freezer. ♦ Plug it back in press the rapid freeze button and wait for an hour or two before refilling the freezer. CLEANING Before cleaning, unplug the freezer from the mains supply. Never use abrasive products or scouring pads to clean the inside or outside of your freezer.
- Remove all accessories. Wash them in warm water with a gentle scentless detergent (product for washing up for example), rinse with clean water and dry carefully.
- Wash the inner walls in the same way; pay particular attention to the shelf supports
- Wash the door seal, not forgetting to also clean under the seal.
- Plug the freezer back into the mains supply. Clean the freezer whenever you defrost it. From time to time, dust the condenser at the back of the freezer; as an accumulation of dust might reduce the performance of the freezer. In the case of prolonged absence, empty and clean the freezer; keep the door open while it is not being used.Downloaded from www.vandenborre.be
You can change the direction of opening of the door of your freezer by moving the hinges. When reassembling, make sure the door is well aligned with the body of the freezer and that the seal adheres correctly. We remind you that the freezer must be unplugged when changing the direction of opening of the door.
