The Technivorm Moccamaster Coffeemaker's advanced brewing technique has earned certifications from the Specialty Coffee Associations of America and Europe (SCAA & SCAE) as well as the European Coffee Brewing Center (ECBC) Seal of Approval.

The ECBC approved seal is only awarded to products that have passed the extensive quality control and laboratory testing of the Norwegian Coffee Association. Technivorm Moccamaster is the only manufacturer with ECBC approval for all its household machines.

Only coffee brewers that make “the perfect cup,” in compliance with the association’s strict standards and regulations, are approved.

WHEN USING ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES, BASIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:

- READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.

- Check to see if the voltage of the machine matches your main voltage. The machine must be plugged into a socket with safety ground.

- Place the machine on a flat surface in a frost-free room.

- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.

- Do not place cord, plugs, or brewer in water or other liquids.

- This machine is not fit for use by people (including children) with physical, mental or sensory disabilities, or a lack of knowledge or experience, unless supervised or instructed regarding the use of this machine by a person who is responsible for their safety.

- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.

- Do not operate brewer with a damaged cord or plug or if the brewer malfunctions or is damaged in any way. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.

- Using an accessory not recommended by the manufacturer may cause injury or fire.

- Do not use outdoors.

- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surface.

- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.

- To disconnect, turn power control to "off" position, then remove plug from wall outlet.

- Do not use appliance for any purpose other than its intended use.

- Do not remove brew-basket or carafe while brewing.

- Do not pour any liquids other than water or recommended cleaning product into water reservoir.

• Always place the lid and mug in the correct position as shown in the descriptive image. Scalding may occur if any of these parts are removed during brewing cycles.

- Unwrap the coffee maker with care and remove all packaging materials. Keep packaging (plastic bags and cardboard) out of reach of children.

- WARNING: Do not remove bottom panel of brewer; doing so will void warranty. No user serviceable parts inside. Repair must be done by authorized personnel only.

BEFORE USE

Before using your new coffee brewer for the first time, or if the machine has not been used for some time, we recommend first rinsing the water receptacle. Fill the coffee brewer with cold water and operate twice without any coffee.

POWER SUPPLY CORD

The short power supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord must be at least as great as the rating of the coffee brewer. The extension cord must be a grounding type 3 cord. The extension cord should be arranged so it doesn't drape over the counter or table top where it can be pulled over by children or tripped over.

ENVIRONMENTAL RECOMMENDATIONS

• Please discard the filter and coffee grounds by disposing of them in an organic waste container or compost heap. If not available, you may dispose of filters and grounds in normal household waste.
• For environmental concerns, please recycle responsibly. Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste, but hand it in at an official collecting point for recycling. By doing this, you help preserve the environment.

FEATURES

Brew-basket

• The brew-basket is specially designed for making one 10 oz. cup of coffee with a contact time according to SCAA, SCAE & ECBC standard.
• Attention: Make sure the brew-basket is clean and the tiny hole at the bottom of the brew-basket is not blocked, to prevent the brew-basket from overflowing. Note: Use the provided small brush to clean the tiny hole in the bottom of the brew-basket.
  • Use only No.1 filter paper in the brew-basket.

Removable cup-holder

• Place the cup-holder over the black caps on the base, directly under the brew-basket.
  • Make sure the cup-holder lays horizontal and stable on the base and is placed over the caps.
• Cup-holder is optional, larger based cups may be used without cup-holder

Rotatable Outlet-arm

• Rotate the outlet-arm for easy access the brew-basket.
  CAUTION: The outlet pipe will be hot directly after brewing.

Auto-shut-off system

• The coffee brewer is switched off automatically after the water is transferred to the brew-basket.
• Note: Please allow time for the coffee to flow from the brew-basket into the cup before removal

Moccamaster porcelain cup (optional)

• Stylish and practical cups with silicone grip.
- Dishwasher safe.

1. Power switch should be in the off position.

2. Position outlet-arm as shown in the image.

3. Attach securely to the silicon gasket at top of the cold water reservoir.

4. Remove outlet-arm only for cleaning purposes.

5. Push the outlet-arm sideways for easy access to the brew-basket.

6. Fill cold water reservoir to the marked level (10oz), with fresh cold water.

7. Check the tiny hole in the brew-basket for any obstructions, as this will result in overflowing of the brew-basket.

- Place a standard N° 1 paper filter into the brew-basket.

1. Add the appropriate amount of coffee.

- The approved standard for a 10 oz. cup (water up to the level indicated on the water reservoir) is 2 level scoops (4 Tbsp.) of filter ground coffee.

1. Place the brew-basket on the bracket, position outlet-arm in the center of the brew-basket.

- CAUTION: Scalding may occur if any of these parts are removed during brew cycle.

2. Place the cup-holder over the caps on the base, directly under brew-basket as shown in the image (page 5).

3. Place a cup (with a capacity of at least 10 oz.) on the cup holder.
4. NOTE: if a larger based cup is desired, cup-holder may be removed.

5. We recommend rinsing the cup with hot water to prevent loss of temperature.

6. Switch the power switch to the "on" position; light will illuminate.

7. The brew process will begin quickly; water will boil, rising through the brewer across the outlet-arm and into the brew-basket. Brew process is complete in about 4 minutes.

8. We recommend disposing of coffee grounds once brew cycle is complete and rinsing the brew-basket to prevent clogging.

- Note: Use the provided small brush to clean the tiny hole in the bottom of the brew-basket.

1. The brewer switches off automatically after transferring the water from the water reservoir to the brew-basket.

- Note: Please allow some time for the coffee to flow from the brew-basket into the cup before removal.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Basic Cleaning

• Before cleaning, remove plug from the socket!
• Clean the brewer regularly on the outside with a moist cloth and wipe dry. After each use, hand wash the brew-basket with mild detergent.
• Use a small brush to clean the tiny opening in the bottom of the brew-basket.
• Make sure coffee grounds aren't left in the brew-basket, as they might clog the tiny hole in the brew-basket.
• Note: Use the provided small brush to clean the tiny hole in the bottom of the brew-basket.
• Do not submerge brewer in any liquid
• Cleaning the brewer (inside).
  • The brewer needs to be cleaned regularly.
• If used daily it needs to be cleaned every two weeks.
  • We recommend Cleancaf® by Urnex®.
• Follow the instructions on the Cleancaf® bag / box.

Descaling Your Brewer

• Your coffee brewer must be descaled regularly to maintain optimal performance.
• When mineral deposits build up in the heating element of your Technivorm Moccamaster, it can clog the water flow and affect the brew temperature and saturation time. If not descaled regularly, the brewer can stop working.
• Technivorm Moccamaster recommends descaling your brewer every 80 cycles (easily remembered after every box of 80 count filters) or a minimum of every 3 months.
• We recommend the use of Dezcal™ by Urnex®, follow the instructions on the Dezcal™ package.

Anti-Frost Protection and Extended Storage Guidelines.

• Turn the brewer off and remove the electrical plug from outlet.
• Remove outlet-arm, pull it carefully out of the silicon gasket.
• Empty any remaining water within brewer by holding it upside down over the sink.
• Replace the outlet-arm before using the brewer again,
• insert smoothly in the silicon gasket at top of the cold water reservoir.

Why is my brewer not heating to 200°F?

The Technivorm Moccamaster coffeemakers operate on the scientific principle of bringing water to a boil. It is this boiling action that causes the transfer of water to the brew-basket. The brewer is designed to move the proper amount of water (10 oz.) in the correct amount of time (approx. 4 minutes). This is the correct water contact time needed for the proper extraction.

What is the total brewing time for my Technivorm?

The complete brewing cycle should take about 4 minutes. However, if the coffee brewer is not descaled regularly, the scale/lime buildup could result in a slower brew time or simply cease functioning – the light will be on, but the water transfer will not function until descaled with a product like Dezcal™ by Urnex®.

Why doesn't the Technivorm have a timer?

A great cup of coffee starts with cool, fresh, filtered or bottled water and freshly ground or pre-ground packaged coffee to achieve the perfect cup. When water is left in the water reservoir overnight, it is depleted of oxygen, which is essential to brewing a perfect cup of coffee.

Note: Technivorm Moccamaster is fast; it only takes about 40 seconds to start the brew process, with completion in approx. 4 minutes.

Does the brewer automatically "shut off" after a set period?

Yes, the brewer turns off automatically after the water is transferred.

Note: Please allow time for the coffee to flow from the brew-basket into the cup before removal.

Why does this brewer have so many removable parts?

Parts that come in contact with coffee have been designed to be removable for cleaning and replacement purposes. Clean equipment is critical to brewing good coffee.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

The following table provides solutions for problems you may encounter as you use your Technivorm Moccamaster. If you do not find a solution to your specific problem, or the problem persists after trouble shooting, please contact your retailer or Technivorm Moccamaster Customer Service at 1.855.662.2200.

	Incorrect grind of coffee	Please use standard filter grind coffee.

* NOTE: Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the brew-basket can occur under any, or a combination of any, of the following conditions: the use of too finely ground coffee, using two or more paper filters or not properly cleaning oils or grounds from the brew-basket, or allowing coffee grounds to spill over the filter.

Keep this booklet for future reference. Record the model and date code before using (located on the bottom of your brewer). SAVE YOUR RECEIPT AS PROOF OF PURCHASE.

5-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

This Technivorm Moccamaster, except carafe, is warranted by Technivorm Moccamaster USA to be free from defects in materials and workmanship existing at the time of manufacture and appearing within one of the following warranty periods:

Five (5) years from the date of original purchase of a NEW BREWER.

One (1) year from the date of purchase of a REFURBISHED BREWER.

If brewer is proved defective upon inspection by Technivorm-Moccamaster USA, it will be repaired or replaced, at Technivorm-Moccamaster USA option, without charge to customer. If replacement product is provided, it will assume the remaining warranty of the original product as described above. This Warranty does not apply to any defects arising from a buyer or user's misuse of the product, negligence, lack of descaling, failure to follow Technivorm's instructions, negligent handling, modification, alteration or service unauthorized by Technivorm-Moccamaster USA.

If you choose to have someone other than an authorized service center service your brewer, THIS WARRANTY WILL AUTOMATICALLY BECOME NULL AND VOID. Any liability is expressly limited to an amount equal to the purchase price paid and all claims for special, incidental or consequential damage are hereby excluded.

Unless otherwise specified, Technivorm-Moccamaster USA makes no other warranty of any kind, expressed or implied as to the merchantability or fitness of any product for particular purpose. Technivorm-Moccamaster USA expressly disclaims all warranties and conditions not stated in the limited warranty. Technivorm-Moccamaster USA is not liable for any claim made by a third party or made by you for a third party; the Technivorm warranty extends only to the original purchaser and is not transferable to anyone who obtains ownership of the product from the original purchaser at any time.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other legal rights which vary from state to state. Some states do not allow the limitation or exclusion of incidental or consequential damages so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
