This device complies with the applicable safety regulations. However, improper use can lead to personal injury or material damage.

Danger due to electrical current

HAMA BC100 - Danger due to electrical current - 1

DANGER

Danger of death due to electrical current!

Coming into contact with live electrical lines or components can be fatal.

Adhere to the following safety instructions to avoid dangers associated with electrical current:

▶ Only use the included power supply adapter, as the device may be damaged otherwise.
▶ Do not operate the device when the power supply adapter, connection cable or plug is damaged.
▶ Do not open the housing of the power supply adapter under any circumstances. There is a risk of electric shock when coming into contact with live connections or if the electronic or mechanical layout of the device is altered.
▶ Keep the device away from moisture, possible liquid penetration and dusty environments. Disconnect the power supply adapter immediately if the device comes into contact with liquids.
▶ Disconnect the power supply adapter before cleaning and in the event of malfunctions.
▶ Keep cables away from hot surfaces or other sources of danger, and do not jam or crush them.

Handling the batteries

HAMA BC100 - Handling the batteries - 1

WARNING

Danger may result from the improper use of batteries.

▶ Only use batteries of the same type.
When inserting the batteries, ensure that the polarity is correct. Reverse polarity can result in damage to both the batteries and the device.
▶ Never throw batteries into a fire, as they may explode.
The battery poles must not be connected together (whether accidentally or intentionally) or come into contact with metallic objects. This can result in overheating, explosion or fire.
▶ Keep batteries out of the reach of children. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
▶ Leaking battery acid can cause permanent damage to the device. Exercise extreme caution when handling damaged or leaking batteries. Danger of chemical burns! Wear protective gloves.
▶ Remove the batteries if the device is not used for an extended period.
▶ Do not use empty batteries and full batteries together.

GB

Basic safety instructions

Observe the following safety instructions to ensure safe handling of the device:

■ The device should only be assembled by adults. Keep small parts out of reach of children during assembly.
■ Do not let children play with parts of the device or the device itself. Ensure that the baby monitor units, power supply adapter and connection cable are always kept out of reach of babies.
■ Never cover the device (e.g. with a towel or blanket).
■ Faulty components may be replaced with original spare parts only. Only original spare parts can guarantee that applicable safety requirements are adhered to.

Design and functionality

Basic design

The "Baby-Control" is comprised of one parent unit and one baby unit, which communicate with each other over a wireless connection. This device provides you with sensor-controlled acoustical monitoring of babies and persons who need to be monitored.

The data recorded by the microphone on the baby unit are transmitted to the parent unit, where it can be heard over the loudspeaker. The parent unit is also equipped with four LEDs to indicate the volume.

NOTE

▶ The baby monitor is only intended as a support aid, and is not a substitute for responsible and proper care by an adult.

Getting started

Safety instructions

WARNING

Personal injury and material damage may occur when using the device for the first time.

Observe the following safety instructions to avoid these dangers.

▶ Packaging materials may not be used as toys. Risk of suffocation!

GB

Included components and delivery inspection

The device is delivered with the following components as standard:

  • Baby unit
  • Parent unit
    • Power supply adapter (2x)
    • Table mount for baby unit
    • Swivelling base for parent unit
  • Fastening clip for parent unit
  • Operating instructions

NOTE

▶ Check the delivery for completeness and visible damage. Inform your supplier in the event of incomplete or damaged deliveries.

Disposing of packaging materials

HAMA BC100 - Disposing of packaging materials - 1

The packaging protects the device from damage during transportation. The packaging materials have been selected according to environmental and disposal factors, and can therefore be recycled.

Recycling packaging saves raw materials and reduces the volume of waste. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed according to locally applicable regulations.

NOTE

▶ When possible, retain the original packaging during the warranty period in order to pack the device properly in the event of warranty claims.

Positioning requirements

The device must be positioned according to the following requirements in order to ensure safe and error-free operation:

■ The socket must be easily accessible in order to disconnect the power cable in an emergency.
■ The device must be positioned in a dry location.
■ The units must be positioned on a level, horizontal surface.
■ The parent unit and baby unit must be kept at least 1 metre apart.
■ The distance between the baby unit and the object to be monitored (e.g. baby) must be at least one metre (due to radiation).
- Do not place the "BC-100" in the immediate vicinity of computers, electric ovens, microwaves, cordless telephones or fluorescent lamps. This can disturb and distort the audio signals.

NOTE

▶ If the signal is weak, move the transmitter/receiver to another location or change the frequency.
▶ You can only change the frequency if the alternate frequency is not blocked by another transmitter.
▶ To improve the transmitting power, we recommend that both the transmitter and the receiver should always be placed in an upright position.

Electrical connection

The devices are provided by the included power supply adapter or alkaline batteries/rechargeable batteries (not included).

Inserting the batteries

HAMA BC100 - Inserting the batteries - 1

natural_image Line drawing of a mechanical device with arrows indicating motion or force (no text or symbols)

◆ Push the battery cover in the direction indicated
◆ Insert four alkaline batteries/rechargeable batteries

Connecting the power supply adapter

- First, plug the connection cable into the socket on the device. Then plug the power supply adapter into a power outlet.

NOTE

Use the enclosed power supply adapter only.

The rechargeable batteries in the parent unit automatically begin to charge when the power supply adapter is attached. During the charging process, the charge symbol flashes as shown in "LED display" (see page 10).

NOTE

▶ The duration of the charging process depends on the type of rechargeable battery being used and its storage capacity.

Operation

Baby unit

◆ Place the transmitter in the room to be monitored.
To switch the unit on, set the operation selection switch on the right side of the device to "MIC LOW" or "MIC HI" for low/high microphone sensitivity.
◆ Move the channel selection switch to "CH1" or "CH2" to define the channel to be used.

NOTE

▶ Make sure that the microphone on the front of the transmitter is not covered.
▶ The transmitter is sensor-activated and only transmits when the noise level is high enough.

Parent unit

◆ To switch the unit on, turn the combination ON/OFF switch clockwise.
◆ Use the ON/OFF switch to adjust the volume.
◆ Move the channel selection switch to the same position that you selected for the baby unit.
◆ For practical purposes, you can use the clip to attach the parent unit to your belt (or other convenient location)

Energy-saving options

In addition to the steps that have been taken by the manufacturer to reduce power consumption, you can further reduce power consumption by using the device wisely.

■ Remove the power supply adapter from the mains supply/power outlet when the device is not in use.
■ After completely charging rechargeable batteries, promptly remove the power supply adapter from the mains/power outlet in order to prevent the power supply adapter from entering stand-by operation.
In order to keep transmissions to an absolute minimum, set the operation selection switch on the baby unit to "MIC HI", if possible
■ Whenever possible, only charge the rechargeable batteries when they are completely empty. This helps to prevent them from experiencing a premature drop in power output, which can cause them to have to be recharged more often.

Precautions against radiation

To date, scientific studies on the potential health risks caused by high-frequency and low-frequency electromagnetic fields have not proven a distinct causal relationship. However, some studies have shown indications of possible health risks. As a measure of precaution, you should use all available technical options to keep exposure to high-frequency and low-frequency fields to a minimum – especially with babies and infants, who are particularly sensitive.

■ Position the device at least one metre away from the child's bed.
■ In particular, make sure to place the power supply unit as far away from the child as possible.
