What is the Medisana LSC light shower used for?

The device is designed for light therapy and works against seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as 'winter blues'. It helps compensate for the lack of light in autumn and winter, reducing symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, and lack of energy.

What is the ideal distance between me and the device during a session?

The recommended distance is between 20 and 60 cm from the luminous screen. The closer you are, the shorter the usage time should be: about 30 minutes at 20 cm, 1 hour at 40 cm, and 2 hours at 60 cm.

How long can I use the device per day?

The maximum usage time is 2 hours per day. The best time is between 6 am and 8 pm. For optimal results, use it for at least five consecutive days.

Can I do other things during a light therapy session?

Yes, you can read, watch TV, or work on a computer, as long as you stay within 60 cm of the screen. It is not necessary to look directly at the screen continuously.

How to clean the LSC light shower?

Before cleaning, turn off the device and unplug it. Let it cool completely. Use a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with a mild soap solution, then wring it well. Never immerse the device in water and do not use harsh products.

When should the fluorescent tubes be replaced?

The tubes have a lifespan of about 8,000 hours. If a tube is defective, it must be replaced. Entrust this operation to an authorized professional, as the device must be disassembled. Always replace both tubes at the same time, with tubes of the same type (PHILIPS PL-L36W/865/4P).

Are there any contraindications for using this device?

Consult your doctor before use if you suffer or have suffered from major depression, if you are hypersensitive to light, if you have an eye disease, if you are taking certain medications (psychotropics, antimalarials), or if you have high blood pressure.

Can I use the device if I wear contact lenses?

Does the device get hot?

What is the warranty for the Medisana LSC device?

Medisana provides a warranty of 3 years from the date of purchase (upon presentation of proof of purchase). Excluded from the warranty are damages due to incorrect use, unauthorized interventions, transport damage, and normal wear and tear (such as fluorescent tubes).

— take certain drugs, for example psychotropic or antimalarial drugs
— suffer from high blood pressure

Safety Information

about the power supply

• Before connecting the device to your power supply, please ensure that the supply voltage stated on the rating plate is compatible with your mains supply.
• Do not use the appliance if it is damaged, if its power cord or plug is damaged, if it is not in perfect working order, or if it has been dropped or fallen into water.
• If you notice any damage, dispose of the appliance or have it repaired by an authorised service centre. Do not attempt to repair the device yourself in the event of a malfunction since this will invalidate the warranty.
• Only insert the plug into a power socket when the appliance is switched off.
• Do not touch the mains plug if you are standing in water and only ever touch the plug when your hands are dry.
• If the device falls into water, do not try to pick it up. Instead pull the plug out immediately.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the device is complete and is not damaged in any way. If in doubt, do not use it. Send it to a service point.

The following parts are included:

• 1 MEDISANA LSC phototherapy unit
• 2 Instruction manuals

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required.

If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please contact your dealer without delay.

WARNING

Please ensure that the polythene packing is kept away from the reach of children! Risk of suffocation!

2.2 Special features of the LSC phototherapy unit

Many people suffer from symptoms of tiredness in winter due to the lack of sunlight.

The LSC phototherapy unit provides a light bath to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as the "winter blues".

It is an appropriate and effective method of compensating for the lack of sunlight in the autumn and winter without resorting to drugs.

Possible applications

The appliance is used to counteract the following symptoms of winter depression:

• Fatigue
• Mood swings
• Listlessness
• Sleepiness
• Lack of concentration
• Lack of appetite

Time, frequency and duration of use

The most effective time of day to use the phototherapy unit is between 6 in the morning and 8 in the evening. You can use the unit for up to 2 hours daily.

You can use the phototherapy unit as often as you like. However, the treatment is most effective if you use it on at least five successive days.

The length of time you can use the LSC phototherapy unit depends on how far you are away from it:

3 Operating

3.1

Usage

1. Fold down the stand ④ which can be found on the back of the device and place the device on a stable, level surface (e.g. a table). and place the appliance on a stable, level surface (such as a table).

2. Connect the power plug ② to a socket and switch on the appliance using the ON/OFF button ⑧.

3. Sit at a distance of 20 - 60 cm from the fluorescent screen ① in front of the unit so that the light easily reaches you. You do not have to sit facing the unit.

4. The duration of the treatment depends on how far you are sitting from the unit (see "2.2 Special features of the LSC phototherapy unit").

5. You can take a break or stop at any time. As long as you do not move more than 60 cm away from the unit, you can do other things during the treatment, such as read or watch television.

6. Do not look directly at the fluorescent screen 1 for any length of time when it is switched on. It is enough to regularly turn your face towards it.

7. Always switch off the appliance using the ON/OFF button ⑧ and unplug it from the socket when it is not in use.

8. Let the appliance cool down for at least 15 minutes before putting it away or touching it.

NOTE

To carry the device more easily, use the grip recess in the upper section of the rear side.

3.2 Changing the fluorescent lamps

On average, the fluorescent lamps need to be changed after approximately 8000 hours' use. If a lamp fails, it must be replaced.

In order to change a fluorescent lamp, the appliance must be completely disassembled. Have the lamps changed by your specialist dealer, an authorised service centre or a qualified specialist to prevent damage to the appliance.

WARNING

• Used fluorescent lamps must be disposed of in accordance with the applicable regulations on environmentally harmful waste. If you have any questions about disposal, contact your local authority or your dealer.
• Before changing the fluorescent lamps, the device must always be switched off using the ON/OFF switch ⑧ and the power plug ⑤ must be disconnected from the mains socket. Beware of electric shock.
• Be careful when handling fluorescent lamps – they can easily break.
• Always replace fluorescent lamps with lamps of the same type. Always replace both lamps at the same time.

4 Miscellaneous

4.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the appliance, switch it off using the ON/OFF button ⑧ and pull the power plug ⑤ out of the socket. Risk of electric shock!
• Let the appliance cool down completely before cleaning it.
• Do not immerse the device in water or other fluids.
• When cleaning the device, never use aggressive cleaning agents, scouring agents or solvents; neither should you use scouring pads, steel wool or tough brushes. This can damage the surfaces.
• Clean the appliance using a soft, lint-free cloth, if necessary dampened with mild, warm soapy water and well wrung out. Do not allow water to penetrate the appliance.
• Only use the appliance again after cleaning once it is completely dry.
• Do not expose the unit to direct sunlightor high temperature; protect it against dust and moisture.
• Keep the appliance in a safe, dry place, preferably in the original packaging.

Disposal

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.

3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.

4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear (fluorescent lamps etc.).

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
