Frequently Asked Questions - K-50 PENTAX

How to charge the lithium-ion battery D-LI109?
Use the included D-BC109 charger. Connect the power cord to the charger and then to the power outlet. Insert the battery with the mark facing upward until it clicks. The indicator lights up during charging and turns off when charging is complete (approx. 240 minutes). Do not use the charger for other types of batteries.
How to insert an SD memory card into the K-50?
Make sure the camera is turned off. Open the card slot cover on the right side. Insert the card fully, label facing the screen, until it clicks into place. Close the cover. To remove the card, push it slightly to release. Never remove the card while the access indicator is lit.
How to activate Shake Reduction stabilization?
In the [Capture Mode] menu, set [Shake Reduction] to [ON]. You can also activate it via the settings screen (INFO button). The stabilization icon appears on the screen. For videos, enable [Movie SR] in the [Video] menu. Stabilization corrects camera shake during shooting.
What types of lenses can I use with the K-50?
You can use DA, DA L, D FA, FA J lenses as well as lenses with an A position on the aperture ring (set to A). Lenses without an A position or from other brands may have limitations. Refer to the 'Functions Available with Different Lens Combinations' section of the manual for details.
How to clean the CMOS sensor?
Use the built-in cleaning function: in the [Preferences] menu, select [Sensor Cleaning]. The camera shakes the sensor to remove dust. If cleaning is insufficient, you can use a manual blower (never compressed air). For deeper cleaning, contact PENTAX service center.
How to set the date and time?
When first turning on the camera, the [Initial Settings] screen appears. Use the navigation buttons to select the language, hometown city, then set the date and time in [Date Setting]. You can also change these settings later in the [Preferences 1] menu > [Date and Time].
* Date format (dd/mm/yy, mm/dd/yy, or yy/mm/dd) and 12h/24h format are adjustable.
How to use the built-in flash?
Press the [Flash Pop-up] button to raise the flash. In Auto mode, the flash fires automatically when needed. You can choose the flash mode (Auto, Fill-in, Slow sync, Red-eye reduction, etc.) via the navigation button (right) in shooting mode. To close the flash, push it down gently.
How to record a video?
Set the mode dial to [Video] (camera icon). Press the [Live View] button to display the screen. Press the shutter button to start recording, and again to stop. You can change video settings (resolution, frame rate, etc.) in the [Video] menu.
* Use a high-speed SD memory card to avoid interruptions.
How to transfer photos to a computer?
Connect the camera to the computer using the included I-USB7 USB cable. Turn on the camera. The default USB connection mode is [MSC] (Mass Storage). The computer recognizes the camera as a drive. Copy files directly. To use the included software (SILKYPIX Developer Studio), install it from the CD-ROM.
How to reset the camera settings?
In the [Preferences 1] menu, select [Reset]. Choose [Reset Settings] to return to factory defaults. This resets shooting, playback, and custom settings. Date/time and language settings are retained. Confirm by pressing OK.
