How to connect the Philips SPE2000 external hard drive to my computer?
Connect the USB cable to the hard drive and then to a free USB port on the computer. The Philips External Hard Disk drive icon appears in Windows Explorer. The blue light turns on. If necessary, restart the computer. Use the extra USB power cable if the computer does not provide enough power.
What to do if my computer does not recognize the hard drive?
Some computers have insufficient bus power. Use the supplied USB power cable by plugging it into another USB port on the computer. If the problem persists, check the drivers or contact Philips support.
How to safely disconnect the hard drive?
Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar. Select the hard drive, click Stop, then OK. Wait for the message Safe to Remove Hardware before disconnecting.
Can I use this hard drive with a Mac?
Yes, but you must format the hard drive to FAT32 as it is pre-formatted as NTFS for Windows. Use the Mac Disk Utility to reformat it.
How to password protect my files?
Use the Carry it Easy software by CoSoSys located on the hard drive. Double-click CarryitEasy.exe and follow the on-screen instructions. The detailed manual is in the 'Manuals' folder.
Where to find warranty information?
Browse the Philips warranty folder on the hard drive or visit www.philips.com/welcome. The warranty does not cover accidental damage.

Connect the USB cable to the hard disk, and to an empty USB port of the computer.

A drive icon, Philips External Hard Disk, appears in Windows Explorer and the blue light should light up. (The computer sometimes needs to be restarted, before you can use the new hardware).

When Windows does not recognize the hard disk (some PCs or laptops provide insufficient bus power on one USB port), plug the additional USB power cable (D) into an empty USB port of your computer.

How to safely disconnect?

I Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray in the lower right part of the screen.

2 In the window that appears, select the name of the device that is to be removed, then click the Stop button.

3 When the Stop a hardware device screen appears, check that the correct information is displayed, and then click the OK button.

4 When the message Safe to remove hardware appears, remove the drive from the computer's USB port.

How to use the software

The CoSoSys Carry it Easy software allows you to password protect your files. To launch the software, double-click on the CarryitEasy.exe file on the hard disk icon in your Windows explorer. Follow the instructions on your screen to get started.

How to install for Mac

The hard disk is preconfigured for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, with a NTFS file system. For Mac, the hard disk needs to be formatted to FAT32.

Browse to the Philips warranty folder on the hard disk or look on www.philips.com/welcome

You need Adobe Reader software to open these files.

If you don't have Adobe Reader, you can download it for free on www.adobe.com.
