How to use the coffee maker for the first time?

Before first use, run water without coffee to clean the internal circuitry. Then rinse the carafe and filter holder. Fill the reservoir with cold water, place a paper filter, add coffee, position the carafe and turn on the appliance.

What type of filter to use?

Use a size 101 paper filter. Place it in the swivel filter holder before adding ground coffee.

How many scoops of coffee for a full carafe?

For a full carafe of water, use 2 to 3 full scoops of coffee for a medium-strength brew.

How to clean the coffee maker?

First unplug the appliance. Rinse the carafe and filter with clean water (do not put them in the dishwasher). Clean the exterior with a damp cloth.

How often to descale the coffee maker?

Descale once a month, or twice if the water is very hard (hardness level above 20°). Use a commercial descaling product following the instructions.

How to descale?

Let the appliance cool down. Fill the reservoir with cold water, add the descaling agent. Place a paper filter and the carafe. Run 2 cups, turn off and let it sit for 30 minutes. Turn on again to finish the cycle, then rinse 3 times with clean water, letting it cool for 1-2 minutes between each rinse.

Why is the coffee lukewarm or the carafe very hot?

The stainless steel carafe is not a thermos: it keeps coffee warm via the hot plate. The outer wall becomes very hot. Only touch the handle.

What to do if the appliance makes abnormal noises or brewing takes longer?

This indicates a need for descaling. Follow the descaling procedure described in the manual. Excessive scaling may damage the appliance and void the warranty.

Can I use the coffee maker without the carafe?

No, the carafe is essential for the anti-drip system. Never operate the appliance without the carafe, as hot coffee could overflow.

What to do in case of malfunction or damaged cord?

PRINCESS TIPS

• Do not yank on any cord to disconnect.
• Never plug appliance in where water floods the area.
• Place the appliance on a firm and stable surface.
• Ensure that the appliance is not placed so close to the edge of the table, worktop, etc. that it may be knocked off. Remember it is filled with hot water.
• The hotplate can get extremely hot: be careful and keep children away.
• Never immerse the appliance in water or in any other liquid.
• Do not use the appliance if it is damaged or if the cord is damaged. Send it back to our service department. A damaged cord can only be replaced by our service department, as special tools are needed for this.
• Do not use any abrasive or scouring cleaning agents.

BEFORE USE

Check whether the mains voltage in your home corresponds to that of the appliance. Use only an earthed socket for this appliance.

The coffee machine has a stainless steel pot and can be used to make up to 6 cups of coffee. It has a handy swivel filter with drip shield and an on-off switch with a pilot lamp.

Place the PRINCESS CLASSIC COFFEEMAKER on a stable, firm table or worktop so that the appliance cannot be easily knocked over.

USING THE COFFEE MACHINE

Before using for the first time, fill the PRINCESS CLASSIC COFFEEMAKER with water and no coffee and switch on to clean the inside of the appliance. Rinse the can and the filter holder.

Fill the reservoir with cold water, rotate the filter outwards (grip the right underside and pull it towards you) and place a filter bag (size 101) with ground coffee in the filter holder. Place the can on the hotplate and switch on the coffee machine. Use 2 to 3 full measures of coffee for a full can of water. This will make the coffee average strength.

ATTENTION: After making coffee, allow the machine to cool down for at least five minutes before making a new pot.

KEEPING THE COFFEE HOT

As long as the PRINCESS CLASSIC COFFEEMAKER is switched on, the coffee will be kept hot. The stainless steel can does not have an insulating function but is kept at the right temperature by the hotplate. This means that the outside of the can will get hot, so it should not be touched when the coffee machine is switched on.

CLEANING

FIRST UNPLUG THE APPLIANCE

Rinse the coffee can and the filter holder. These parts are not dishwasher-safe. The outside can be wiped with a damp cloth.

DESCALING

The coffee machine will have a longer life if it is regularly descaled. This should be done once a month, or even twice a month in regions with very hard water. Hard water is considered to be water with a hardness of more than 20^e DH, which is a measuring scale for water hardness. Your water company will be able to tell you how hard your water is. The appliance should also be descaled immediately if:

• It makes bubbling noises;
• Making coffee takes longer than normal;
  • Water remains in the reservoir after making coffee.

Almost all available descaling agents can be used to descale the machine. The applications for which an agent is intended are stated on the packaging. Exceptions are sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid, which should never be used for descaling purposes.

The following procedure should be taken:

• Let the appliance cool down properly.
• Fill the reservoir with cold water.
• Add a descaling agent to the water in the ratio indicated on the packaging.
• Put a paper filter in the filter holder. Do not forget to place the can under the filter.
• Switch on the appliance.
• After approximately 2 cups of water have passed through the appliance, turn it off and leave for half an hour to allow the descaling agent to work.
• Turn the appliance on again. When all the water with descaling agent has passed through, run clean water through the appliance three times to remove all traces of the descaling agent.

N.B.: Allow the machine to cool down for about three minutes after each rinse-through. The guarantee will be invalid if the appliance is damaged by lime scale.

U.K. WIRING INSTRUCTIONS

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: BLUE=NEUTRAL, BROWN=LIVE, GREEN-YELLOW=EARTH

As the colours of the wire in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals on your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

THE GREEN-YELLOW WIRE should be connected to the earth terminal of a three pin plug marked with the letter E or ± or coloured green and yellow.

With this appliance, if a 13 amp plug is used a 13 amp fuse should be fitted.
